  1. I am wondering the maximum age to be banded. I have read on several web sites that there is no age limit. I have a friend that might be interested but she thinks she is too old. I would love for her and I to do this together. Anyone out there over 65? Please let me know your experience with any wls. Thanks so much. Brenda

  3. Good for you! Keep me posted on your progress! I am not going to make the end of April but I am not giving up.
  4. Yes I have considered Dr. Aceves. I am not going to make the end of April though. I am working on some medical issues with my doctor and of course it is taking longer than I thought. I do know that my insurance won't cover any wls so I am self pay for sure. With the doctor wanting me to have the lap band and I am leaning toward the sleeve, I am trying to keep an open mind for both. So I have been researching the band virus the sleeve. Anyway, I will get there. I need some tests done and the insurance company is dragging the approval out for those. Still working on it all. Thanks for your response. Brenda
  5. Barbarella, I am not sure but you can contact his office. The staff is great. I have been communicating with Nina and she is very helpful and responds in a timely manner to my inquires. Good luck with whatever you do! Brenda m
  6. I have concerns about any complications that might arise during surgery or post opt. as well as later. I have read on the boards that people's insurance have covered problems later from other WLS. I guess it all depends on your insurance. It's all a bit risky but I think we just have to weigh the pros and cons. Many many people have had no complications from the sleeve but there is not many years of data yet. Good luck with your surgery!
  7. You should be able to click on the advertisement on the right side of this page, Gastric Sleeve for $5200.00 and Lap Band for $4500.00. The web site is www.Jerusalemweightloss.com and their phone number is 866-310-4625. Good luck to you, Brenda
  8. Kabranda and Lookinupin2010, Thanks for the info. I go back and forth about the sleeve surgery. My doctor wants me to have the band. I just attended yet another seminar about the band (that made the 3rd one in the last few years) at my doctor's suggestion. I have seen quite a bit of success with the band, however the sleeve has it's advantages. I wanted to be open minded after my doctor's visit so I went to the seminar and now I am even more confused. So I am still researching and in the meantime, I am eating more sensibly and being more active. Thanks to all who share on here, I sure appreciate everyone's input.
  9. I have read that some people, especially men need salt. One guy said that he was feeling really bad and he remembered to eat salt and felt much better. Also there are some protein soups out there that are suppose to be really good.
  10. I am planning on having the sleeve procedure in Mexico the end of April. I have been researching for hours on end. I now have a possible 2 or 3 surgeons and plan to make a decision soon. If you are going the end of April, please contact me, maybe we can share info and support. Thanks, Brenda
  11. Thanks to both of you bkind and pnw218. Money is a big issue with me. My husband died recently and I feel like I really have to watch the money now as I am not sure when I can return to work. To tell the truth, I need to lose some weight to feel like working again. I have had 2 surgeries without incident, 1 minor and 1 major and even though I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, I have not experienced any serious problems so far. My issues have been controllable with meds. So I am optimistic that I will do fine, so many others have even with lots of weight to lose like myself. thanks again!
  12. I have been emailing back and forth with Melissa there. They have the best price for sure. I am concerned about being in a clinic instead of a hospital. How well did they prepare you for post opt? And do they test for leaks after surgery? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks to everyone for your help!!
  13. Thank you Mary. Seems like a lot of people think very highly of Dr. Aceves. His price is a little higher than many others however maybe it is a case of you get what you pay for. I have another question, is there very much aftercare needed when you go home? thanks again, Brenda
  14. Thank you so much Bernadette. If you don't mind telling me, who was your doctor?
  15. Brenda Thank you so much for your response. I would love to hear any tips or advise that you may have for me. Dr. Aceves is one of the doctors I am considering. My sister looked at his web site and was impressed. I love your name (Brenda's Gonnalose) and so many people have the cutest names on here. I gotta think me up a good one. Thanks Again, Brenda
  16. I was certain that I wanted the band surgery. Now after much research I am leaning toward the sleeve. I am interested in other's experiences. I am 60 years old, weigh almost 300 lbs. and no serious medical issues yet. I am so ready to get a life. I will be going to Mexico due to cost so any info on Mexican facilities and doctors would be appreciated. Thank you for any help. Brenda in Fl.
  17. Does anyone have experience with Doctors in Mexico? Has anyone been to Dr. Almanza at Jerusalem Weight Loss in Tijuana, Mexico? Thank you for any help you can give.

  19. I saw Dr. Szomstein who charged me $281.00 to tell me bluntly that he would not do the band on me! I would be happey losing 125 lbs even though I would still be heavy and I am not in a hurry. Anyway I found out that my insurance won't cover the band so I am thinking of Mexico now. Thanks for your reply. Brenda
  20. Yes, exactly, the dr. said he would not do the lap band on me, my BMI is too high. It would not be successful, the weight loss would be slow and I could not lose enough since I have so much to lose. I would rather lose slow, I am 56 years old and I don't care about being really thin, would love to see 200 again! Thanks for your reply!
  21. I weigh 325 and am about 5'6". My bmi is 52. I have been exploring the possibility of having the band done since Feb. of this year. Was scheduled to go to Mexico in March and my hubby got sick. Now I am trying to check into doctors that my insurance (United HealthCare) will cover. I was so disappointed when I was told this past week that I weigh too much for the band (dr. at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Fl). So I got online and started a thread and got much response, one directed me here. Thanks for all of you who have gone before me. Keep up the sharing. It really helps. Brenda
  22. Well I am so excited at all the response I have gotten. I am going to do some more investigating. I chose the Cleveland Clinic because they were so wonderful for my husbands 2 brain surgeries-another department all together. And also they accept United Health Care which is my insurance. I will go to Mexico if I can't find someone who accepts my insurance before I will have the bypass. Thanks to everyone! Brenda
  23. I weigh about 325 and the doctor told me I could not lose enough with the band. Anyone out there who has lost well and started out over 300 lbs, please respond!
  24. I went to an orientation yesterday. But the doctor told me I need to lose too much to get the band. He would only consider the bypass for me. I was very disappointed. I have been checking into the band for several months but due to my husband becoming ill I put it on hold in March and just now started again. Not sure what I am going to do now, either try other doctors or consider the bypass. How did the psychologial evaluation go for you?
  25. Has anyone been banded at the Cleveland Clinic? I am thinking being banded at the one in Weston, Florida. Would appreciate any input. Thanks, Brenda in West Palm Beach
