    I want solid foooooooood!!!!

I’m over 5 years post op but remember the torture the first few weeks were. I was lucky to live alone and not have to be around food. Now, I can tolerate and eat anything. What you are feeling is normal and will pass, best wishes on your journey.

    Rice

I’m 5 years out and can tolerate anything including rice. It’s a blessing but it makes it a tad more difficult to maintain the weight.

    SO cold

Hi- I had RNY I almost 5 years ago. Got to 132 pounds and currently at 144. I am freezing all the time. It gets in my bones and I often have to sit in a hot bath to get warmed up. I ordered a heated vest. I take a heating pad with me to places when I can. Does anyone who also deals with this post op have any advice on what they do or wear? Thanks!

Yes! I can’t drink cold water when I am cold.

    Dating

I am super lucky that I was reunited with my first love from 27 years ago in June and now we’re engaged and he adores every inch of me. Before him, if I was seeing someone and it seemed to be a potential, I would go he’d never let them know. My last boyfriend also had surgery. He wasn’t even a year out and was still eating all the junk and alcohol he wanted being in the honeymoon phase. After almost a year and him not changing, I ended it and then my now fiancé stepped on the scene!

    3 years post op

I’m a little over 3 years post op and due to bad choices have gained 18 pounds from my lowest weight. I need ideas of a typical day of eating from others who remain diligent to a low carb diet. How much protein and veggies are you in taking and do you count calories. TIA!

    3 years post op

GradyCat- how many oz of meat do you eat at a time? I’m not sure what my volume intake should be, if it’s still just one cup 3 times a day. I’m fairly certain I have stretched my pouch out and can eat way more.

    Weight gain

I’m a little over 3 years post op losing 96 pounds and have gained 20 back with alcohol being the main reason. Also, it’s become a habit as I have been drinking daily. I tend to eat more and the wrong foods when drinking. Today is the second day I haven’t had a drink and I’m going to try to only drink on Friday and Saturday and switch from wine to sugar free vodka. I was a big drinker before surgery and an even bigger one after. I hope you find what works for you to lose the weight, best of luck!

    Hair loss

I was thinning before surgery and surgery just vamped up the process. I just embraced what I could not change and now wear toppers. I have three and no longer spend money getting my hair done, just put on a topper (I have different styles and lengths) and I’m good to go, I actually love it!

Can I see some before and after pics?

Surgery 12-3-18 weight 228. I got down to 132 and after this winter being stuck indoors and bored, 10 pounds have found there way back in. Time to tighten up and get moving!!!

    Alcohol 😳

Wine only for me. But let me warn you, you will get buzzed so quickly and my experience is I tend to “black out” if more than one glass. Being home alone for these months has prompted me to drink more out of boredom and I can see it potentially being an issue. My friend had VSG two years ago and is currently in rehab, alcohol is a slippery slope after WLS.

    Anyone else?

Whew, I’m on the struggle bus big time. I live alone and had a very active social life prior to this mess. So bored at home and it’s not the food as much as it is the wine. And not going to the gym, that’s been huge too. I started an anti depressant I April and it has been helpful. I had to lay to rest my dog of 14 years on May 30 so that was another whopper to deal with. Luckily, I’m working so I do get out, but overall it’s tough. And my mama got the virus- she lives a mile away from me and I haven’t seen her in two weeks and it will be another two weeks until I do. It starts in the mind and our thinking so I’m trying to read “mind” self help books. Best of luck to you, it’s such a weird and hard time!

Is anyone else like me? (almost normal)

I’ve said from day one I don’t even feel as though I’ve had surgery. I have only been full maybe a few times, never felt restriction, never sick, nothing has gotten stuck, I have been able to tolerate every single thing- no issue. I eat my one cup of food/ follow the protein guidelines and yet, never felt like I ate and I’m starving all the time. I’m almost 11 months out and although I’ve lost the weight, I regret my decision because never feeling full and hungry all the time was my battle before surgery and I feel no different.
  15. I was scheduled off 6 weeks but ended up being off 7 because of the pain and issues.

    I need a f*#+ing drink

I had wine two months out and I have a few glasses every weekend. I can tolerate it just fine like everything else, I’ve had zero issues. I loved wine before surgery and still do.

    Alcohol

I had bypass December 3 and had my first glass of wine about 2.5 months post op. I was a big drinker before and now get buzzed fairly quickly. I’ve had liquor too, I can tolerate it well with no issue. I go to Vegas a couple of times a year and can’t imagine NOT having a drink 😊

    Bypass or Sleeve

I had bypass due to having GERD. I follow the diet to a T mostly and never feel full or restriction. The few times I’ve eaten something sweet or not on plan, no dumping or any discomfort. I’m pretty discouraged because feeling full on a small amount was my intention with having surgery. I eat my dense protein first, etc so I’m just a rare case. Since I do follow the plan I’m down 49 pounds since December 3. Do a ton of research.

    Alcohol

I was bypassed on dec 3, 2018 and had two glasses of wine about 8 weeks post op. Definitely had a buzz (I was a weekend drinker prior) and I am having a few glasses in the weekend. I have a very social life and am dating and I make sure to work out, drink plenty of water and stay on food plan. I’m not giving up my wine and I have tolerated it as well as everything else 100% just fine. Don’t even feel like I’ve had surgery.
  21. I am a little over 13 weeks out. I eat what I am supposed to, having dense protein first. I eat the required amounts only. I never, ever feel full and have zero restriction. I feel the same when I’m done eating as I did before I ate. I. feel like I can eat more but I don’t. I do not have that deep down hunger like I did prior to surgery, but I have a constant, low level hunger 24/7. Really don’t feel like I had surgery, I had zero complications with food and fluids. I had my follow up appointment two weeks ago, saw the nutritionist first, she had me increase my protein by an ounce. I waited for the surgeon and he was over an hour late seeing me and I had to leave to go to work so I wasn’t even able to ask him why I feel nothing. I’m afraid 6 months down the road I won’t be in the mindset I am now and will start to eat more. Was wondering if anyone else felt the same after bypass. I’m pretty frustrated.

    No restriction

Thanks everyone- I am very strict with the water rule- even tried an hour before and after but will try the 90 minutes as suggested. I was hoping I’d be one of those “omg I took 4 bites and was stuffed” success stories or at least hiccups, burps or nasal drainage, but I have nothing. I’m still down 40 pounds so I’m following the rules right. I appreciate everyone’s feedback!!

    Pain

I had pretty intense pain about 5 weeks post op. Almost resorted to a nerve block but it did eventually go away. I was very concerned but surgeon said completely normal. Luckily, I was off work 8 weeks and could just relax.

    Chile? Hot sauce?

I loved spicy food prior to surgery, if it made my eyes water, I loved it. I had a very, very spicy dish of beans and rice from a gal work who is from Ghana about 7 weeks out. I tolerated it with zero issue. I’m 11 weeks out and I have had no issue with eating or drinking anything. I also feel no restriction and never have felt full so I may be the exception.

    Serving size-3 months post op

My plan is one cup of food, 3 times a day. With 3-4 oz protein. I’m 11 weeks out today, I have zero restriction and never feel full. I could eat more but I don’t.
