Only need to loose...
I was banded one month ago yesterday. I had no dramatic loss the first month, like many that you will read about. I lost 8 lbs while i was on liquids, then gained almost all of it back, now i have gradually lost the 8 again. I had my first fill on wednesday. i am 5ft2in and i started at 207.

I'm a stomach sleeper, are you?
This Was My Biggest Whining Issue After Surgery!! I Had TROUble laying on my side and stomach for a good week. then about the middle of week two i was able to sleep on my side//stomach. so i say two weeks and you should be able to sleep comfortably again. fyi-my port is in the upper center line of my abdomen, below my diaphram. sounded awkward to me at first too, but i would not have it any other place now that i am used to it.

First Fill Tomorrow
i was filled at the SurgiCenter in Houston. the lady took my weight, bp, asked questions about diet, exercise, etc. I went into a room with a doctor, a technician, the big xray machine, and the table. i laid on the table, raised my shirt to expose my port site. the doc looked at all of my incisions and declared an art-full result. the doc felt for the port, asked if i was ready, when i said yes, she inserted the needle. this was less painful than the last time an ant bit me. there was no local used, and i recently had local, so the pain of THAT needle and medicine is fresh on my mind. this needle did not hurt NEARLY as bad as the local does. my port is very near the to the surface. she put in 1.5 cc's, i got up and stood in front of the xray, and swallowed barium. she had to pull out .2cc's because 1.5cc had me completely blocked. she watched the barium, then had me swallow another dose of barium while she watched. there was LOTS of chit-chat and small talk while all of this was going on(this helped to distract me). then i had to drink about 4-5 oz of Water before i could leave. i was very thirsty so that was a breeze. i sipped cautiously at first, but then remembered that i had watched the barium pass and a rate that would allow drinking a normal size drink((the new normal that is)). i have not FELT the restriction yet, but I am not interested in testing my limits. I am on soft foods til tomorrow. i have already notice that i am not nearly as hungry as i was. YIPPPIIEEEEEEEEEE!! I woke up this morning at 198.8, so i have now caught back up with my ticker!! i have to back off the scales now. i am not going to weigh again until monday! luv ya #2!!! roni

First Fill Tomorrow
not to my knowledge...but i actually think my clothes weighed more than 2 lbs. i wore my chukkas today and they weigh a pound each!! well, #2, I am confident that my weight will be moving fast now. i was already starting to lose again. it took two weeks, but here is how my weight loss went..... week one---liquids and mushies-i wasnt very hungry, lost from 203.7 on surgery day, down to 198. week two---mushies, and cheated with solids chewed well, maintained loss. week three---went to the doctor who authorized moving to solids--gained back up to 203. week four---gradually lost a pound and a half over the week, 201.5:clap2: currently in week five---down another pound and a half, 200.:clap2: ok, i guess it is just about time to set a mini-goal for mini_me...how does 195 sound for me? is this too small of a goal? what do you think ?

Anybody go to Dr. Spivak?
Hey Kathy!! I do not know how I missed these posts. I scheduled my first fill week before last, the schedule was really full. I was able to schedule on April 12, but I know that the schedule is still full. They told me to make sure that, in the future, I call as soon as I have indication that I need a fill. As far as eating in the amount of time you have for lunch...the nurses told me to stop eating after 20 minutes...regardless of what is left on my plate. That is easier said than done. I have a job where I can sit at my desk and eat while I work. I usually eat one chicken strip for lunch, with a spoonful of cooked veggie, and an ounce of dressing to dip the chicken into. (I work next door to a Golden Coral...cheesy, I know, but you CAN eat cheap there. $1-$1.50/day.) Well, Kathy, did you schedule the fill for the 27th? I know I read someone had scheduled then, was it you? GOSH-I wish I had told you to schedule earlier...I knew I should have sent you a message. ((kicking self)) Take care Kathy, we will talk later!

4 weeks post OP
call your doc and ask if you can eat for peter's sake... my doc moved me on to normal foods after two weeks. i was able to drink all i wanted, and i would stop eating after twenty minutes of mushies, but i never got full, and still have not backed up. today, for lunch, i ate a grilled hamburger patty...probably 4 oz cooked, and a spoon full of turnip greens. The i ate some sugar free pudding, and still could have eaten more. I have absolutely NO NO NO restriction. Sounds like you may be in the same boat with me. I am 3 weeks post op now. my doc let me eat at two weeks, he just reminded me to CHEW chew CHEW and STOP when I start to feel fullness/tightness/backing up/etc...but i really have not had any of that(except for once when I ate too fast, dern that first bite). good luck!! (gosh, gotta love wheetsin, but man, i would love to hate her...50 lbs in a month? who does that!!!! {winks at wheetsin!! Congrats sister!})

Newbie from North Texas
WELCOME...and the "100 lbs" overweight thing applies for insurance. The way my doc explained it is that the insurance has all these requirements, if you want insurance to cover, then you have to meet their guidelines. The FDA has their guidelines, but that does not make it illegal or immoral to deviate from those guidelines. My BMI was also 38, and my doc told me that i would have to sign a piece of paper telling me that this surgery was INTENDED for folks with a BMI of >40 or BMI>35 with comorbidities, and here are the risks. He explained that with my history, it would likely be about a year or two before my BMI reached 40, and he is not going to make me wait until i am that heavy before doing surgery. I signed the little sheet of paper, handed over a chunk of change, and he banded me.((definitley not that simple, but you get the point)) You are definitely a candidate for evaluation for surgery if you have at least 40 lbs to lose. I am a very healthy obese woman, and my doc did the surgery. He told me that he only believes i need to lose 50 lbs, although, I would like to lose about 65. Welcome again, this is a great community. And good luck to you!

What was I thinking?
i did not tell many folks. only the necessary people at work. i set rules for those who know...they can only ask me about my weight on mondays, and if i dont look like i have lost weight, then don't ask. i am a pretty matter of fact kind of talker, so it was easy for me to tell those folks my expectations. I am proud to have the band also, but i do not want the band to define who i am. i do not want EVERY conversation to start with...so, hows the diet going? good luck
