Losing for Jack

Same thing happened to me and i was breaking out like crazy. I was told its my body detoxing and that it would eventually clear up. Im happy to say it did clear up and my skin is much better than it was pre-op

I developed pimples on my back and shoulders awhile after post-surgery. My dermatologist looked at them and said they were nothing to worry about. They went away within about two months and never returned.

I think they'll be MORE than happy with 174 pounds in a year! Don't stress yourself to make that arbitrary goal.

I told myself that for years (that I can do it on my own with diet and exercise). Every time, I'd lose 40-50-60 lbs just to gain it back - and start the cycle over again. This went on for decades. I finally realized that no, I couldn't do it on my own. I'd tried and tried and it just didn't work. So I finally went through with the surgery. I've lost over 200 lbs and have been maintaining ever since. No way could I have done this on my own. I'd have this surgery again in a heartbeat!

I am curious as to how long it takes to get this "bump" from surgery. I am about 3-4 weeks post-op (bypass) and have not noticed any difference in drive yet.

I am about 6-7 hours post op, so may still have some Meds in me, so take this for what it’s worth.

The day started with 6-8 inches of snow (I live in the Denver area) and had to check in at 530AM. Amazingly everyone on my surgical team was on time and very bright eyed and enthusiastic.

Operation started right on time at 730, work up in post op with some discomfort in my diaphragm area....and that’s it. Incision’s don’t hurt, and the diaphragm may may have been has, because that it slowly going away.

Pretty exhausted, dozed most of the afternoon but doing shockingly well. Hoping that’s not just the meds talking, but so far a very pleasant experience!

Long story short, fine gentlemen in blue had to visit my home because of a domestic violence issue perpetrated by my "recovering" "former" meth addict brother.
Well, the guy looks at my ID, knows my brother did drugs........ And my ID is from a year before my surgery..... And so, he gives me the run down, flashlight in my eyes checking me out and all that and was quizzing me on drug use..... Because in his mind that was the only explanation for the dramatic differences between my ID and what I look like now.
Like.... Marshmallow Man vs Walking Dead character...
I laughed, showed him my only immediate proof, which was my "special meal card" my doctor gives out to patients to politely ask restaurants to eat from kids or senior menus, or have special small portions.
He laughed. I laughed. We all had a good time, until we had to go back to the "interview."

I'm right there with you (my sleeve is the 28th). All the waiting....tick, tick, tick. It's hard to concentrate at work sometimes. I'm glad today was a busy day at work.

My bypass is scheduled for the 28th and it's pretty much all I think about right now. Part excited, part nervous, but not dreading it at all. Just wish the date would get here so I can move forward.

Just over 3 weeks left ???
10/28 RNY

I am scheduled for RNY surgery on 10/28/19. Currently 400 pounds but I have gained/lost the same 50 pounds for about a decade and 400 is usually my top.
I've been overweight since I was young (8-9 years old), was able to lose weight and feel good during a stint in the Army. After I was discharged in 1995 I was 225 and build like an athlete (I am 6'4). However, I put on about 20 pounds a year, maxing out at around 425-450 (I assume, because I didn't have a scale that went that high) in 2005.
My surgeon set a "goal" for me of 240 because I am pretty big boned, but like others have mentioned, 225 in 1995 is not the same 225 today so I am keeping my lower range open. We'll see how I feel as I lose.

Good morning friends.

Typing to you guys from the hospital. Had my surgery about 12 hours ago. I haven’t looked at my incisions but I’m told there are 6 and look good. I’m drinking water And broth about t 4-6 oz/ hour. That does not make me full wondering if this is normal? I also barely feel pain. I didn’t have any gas issues at all.... all is good and II plan to go home tomorrow. Appreciate everyone who read and responded and those who IM-ed me. I guess I’lll go over to the post op thread, lol.

I remember my last trip to casual male .. the woman said this will probably be the last time we see you... it was such a strangely happy moment.

Now I am curious. From what Kaiser told me it’s their standard procedure that everyone gets. All it was, was eating some “radioactive” scrambled eggs and they tracked that through my system.

This has me somewhat baffled - and same as catwoman, I've never heard of this being done as a normal pre-op test.
I would be interested in hearing what their rationale is, as my understanding of it all is that stomach emptying in a normal person is largely a function of the pyloric valve, which is being bypassed along with the remnant stomach in your RNY. I can understand that if you were having a sleeve or DS done, which preserves the pyloric valve, then faster than normal emptying could imply a higher risk of post-op dumping or reactive hypoglycemia, which are rare with the sleeve based procedures but relatively common with the bypass (owing to the existence or non-existence of that pyloric valve.) Maybe a tendency toward rapid empyting implies that the surgeon should give you a tighter stoma to slow things down post-op?
Call me confused - but curious!
