  1. For now I would wait. You are not able to consume enough calories. A trainer would use your resting metabolic rate to calculate how many calories you burn without exercise to help you determine what is the optimal amount of calories for you to consume daily and lose weight. (or something like that) At this point this is pretty much predetermined by the surgery.
  2. I haven't had the surgery yet but going with the bypass. I have severe GERD with esophageal spasms and diabetes type 2 as well and the doc said that the bypass really was my only option. Dumping is a plus in my book. Another tool to keep me honest.
  3. Oh, no. Not happened to me but how awful and worrisome. Hope you heal quickly.
  4. Has anyone used this app? I was searching for helpful apps and came across this one. It has really good ratings and seems like a good tool.
  5. @michelle_lynn you look amazing!!! Congratulations and kudos on a job well done.
  6. I have found that keeping a food log that you actually fill out through out the day keeps you honest. At first your stomach will likely keep you honest on its own but I found that seeing it written down added just enough of a guilty feeling to stay on track. Of course I also found that keeping such a log was a great big chore and the minute I stopped logging my foods I started eating poorly....yo yo... Now that I have finally joined the 21st century and got me a smart phone it will be easier to do than carrying a big sheet of paper around.
  7. Thank you Ylime this is very generous of you!
  8. yes please! an update. What an exciting time for you. Hope all went well and you are not in too much pain.
  9. I am also thyroid-less due to having had thyroid cancer. In order to suppress any thyroid cells from coming back they keep me "hyperthyroid". You'd think that would have helped me keep some weight off.. No I was not so lucky. Maybe its like you said synthetic hormone is never as good as the real thing. One word of advice which may or may not apply, but being on high levels of thyroid replacement hormone causes bone density loss. Since these surgeries can cause calcium deficiency, you young ones might want to keep a close eye on your calcium levels because you might be at higher risk of developing osteoporosis later on.
  10. For me specifically it is for a bit of variety there are good things in both animal and plant proteins. One important distinction for me is that animal proteins have more or at least some unhealthy fats and cholesterol. Personally I would likely go more for the meatless rather than the chicken-less. Costco sells their rotisserie chicken already shredded, boneless, skinless and of course already cooked in a big package and it is super yummy. My biggest falling off the wagon trigger is that I hate to cook for too long. When I want food I want it an hour ago so I reach for convenience foods and the rest is history.
  11. Wow, this is great! I've been reading a lot about nutrition in hopes of.. and preparing for... and the nutrition and ingredients in these products sound great. I'll to give them a try as it appear that my grocery store carries them..
  12. Oh I am a girl, but do you mean that perhaps I could lose my facial hair instead of my head hair? That would be awesome!! Seriously though if you are concerned about that, you might want to start taking Biotin supplements right away. I am hoping if I have a good supply in my system prior to surgery I might not be as deficient of it as I would be otherwise and possibly stave off some of my hair loss. It is an experiment though. I don't know if that works and I have not seen anything online that says it helps. I do know it can't hurt. I have butt length hair and would also prefer not to lose a whole lot of it if I can avoid it at all.
  13. I am also worried about this. How much sleep do you actually get at the hospital after the surgery. I would like to bring my tablet with me and was thinking that when I sleep and I'm alone, I could just put it under the sheet and my legs. Think that might be feasible?
