    40 something sleevers?

I'm 44 and getting sleeved on Monday. I've lost 50 lb on my own. I feel like this is the perfect time in my life to do it. Reading all of your comments is so encouraging! Thanks for sharing your journey!
  2. Oct 1 for me! I had my pre-op class and pre-op clinic appt today. I started my pre-op diet yesterday, it's high protein/low carb. It started rough but it's better today. 12 days to go!

    Insurance Approval Q

Thank you so much for this info about calling in. When I read this my spidy senses kicked in, I decided to call and low and behold, they are waiting for something from the dr. office. I just sent a very matter of fact email to the coordinator asking what is the hold up on their end. Always be your own advocate!

    *** September 2018 Sleevers ***

Everything has been submitted to my insurance company. I have the endoscopy scheduled for aug. 28. I am thinking that I will be scheduled for late Sept. I have been eating so much better. I've lost some weight and people keep asking, " why are you having the surgery then?" I have to keep repeating for them and myself because I need this tool to keep it off. Cheers Sept Sleevers!

    Sleep Study

I've had 2 done since March. Each time, I went straight to work from the sleep center. It was pretty easy. Uncomfortable with the wires, monitors and the CPAP, the second time I was in. The info they gather is very useful.
  7. I was cleared by the psychologist on Friday, got clearance from the CPAP-Pulmonology dept, all of the pre-op classes are complete. I reached out to the coordinator and she said, i've completed all the requirements...on to the surgeon consult. Just waiting to be scheduled to meet the surgeon. I could have a date very soon. So excited!
  8. I started this journey 2 months ago, meeting with a doctor at the lifestyle medicine center. I've lost 20+ lbs. I'm feeling better. I went on vacation and was able to stick to my new eating habits. I began having second thoughts about the surgery. Last night, I had my second sleep study using the CPAP. As I was getting ready for the test I was reviewing all of the tests I have had done in the last 6 months. My asthma spiraled out of control last december and it took 5 months, many tests, 2 maintenance inhalers, 2 medications, my PCP and the pulmonologist to get it back under control. I realize that my weight was not the cause of my asthma but definitely didn't help. Reviewing the test results I was reminded that my quality of life sucked and that if I want to have a healthy, good quality of life in 20 years, I need to address my weight. So I am no longer having second thoughts, I am excited that I only have one more nutrition class, a few visits with the psychologist (since I failed my first eval in April) and 30 days on the CPAP. I've completed many steps to the healthier version of me. I hope to be scheduled by the end of August. This message board has been so encouraging! I appreciate your stories and the way you've supported each other.
  9. Hi- I am hoping for a late summer surgery but I did not pass my psych eval mostly because I was too honest. SO I have 4 to 6 more visits with that doctor...in the mean time I have to get some things done: attend the required classes, do another sleep study, get used to my CPAP and practice eating well. I have given up most of my sugar. I am down to one diet pepsi a day, a huge improvement from 5 to 6 a day. tomorrow is my first day with no pop. I am scared. But I am more scared of what my life will be like in 20 years if I don't change my habits now. Looking forward to getting to know others on this journey.
