I am 4 days post op and I was experiencing exactly what you said and only could keep water down... but it does get better.. I was given nausea meds before and after surgery but the gas made the nausea worse.. Just keep walking and keep the faith.. it is getting better everyday for me! Goodluck!

Hi everyone had my procedure this morning. These gas pains are serious and causing some serious nausea along with them. Tried walking a few times today and couldn’t make it too far until I started to get nauseous. Every time I take my small sips and even small bites of jello my the gas pains seem to return w/ a vengeance. In bed going to attempt to sleep for a bit now. Hope everyone is doing well

Hi guys, so I was sleeved on Tuesday afternoon and was sleeping all day after it. Even the walks in the hospital got me exhausted. Gas pain was no joke but waking, gas pain medications given to me and a breathing exercise machine helped a lot. I got discharged yesterday with 5 incisions in my stomach. Other than the gas pain I was mostly fine. I had to do a liquid challenge the day after surgery to be discharged home. NYU was amazing. My highest weight was 258. Before liquid diet I was 253 and the day of surgery I was 240. My liver was great and no complications. I’m 5’3 and 33 y/o. Hope all of you have a speedy recovery. I’m trying to get rid of all the gas but constipation does not help. Feel free to ask if you have a question. Good luck.

Hi, I was lucky not to have nauseas or vomiting at all. I was given medication for the nauseas pre surgery and to come home with. I keep my liquid down but I don’t drink more than a small zip at a time. Gas pain was difficult but is slowly gotten better since Tuesday. I haven’t have much appetite but I had broth and water lately. It takes for ever to finish it and still couldn’t. I mean like an hour ?. I got some sugar free jello since I have to be liquid for 3 days. After that they want me to start protein slowly if I feel up to it. I’m not hungry at all so definitely taking my chewable multi vitamins. Best of luck.

Gastric sleeve done yesterday (Tues, 12/10).
Things are going better than I expected. Not nauseated, but headache and very dizzy upon standing. The incisions don't bother me at all. Sipping liquids very slowly and have to keep sitting up straight. Otherwise I can feel a slight pain in there. My doctor's orders are clear liquids only for first week. My throat is sore and my lower lip kinda beat up. No pain meds necessary so far. Did have pretty bad gas pains right between and below my breasts. Everybody in the recovery room was burping gas. I finally did the same and it really helped. So far so good I guess.

I too reorganized, even repainted my closet. Bought some new clothes and have them sized down from my current to size 8. The clothes That are already to big for me I’ve washed tagged for a garage sale and put in my she-shed for a sale next year. Down 3 sizes started size 22 but can now wear a size 18. Whoop whoop. Excited and feeling great to have clothes that look nicer and LOOSER on me. I’ve been having my daughter take periodic pictures of me Thru this journey and can’t wait to see the very end result and the transformation she puts together for me with her film. I’ve already seen differences that amaze me. Sometimes you don’t realize how bad it was you came from til you see where you worked so hard to get. You realize you never want to go back to that bad place again.
Size 8 I’m coming for you?

I have the same doctor as Grommie and she is right. I had to do 10 days of pure liquid diet and no protein. It is hard but i am on day 8 now and i am not hungry at all and can handle watching my kids eat and even cook for them. That was the biggest challenge as I always would "test" the food before i would serve it. I have lost 20 lbs in the last 8 days.

I personally wouldn't take stimulants (appetite suppressants) prior to surgery. It could cause you to have cardiac or blood pressure issues and could make them cancel surgery on that date and increases your OR risks.
That's a sucky pre-op diet. I've never seen clear liquids on a pre-op diet for more than 2 days max and that's after following 10 days of a full liquid protein diet. So you aren't really hungry by that time and the 2 days of clears isn't any big deal.
    ((hugs)).

You can have crystal light, broth but no more than 2 grams of protein per serving, sugar free popsicles, nothing more than 10 calories per serving.

Hi, I am new to this site. I am 34 and starting weight was 281. I am scheduled for the sleeve on Dec 9th. My meal plan was 1 week 3 shakes/smoothies and a small meal and 1 week five shakes no meals.. The first few days were bad but not so bad anymore. Two days before surgery start all liquid diet! I have lost 6lbs during two week pre op diet so far. This site is so up-lifting. Thank you to all the previous post and good luck on your Journey. I look forward to reading everyone's stories.
