nevertoolate got a reaction from Frustr8 in really not losing weight rapidlyclothes *do, fit more loosely... but not loosely enough, maybe? maybe I need to just drastically reduce my expectations.
real talk: I had the surgery because my diabetes was completely out of control and now my blood sugars are normal, I can drink wine (we're talking 300 calories here, people... I burn it off in less than one walk) and I don't feel sick for the first time in years. there's something about losing a boatload of weight that's so appealing though and I'm not sure this surgery has made that easier?

nevertoolate got a reaction from Frustr8 in really not losing weight rapidlyHi All,
It's been three weeks and two days. I thought the weight would be flying off post op, but it's not really. I entered the surgery at 292 and today, I'm 276 and have been here for about a week, sometimes going up a little but coming back down to 276.
I'm not doing great at tolerating food, which rolls me into slider territory with quest bars and extra protein shakes.
I know I need to restock on eggwhites and maybe some fish so I have compliant, healthy, protein packed foods at the ready. I'm working out and going on long walks with my dog consistently. feeling a bit disheartened by getting on the scale and seeing that number over and over.
I'm using myfitness pal... logging everything... I'm also in a bit of a piss poor mood. insatiable, deprived, eating rando protein and plateauing. open to hearing ideas.

nevertoolate got a reaction from Frustr8 in day 10 and if I don't have an espresso soon, there will be hell to pay.Love the data!
I like coffee in the morning and espresso for afternoon/nighttime pick me ups. My job requires me to be pretty "on"- sometimes at 2 or 3 AM- so a midnight espresso gets me together without keeping me up all night.

nevertoolate reacted to RapidFirePickle in Worried about my wifeThe reason I mentioned taking her to Anchorage Bariatrics is so they can figure out WHY she can't eat certain foods or get in enough. She may have internal problems that need endoscopy or other imaging to diagnose. She may be nutrient deficient in other ways than just protein. They can help figure it out and help her get healthy enough to begin working on strength training. Nutrition has to come first, and if she's not getting the right stuff, having a doctor who knows how to help is the first step. They can also answer YOUR questions and concerns about her health. I wouldn't want my husband to worry about me; I'd keep him involved and listen to his concerns and opinions.

nevertoolate got a reaction from selah65 in What fears did you have, before you had surgery, about why would happen after surgery? The reality is that you won't know how your specific body reacts to the surgery until you have it. I thought I'd never be able to eat anything fun again. Every meal before my pre op diet felt like a funeral for a dear friend. Nonsense. You'll totally be able to eat stuff again one day, and in moderation and with real enjoyment as opposed to binge habits.
But here's the reality. This procedure has been around for decades. It's hardly experimental anymore. Most people have little to no complications outside of the known side effects of the surgery. If you stick to the plan you're given, you're likely to skate by with flying colors.
Remember that most people who have easy or routine experiences with the surgery don't go online to start threads about "Everything's normal!" You are, by a huge margin, statistically likely to fall into the everything's normal group.
And if, god forbid, there are complications, you're in a country with the highest order of medical response. My money says you're going to do great.
Think positively and focus on eating and exercising according to plan to give your body and your surgeon the highest possible chance for success. YOU. CAN. DO IT!

nevertoolate got a reaction from debbie89 in Going on all inclusive vacation...need some tips!I think it's great that you're going on holiday! I've never been to Cuba but a number of my friends have gone and fell in love with it.
Like with anyone who has dietary restriction for any reason, be it kosher eating, diabetic eating, vegan/vegetarian, celiac disease... you have to raise your voice and make sure you're accommodated. Give the tour group a call and see what they can arrange for you. The people organizing the trip as well as the lodging folks should be able to tell you what to expect as well as whether or not they can prepare special items for you. LET THEM TREAT YOU SPECIAL. You ARE special and you just did an amazing thing for yourself.
Even after you get some assurances that they'll be able to feed you, pack some powdered protein for when you need to give yourself quick nutrients on your own terms.
I'm very new to bypass and have never taken an inclusive trip to Cuba, but I *do* know the hospitality industry very well. Treat this like an allergy that they need to work around. Make sure they're doing their part to make your trip safe and fantastic FOR YOU.

Any little blip you have, someone's already had it, won victory over it and can give you a lot of practical advice. So give us a try.
I wonder, myself how my body will react, no matter how much study you've done , it is a Strange New World, you might think you have a roadmap, but what if there are charted roads that weren't there at last printing? Nothing to DO but DO IT, and pray that things go well, and if yours goes hood, I'll be the next day. We can do THIS together!??? -

nevertoolate reacted to AEdoesRnY in day 10 and if I don't have an espresso soon, there will be hell to pay.Just so you know, one shot of espresso actually has less caffeine than a cup of coffee! It's just more concentrated - so if you had 8 oz of espresso it'd have more than 8 oz of coffee, but since you usually get a 1-2oz shot of espresso you're actually getting less caffeine. I believe one shot of espresso=20-40mg whereas a cup of coffee is around 100-140mg.

nevertoolate reacted to Frustr8 in day 9 and I could eat a tree@ nevertoolate, please don't eat a tree. It is the WRONG kind of fiber, not good for you, unless you are a beaver. Come to think of it, I don't even think they eat them, they are rodents. Rodents have to knaw things constantly or their teeth overgrown. Maloclussion for them could be fatal. -
nevertoolate reacted to nibble in day 9 and I could eat a treeI'm in this camp, too. 19 days out and OK for the mushy soups, cottage cheese, applesauce, etc - which is wonderful. But I can't achieve satiety or sense of fullness and satisfaction. Maybe I need to get over that hope/expectation? The cravings have never stopped. I thought the key to staying ahead of cravings would be high protein intake, but so far that isn't the case for me. I've analyzed real hunger vs head hunger but haven't found much difference.

I was the same way, zero issues at all. Nursing staff were calling me their dream patient before the end of the first night. Zero nausea, zero issues with pain or pain management, didn't need any extra anything, hardly needed the nursing staff at all. Zero issues with drinking. I also joked that I didn't have the surgery that it was all for show.

nevertoolate reacted to Creekimp13 in How important is Exercise?Stuff I do to get more movement:
1. New rule in my life...if I'm watching a show and a commercial comes on? I have to walk.
2. New rule in my life...any time i'm on the phone, I need to be on my feet. I walk the whole time i'm talking. If it's for business, I carry my notes with me. If it's friends/family, I walk around my yard while talking.
3. When I wake up (with my fitbit on as usual), I make my coffee, do some dishes, take trash out, start laundry, and don't sit down until I have at least 2000 steps. Great way to start the day ahead of the game, and I'm usually half asleep while doing this...so I don't even feel it. LOL:)
4. I ride my bike to the mailbox everyday (it's a quarter mile from my house). Most days, I ride to the end of the road (about two miles) before grabbing the mail. Yep, I live in the middle of nowhere. Lotta land.
5. I mow a big portion of my lawn by hand with a push mower. Cracks me up to see people pay for a gym membership and then get on their riding lawn mower. LOL. Mowing lawns is an AWESOME workout. My hubby is thrilled I've picked up this habit:) Lawns are always done for the weekend.
Anyone else have a few active lifestyle tips?

nevertoolate reacted to Frustr8 in Not preparedROFLMFAO you,are so so true. We give our former goodies, blunt our tastebuds with that slushy liquid diet, then when we finally add back in flavor,it hits our sleeping tastebuds so hard, things don't taste the same, and if our reduced gastric capacity doesn't slow us down enough evil nausea will. This is a game with no true winners for a while. And folks,i will start the Evil Plan August 1st, they drafted me for 2 weeks, I voluntarily signed up for,4 weeks instead. Rather like hearing I could be a humble foot soldier in the Army, instead singing up for the Navy because I could make Chief Petty Officer. Too late for a,moment of clarity now!??? -
nevertoolate reacted to CyclicalLoser in Did I even just have gastric bypassThere is a small possibility you are now lactose intolerant. Give it a few days, but if it still causes gas and you are the opposite of constipated...then you might have the same problem as me. You could also water down the protein drink in case it is a viscosity problem. Just a few ideas.
