  1. @@gowalking - thanks! That's a relief that they can hold my cards and stuff. I thought so, but I can't call and ask questions today. For sleeve Dr. Ren said it's 1-2 nights stay, usually two. Since my time isn't until 4pm I am assuming probably 2 nights. They have to do a leak test before releasing people. You're right about using CC for taxi - I'm just not used to going anywhere without a little cash!
  2. Thanks ForGracieGirl! A backpack with a lock is such a great idea, but not sure I'll have time to find one today - but I will look! I think I'll just have to play it by ear and hope for the best - I'm sure it will work out.
  3. Hi all, My surgery is tomorrow - Yikes! Yay! My husband is disabled and won't be with me. My parents will come the day of, and stay until I'm out of surgery, but then a friend will be the one to pick me up when I'm released a day or two later. So I won't have one person to hold onto my things and I'm getting confused about what I need... - I've been told I need to pay my portion of the bill when I check in, so I need a credit card and ID I assume, but then I'm told not to have that with me (aargh); I'll also need money to get home - my friend is picking me up, but I'm in NYC - we'll be taking a taxi and I want to pay for it I'll be at NYU Langone.. anyone with a similar situation? Any advice? Did you not just bring your purse and a small bag with your things? iPad? I appreciate any advice - I thought I'd thought everything through, and now getting flustered trying to figure this out.
  4. Congrats on your weight loss, but vomiting almost every meal sounds terrible! I haven't heard about that with the sleeve. Definitely follow up with your surgeon. That isn't good for you.
  5. I think the window idea comes from research - patterns of how people usually lose after surgery. I will try to find an article I read online and post it here. My surgeon sent me an webcast to watch and it had this info included - that people lose weight fastest in the first 3 months, still lose at a good pace through 6 months, then weight loss slows and eventually stops at 12-18 months. That video also mentions that at 1 year most can eat about a lean cuisine sized meal, which is more than the 1/2 cup or so right after surgery. I'm taking the window seriously - people in the support groups I'm in (who are struggling to lose last few pounds or have regained some) have urged me to do so and I appreciate the advice.
  6. Thanks so much for sharing your story! It was a fun read, and very inspirational. So happy for you for all your successes.
  7. Wow - amazing success in such a short time - congrats! And thanks for sharing.
  8. 15 pounds in 5 days?! That's amazing! I'm going in a day before you - yes, so nervous as well - but also so excited! Tomorrow is my last day in the office - I will have a 3-day weekend to clean house and do all final preparations. Can't wait to be through the surgery and healing. See you on the other side! We will do great.
  9. There's no way that weight gain is fat! Probably just water. Keep monitoring and I'm sure you'll find the right balance. I hope to have a similar problem in 6 months!
  10. Wishing you a perfect surgery experience! Look forward to hearing your report when you're out and awake!
  11. How are all you June 16th-ers doing? I'm going back and forth between excited and scared. Can't wait for it to be over so I can start healing and adjusting to the changes.
  12. Hang in there! I'm pre op, but I see posts like these a lot and experienced peeps always chime in to say that it's normal and that the scale will move again. I'm on pre-op and went about 5 days with no change and had that same worry of will I never lose another pound even after surgery? But then I dropped a few more pounds in the following few days. Stay focused on the long term and you will get there!
  13. I'm about to get converted from band to sleeve because of nighttime choking issues with the band when it's tight. I've read a lot of posts about it and some people like you feel less restriction with the sleeve than they did with the band. I think you can make it work but you may need to readjust to a new way of understanding what full feels like. Most like the sleeve much better, but some miss the super tight restriction. The good thing is that once you're all healed my understanding is that you can eat pretty much anything with the sleeve, in small amounts of course. So veggies and healthy choices are easier to make.
  14. Hi all - I'm getting sleeved on the 16th too! Mostly excited, and a bit nervous too... I am lucky - my surgeon gave me permission to eat real food instead of liquids for pre op so it hasn't been too bad. I do still get hungry sometimes, but the high Protein really helps curb that. Good luck to us all!
  15. The diet I have for post-op allows purees starting after 2 weeks - anything that has no lumps, like baby food.
  16. Hi there - I'm the 16th! On pre-op diet and actually feeling pretty good! Have lost about 8 pounds in just over a week and wearing a pair of jeans today that haven't fit in about a year.
  17. I started this process in November hoping to do it in January but didn't get approval till Feb, at which point there were just too many work conflicts so I had to postpone till June which seemed like FOREVER away in Feb, but it has gone by pretty quickly and is now just over a week away! I had the same thoughts/struggles as you - should I diet? Should I quit sweets? I didn't decide to have food funerals, but I suppose I did have some, but I did lose a few pounds in that period. The time it gave me ample time to plan or success. I did a course on mindful eating which was great. I tried a million Protein shakes. I bought various things like books, thermos, small containers. etc. I read a ton on this site and elsewhere on pretty much all topics - keys to longterm success, possible complications, and so on. It will come sooner than you think! Hang in and use the time well.
  18. Wow! Congratulations - you look fantastic. I needed that inspiration today.
  19. Thinking of you both and wishing you the best today! Come back and let us know how you're doing when you're up for it!
  20. Would you be willing to share the key points you include in your prepared statement? I was just thinking today that I might just tell people at work and was starting to think about what I would say - but I didn't get too far... if I imagined what I would say to sort of proactively state my reasons for doing it, it ended up feeling too defensive...
  21. This has been a concern of mine as well. My husband is officially against it and has tried to talk me out of it a few times. What's been good is that we're both clear that it's my decision, but I've heard him out and listened to and responded to his concerns. He kept telling me that from his research he's seeing high rates of complications. I tell him that if he's got something from a valid source that he wants me to read I will gladly read it and consider it, but that the studies I've looked at show relatively low rates of complications and by comparison very high rates of reducing risk for obesity-related diseases. He has not come up with any studies for me to look at. At this point he accepts it and is supporting me. I wouldn't be shocked if he gives me one more talk before surgery day in a couple weeks, but we will get through it. I wish you the best in making the best decision for you - and hopefully doing it in partnership with your hubby.
  22. Yes - congrats to you both! Wishing you - and any other 6/3 sleevers - speedy recoveries!
  23. Sounds yum! I'm pre-op, but I love to eat steel cut oats now in a savory way - I saute greens (like kale or spinach) and layer that on top of some oats and then fry an egg or two to go on top. I just love it. I'll try your recipe when I'm post-op and on solids!
  24. Good question - I'm concerned about the same thing. I ordered a book on Amazon that I've seen recommended here - I think it's called 50 ways to soothe yourself without food. Haven't read it yet, but passing on that recommendation. I agree with JeanZ_RN that awareness is probably the most important thing - knowing that you are seeking comfort through food rather than really needing food physically. And then it's just a matter of finding things that work for you to help.
  25. @@BLAKQUEEN - I wish you the best on Monday! Let us know how you're doing when you can.
