  1. ck, Sorry to hear of your problems. I know where you're coming from -- my EX wife was a skinny little thing that never understood what being overweight was like. All I can offer is my sympathy (and the number of my lawyer )
  2. So, I can't wear my slacks anymore. They're all falling off and being held up by the belt (with 3 extra holes punched in it). I decided to go get a few pair of pants before I embarrassed myself. I was surprised to discover that Casual Male XL only goes down to 40-42. I've just about worked myself out of the store! Happy days...
  3. About 30 days. Things just worked out
  4. So, I had my first fill Tuesday. I must say that I don't feel anything different. Just as before I can eat just about anything without problems. I'm being good, but my issue has always been portion control/boredom eating and not hunger problems. Should I go back in and get a floro-enhanced fill? I really need/want that restrictor plate effect.
  5. If it's really that big a deal to you, you can always have it removed after you hit your target weight. Surely you can't be disqualified for something that isn't there.
  6. Turns out after further discussion, the swimming thing is completely optional. Hurrah! Definitely going now
  7. Interesting. I pulled up my benefits to see whether everything had been taken care of regarding my surgery. The surgeon I use charges $14,500 all-in for self-pay patients. The amount charged to the insurance company was $32,630.03 Quite the difference! The plan eventually ended up paying $19,138.67. Just random observations this Wed morning
  8. Back from my first fill! 3.8 cc in a VG band. I don't know if there's really a lot of restriction, will know in a few days. I don't do needles well, so I couldn't watch Doc put it in. Strangest sensation was when he pulled the needle back out. I'm sure you all know this though. He said that he can "feel" the restriction in the way the saline is going in, and I guess he knows what he's doing because he hit it almost dead on the first time. 4 cc stopped the water cold, 3.6 let it through no problem, and the 3.8 he settled on was what he first eyeballed it at. Dude's good.
  9. Good luck bigsexy. ======= Back from my first fill! 3.8 cc in a VG band. I don't know if there's really a lot of restriction, will know in a few days. Doc wants me to lose 6 lbs a month -- I want more than that! I don't do needles well, so I couldn't watch Doc put it in. Strangest sensation was when he pulled the needle back out. Hey guys -- some input would be appreciated. I've been invited to a pool party being thrown by a coworker. I've recently been hanging with these folks at happy hours, and enjoy it, but I don't think I'm ready to show up in a swimsuit. I also don't want to just blow them off, as I'm just now starting to be social again and would hate to shut down that channel by accident. Should I just plead "prior engagement," or should I suck it up and go along, ghost white beer belly and scars proudly slumping over a new swimsuit?

I could tell some tales in that "intimacy" thread, but suffice it to say that I was tired of being a walking wallet and housemate. I will miss the dogs. Onto the single front -- not really a "dating" question, but some input would be appreciated. I've been invited to a pool party being thrown by a coworker. 11. What mask are you using? The trick is stabilizing the mask relative to your face/nose. I use a Breeze: Puritan Bennett | Product | Inquiry and the strap system it has isn't sufficient to keep it in place. My sleep doc added a velcoized "wrap" that crosses under the chin, over the ears and across the top of the head. Once that was added the movement problem was resolved.
  12. I'm not going to try to edit the prior post, as the editor on this board converts every space to a smiley -- annoying, that. I will add that there are still a lot of guys tied into the "breadwinner" mentality. Add to that the inherent competitiveness of males, and the "money's a way of keeping score" meme, and you end up with guys who are suddenly feeling a bit small in the wallet when they meet a successful woman. No guy likes feeling small
  13. My misunderstanding then, soonersis. Thanks for the clarification. Where I grew up, one was living large if the house didn't have axles and a hitch!
  14. Hmmm. I don't see where "I don't like crazy cat ladies" and "I don't like golddiggers" is equivalent to "no independent women." Can you enlighten me? I can see that the world has changed in the last 13 years. -->me, off to read this WHOLE thread and see where the minefields are
  15. I suppose I'm officially a single bandster now. 18 months after I filed for divorce, the ex finally finished moving all her stuff out this past weekend. Hurrah! The nice thing about a slo-mo divorce is that there's no real emotional stuff to get over at the end of it. I will miss my dogs though Now I just need to figure out where the 30something year olds are that aren't crazy cat ladies and don't want sugardaddies for their ex's kids. Ha!
  16. Y'all are going to hate me My insurance covered it (United Health Care). I thought there was an exclusion, but I asked HR and they said that the insurance covered bariatric surgery through the end of 2007 and it was going to be dropped in 2008. I routinely go to the doc every 6 months or so for a checkup, and so I already had the 5 years of weight history and the co-morbidities documented. (For those who are curious -- sleep apnea, high cholesterol numbers and something called "metabolic syndrome".) Gave my insurance info to the specialist, they cranked it through, and I quite literally had the surgery about a month after asking HR about coverage. Sometimes, things just go right
  17. Well, it's obvious I'm not going to get the 40 miles, but so be it. First fill this coming Tuesday Weight it still pretty stable, but I had what the ladies call a "non-scale victory." In March I had just moved up to a 48 waist. Today, I fit in some of my old 42 inch jeans. Hurrah!
  18. As a followup to my airport scanner issue earlier this week, I passed through Indy International today with no problem. Perhaps DFW is more sensitive? I'm scheduled for my first fill on the 26th, looking forward to it.
  19. As a followup to the airport security comment earlier, this morning I passed through Indy International (hah!) airport. No issues with the port setting it off this time. Maybe the DFW scanner was more sensitive? I added lots of miles this weekend to my exercise total. I was at the USGP and it was a LONG walk from the parking lot to our seats
  20. Just something interesting. I flew yesterday, and the port set off the metal detector. I had to have a personal visit from the special screener, and that hand wand was beeping every time it crossed the port scar. So, either the ports DO set off the scanners, despite what the doc said, or they left a screwdriver in me

  22. So, first week in June is done (1st-8th). I haven't been getting in the time on the elliptical like I wanted, but doing OK on the weight loss front. 1st -- 255 8th -- 249 15th -- TBD 22nd -- TBD 29th -- TBD
  23. Oops. I noticed I'm still on the June calendar. I jumped ahead to May 21. It's all good guys, LOTS less stressful than I thought it would be. Y'all will be fine.
  24. Works for me.
  25. Hiya. Newbie here, banded 5/21. Glad to see a guy's thread here. I won't have a fill by June and don't have much restriction now, but I'm up for a June challenge. I always focus better when it's a competition
