RedDackel got a reaction from FluffyChix in Stomach leaksI am so sorry to read of the above respondents' leak complications. I had surgery on Wednesday and have had (getting better) horrible pain. I'm nervous, and am curious if if anyone knows what actually causes a leak, or what lends itself to the increased likelihood of getting one.
Again, so sorry for all your troubles. Wishing for health and healing for all of you.

RedDackel got a reaction from CapyCapybara in Had surgery on the 18thCapy,
I, too, had the nerve block. Holyschmoly, I was in PAIN! i can't imagine the surgery without it. At this point, 4 days put, I'm finally able to feel. better - thank goodness. I, too, have pain but in the stomach- if I drink too fast. My incisions have felt great though, so that's a bonus.
Good luck!

RedDackel reacted to JRT Mom in Had surgery on the 18thFor me it took about 6 days before everything stopped hurting, The gas pain was worst than the actual surgery. Try to move around as much as you can. Make sure you are drinking SLOWLY-spasms might be a sign of taking too big of sips. Did your doc give you any medicine for your heartburn? She should have. Hang in there, most of us have "buyers remorse" after our surgery. Once you feel better and the weight starts coming off you'll be happy you did this, It WILL get better!

RedDackel reacted to CapyCapybara in Had surgery on the 18thI had surgery on the 18th and I also signed up for a double nerve block. It was horrific the first day. I was in recovery for hours trying to get my pain down. The next day a little better. Day 3 and I feel like I could go run a marathon. Not really but still better. I thought I was pretty good with pain as I had a partial hysterectomy and was trick or treating THAT night. This surgery kicked me in the ass.
I’ve been fortunate not to have heartburn. I’m not even taking my heartburn meds. If I do sip something too fast or too big I do get tightening in my chest for a second.
Popsicles are amazing too... I made mine with protein water with extra scoop of plain protein. -
RedDackel reacted to Fatboyslim1 in Had surgery on the 18thI am of the belief that the pain many encounter is due to the pressure on the incisions, due to any gas left in the abdominal cavity. I have heard stories about people being bloated after, and passing a lot of gas, and those seem to be the same people that have pain.
For myself, I was not bloated (other than a lot of water from IV's) and I had no gas, and no pain. Took one Advil a day for 4 days starting the day after, and that was it.
Perhaps it's more a result of surgeon technique than anything else ?

RedDackel reacted to Krimsonbutterflies in Had surgery on the 18thDon't be discouraged by the early experience you are having. I'm praying for you to get better and pain free. Have you tried the sugar free Popsicles to aid in hydration yet? Try to meditate on healing & taking it moment by moment so you won't feel overwhelmed or frustrated. That isn't conducive to healing, I hope that you are complication free. Side note, I took Saxenda for awhile, it made me very nauseous and miserable. I so wanted to love it and be a success story, not so much for me.

RedDackel got a reaction from Jess199029 in Any Dec surgeries out there??All legit concerns and it comes with the territory. Surgery is scary and the permanency of this surgery adds to the anxiety. Know that you are doing this for your health and so that your daughter WILL have you around longer. Focusing on the health aspects eases my mind about the permanency - perhaps look to that if you are overcome. I'm betting by the time you see this, you will be recovering and a few days post-op! Best of luck! I go in for surgery tomorrow! We can commiserate our recovery together!
Best,
Red

RedDackel got a reaction from JessLess in *MOTIVATION*Oh, I love all your mantras, but the last one - I've always thought it to be so anti, so counter, so demeaning. It discounts the actual struggle people have. Of course a person's struggle matters; being time-constricted or having troubles prioritizing doesn't help. Urg! That one always gets me on a soapbox. Just had to say that! [emoji1] [emoji1]
Thanks for sharing, though! I might hang up a few of the other ones for myself!

RedDackel got a reaction from JessLess in *MOTIVATION*- Actually, not so much. My background is that I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist - there are very real and concerning messages this mantra sends. That said, if it works and motivates you, then great, Fluffy, but I'm more concerned with the message it sends to others.
- Confirmation Bias is not exactly as you described, but you're talking my world, so it's delightful to hear psychology being applied. Confirmation Bias is when you limit your intake of new information or limit that which would challenge a preconceived notion and the way we think about something. Your general definition is sorta right, but it wrong application.
Take care,

RedDackel got a reaction from Jess199029 in Any Dec surgeries out there??Jess, what has helped for me is not focusing on the scary parts, but reminding myself of the health gains - that if I stay this way, I am doing more damage to my health. Sometimes, there IS no real solution to the anxiety (other than valium before surgery) but trying to shift perspective can help.
I hear ya, though. Stay positive! Good luck.

RedDackel reacted to RickM in Is the pre op liquid diet for losing weight before the surgery? or is it for cleaning out the intestines and stomach before surgery?I have never found a good explanation of what the liquid pre-op diet actually does. Yes, clean out the stomach and intestines before surgery, but that only takes a day, or a few hours. Shrink/improve the liver condition - yes, sorta, but that doesn't take a liquid diet to do, just one that is low in carbohydrates. Annoy and/or punish the patient for being obese - most certainly! Make the post-op recovery and diet transitions more difficult - quite possibly.
Most aren't required to do a liquid diet pre-op, but rather some kind of hybrid with a light meat/veg meal or two and a protein drink or two per day, and many others aren't required to do anything special at all.

I never said they were ?♀️ all bone broth states an amount of protein....

They aren't a good source of protein, per the information on the packaging. I had one from a coworker, I guess unflavored protein powder can be added.
