Hello Missouri
Hi everyone, I just found your Missouri group. I have only come across one other person on here from Missouri so decided to do a search and here you all are! I live in Aldrich, MO which is 30 miles north of Springfield. I had my band surgery on June 18, 2008 by Dr. Christopher Edwards of St. John's hospital. He and his staff are awesome! I would love to make some friends for support in the area. Our support group meets at St. John's on 2nd Mondays of the month. But I am on here all the time getting tips and giving encouragement! Hope to hear from some of you! You know Missouri people are the friendliest around!:biggrin2:

FILL Question
I had my appt today for my post op and I asked the same question. My doctor watches it on on the xray while he is doing the fill and when it gets to the point he thinks is good, has me drink something to see how it filters through. Hope that helps

Will I ever feel NORMAL Again?
Hey, I am 5 days out and at work for a full day. I hit a brick wall an hour ago with the pain, so I got up and walked slowly and had a cold protien drink and am starting to feel some better. Yes, I can't wait until we are running around doing our daily business and can forget about the surgery and live our lives! I am excited about the future and what it holds for me. But I do agree about the gas pains and the port pain from sitting and standing. I guess I didn't realize the port pain was going to be so intense at first! Guessed wrong! LOL I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and so happy I took this route. LIfe is going to be great and fun to see unfold in front of me!

Last Supper
Yes I did also. I had the pasta that I am going to miss, and the BBQ also. I gained back about 4 lbs because of it but I don't regret it now that I have been banded for 6 days and lost those 4 lbs plus 20 more on the liquid diet! :grouphug:

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
My surgery was June 18th in Springfield, MO with Dr. Christopher Edwards. I was to be at the hospital at 7 a.m. and my daughter and I were. Went to the appointed nurses station and was called back to a room only after a few minutes. My minister showed up right when they were drawing blood for a pregnancy test (I told them I hadn't been exposed in almost a year! but they had to do it anyway!) so my minister prayed with me and my daughter and then left. The hospital chaplin came by a few minutes later and he prayed also. So I had a lot of prayers being said in my benefit that morning! At 8:30 they called my room and told me to go ahead and get dressed in the smashing gown and slippers they left for me and I would be ready to go! So a cutie surgery tech came and got me, took me and my daughter to the surgery area, where the hugs are handed out... LOL and she stayed in waiting area and I went to the holding pen! Talked with surgeon, happy juice guy:thumbup:, and a couple nurses, answered all their questions. Got my IV and then the happy juice was introduced. By 9 a.m. I was in surgery, they asked if I had any last questions before they put the mask on me and I said, well really not a question but a request. I told them I expected to see a tummy tuck thrown in for free when I woke up! I got a room full of laughs on that one. Then I was gone! Woke up about hour later, surgery only took 45 mins.!!! Surgeon told my daughter my liver looked really good. I was in recovery for about an hour and then back to my room. I was still pretty groggy and they came in and got me up (I was still a little woozy at that time), I did the initial urinating for them to make them happy and changed back into my clothes and I left the hospital at 12:45 p.m. and was home by 2:30 p.m.... so it went real quick. I have felt pretty good, occasional gas pain, but mainly just soreness at port site. So all in all I had a good surgery, short and sweet!

Who's getting banded in June
I am going to be banded tomorrow. I am so excited to get on with my life and move forward with it all. I have felt like I have been in a holding pattern for the last couple weeks! But I did loose almost 20 lbs on the liquid diet my surgeon requires so that is a great motivator! I am not sure about my surgery time, the office will call me today with the time! I am keeping busy here at work today to make the time pass quicker. I even dusted all the file cabinets! LOL The girls here are laughing at me! I will let you all know my surgery time when I know!:thumbup:

Help! Wife is miserable
I had gallbladder surgery about 10 years ago and felt the same way. I think it is fairly normal to feel that way. Your body has been through alot and needs to mend and it throughs your emotions out of whack. Make sure she is getting up and doing some walking, do you walk with her? That might help if you are along for her journey. Try to get her involved in a fav. activity or hobby that she can do now. Get her mind off of it! And Pray for her healing! I will be!

Looking for great recipes, low-carb and HIGH protein
Thanks for the recipe. I actually found some by doing a search for bariactric recipes also. Still looking for more. Just want to have some viable options once I can start on real food again! I don't want to get to the boredome stage and then do something stupid! LOL Thanks again!

Looking for great recipes, low-carb and HIGH protein
If any of you out there have a few favorite recipes that you have used once you were on "Regular food" again, I would love to see them. I am compiling a recipe binder for such items. Thanks! :tongue2::thumbup::smile::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

7 Days Pre-OP
I am only 7 days from my surgery date and so excited I can't stand it. My surgeon has me on a liquid diet but the first week you are allowed to have 1 (small sensible meal) and 2 protein drinks. Well that was hard, because the surgeon's idea of sensible and mine probably were in conflict. So today was my last day with any meals and I am glad. NOW I know I can't have a meal for the next 7 days and it really makes it easier to follow this diet.

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
I won't miss a lot of things! Like..... *Wanting to go somewhere with friends but deciding to stay home because you don't want to be seen in public. *Avoiding any kind of sporting activity that doesn't have bleacher seating. *Excitedly looking at pictures from an event and coming across one of myself that is just grotesque! * And all of the other things everyone else stated as well!

Who's getting banded in June
Hey, thanks for the encouragement. I have 2 co-workers (1 has been approved and one is going through the process) so I will have some good encouragement as we go to the breakroom and have our jello together! LOL I have done a liquid type thing before and by the third day it was a cake walk.... no more issues... My daughter and grandaughters live with me right now as her husband is in Iraq and she is being so supportive. Plans on having the girls fed before I get home at night from work, keeping all their snack stuff up and out of my vision and I have a whole list for this weekend of projects I want to accomplish so I can stay busy! I think proper planning will help more than anything and not sitting in front of the tv! Have a great day!

Who's getting banded in June
I am having my surgery date on June 18th now instead of the 20th. He modified the way I am to do my liquid diet so I can go in earlier. He is taking vacation towards the end of the month and wants to get us all in for our post-op 1 week apt before he leaves. So that rocks! I started my liquid diet today and so far not too bad! The protein stuff I got is actually decent in the taste area which surprised me. I am just so pumped right now I can't concentrate here at work! But I need to get my head back in the workplace. Have a great day everyone!~

"Last Supper Syndrome"
I had lost 35 lbs previously on phentermine while doing the lap band process via my surgeon, and I can tell I have probably put 10 of those pounds back on. I did buy new running shoes today (not that they will see the pavement going that fast!) more like walking. I had a talk with them and told them to make sure I am consistent with the walking exercise! My sister called today and is giving me her old treadmill!!! I am just going to have to buckle down and quit thinking about what I won't be able to have once I am banded but what new things I will be able to do once the surgery is over! I have to talk to my self once in a while! LOL:rolleyes:

"Last Supper Syndrome"
Does anyone else have what I call the "Last Supper Syndrome"???? I was approved on May 12th and sugery is on June 20th, but ever since I got the good news of approval I have had the need to eat, everything! I don't know if it is because I know if a few weeks that will be cut off from me and I am having my last big Binge. I have chatted with another who has had the same situation..... Any ideas to help get the "Last Supper Syndrome" to be a thing of the past? Thanks! Ronda

Christian bandsters
Hi everyone! I have been looking around the website and found your group... I love it. I have been looking for the Christian support. The ladies at my church are being somewhat supportive for skinny ladies... LOL They just don't understand what a heavier person deals with when they haven't had any of the issues. But they are there for me, but having a group like this on this website is awesome. I was approved through my insurance about 1 1/2 weeks ago and have my appt with the surgeon on June 5th to set my date. Looks like it might be around June 20th. I am really hoping that is the way it works out. I thought this was going to be a horrible process with what the insurance company was requesting as well as what the surgeons office has us go through, but I believe because I took all this to the Lord that everything went so easily. I went to the first seminar in March of 08 and was approved in mid May... so that was really quick. It helped that I had already started a physician led diet prior to all this. (that is what my insurance requested)... Now a co-worker I have just found out she is approved as well, so I will have a lap band buddie!!! I am glad I found this group and will be visiting you all daily! In Him, Ronda
