BYPASS-ERS tell me your success stories!
I’m just over a year out from bypass surgery and I feel stronger and more alive than I have in years! My BMI is down to 26 from a high of 47. I’ve taken my vitamins as directed along with following my surgeon’s program and all my recent labs came back great. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner. Before I sound too much like a commercial for bypass, I have to say that there were times when it was HARD but any struggle that I’ve had so far is still definitely worth it to me. Talk to your surgeon and the doctor who takes care of your facial nerve pain about alternatives to using Motrin as that will no longer be an option after bypass. Best of luck to you as you make your decision!

I feel really stupid
Glad to hear that you’re getting some answers! You haven’t specifically mentioned whether you’ve been taking multivitamins, calcium, iron, etc. but remember that iron and calcium supplements can interfere with the absorption of some types of thyroid medication. Make sure that you’re not taking them at the same time. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hypothyroidism/expert-answers/hypothyroidism/faq-20058536

Confused and Depressed
I started out at 263. I was so pumped up with fluids and constipated that I did not really start losing until week 3! At 7 days, i was only down 6 lbs. I am now at month 11 and have lost exactly 100 pounds. Don’t give up hope!! Just keep doing what you’re doing and it will happen. I totally understand where you’re coming from. There have been so many times that I kept thinking that it’s not working or it has stopped working but since I’ve been sticking with my plan, the weight is still coming off.

Nausea vomiting one year out
I understand that you’re hesitant to take your PPI every day. I am a pharmacist and just wanted to point out that PPIs are not effective when only taken a few times per week. You’re literally wasting your money taking them that way. When you see your doctor, make sure to bring your concerns up so that together, you can find a medication regimen that you are comfortable with. Best of luck and I hope you find relief soon!

Nausea vomiting one year out
If you’re not taking your PPI every day, it cannot be effective. If you’re only taking it a few times per week, that’s not necessarily being conservative - you’re not giving it a chance to work properly.

Anyone else NOT have a pre-op diet?? Mine is day before only. ??♀️
Like Rick mentioned above, my surgeon’s office has all of the usual requirements leading up to surgery, but no pre-op diet. The explanation was the same - they wanted me to be as strong as possible leading up to surgery. That being said, there are so many different approaches/plans from surgeon to surgeon that I think people should stick to what they’ve been instructed to do (not trying to imply that you won’t - just a general observation). Best of luck with your surgery!

Females over 40, how "fast' did you lose with RNY?
Hi! I’m 46, female and 5’ 4”. Like the OP, I also have PCOS. RNY Bypass Surgery: 4/12/19 Highest weight: 278 Surgery weight: 263 Current weight: 168 Goal weight: 135 but I’d be pretty happy with 145. Best of luck with your surgery. My only regret these days is that I wish that I would have done this sooner!

Upper Left Lung
Please seek medical attention immediately! I had the same symptoms at almost one week post op and was diagnosed with clots in both lungs. Don’t wait! Better to be safe than sorry.

Post op ladies who wear nail polish
I’m just over 6 months out and gel nails work way better for me. I have them re-done every 2-3 weeks as well. I keep them relatively short because if I don’t, they start to break and chip.

Oikos Triple Zero is the best that I’ve found. Two Good and YQ by Yoplait are also pretty decent.
