  1. ok, folks - need to know if anyone has experienced this: surgery on May 19, moving along just fine, had first fill 3 weeks ago. About 1 week ago, started to have this pain under my left breast that radiates through to my back under my left shoulder blade. I was scared enough to go to the doc - my primary did an EKG and said it looked fine. My Lap Band doc did a upper GI swallow test - no results yet. Anybody have this pain too? Is it from my band? I admit I've had a horribly stressful couple weeks and have been eating too much. Is it from overeating? HELP!
  2. gosh, I'm so glad to hear others have experienced the same thing. It's so scary! I also wondered about acid reflux?
  3. Maybe you have some adhesions internally from the surgery, and the pain is referred to the "area". I know that during my period, I have weird pulling areas I didn't have before, and I think it may be some scarring/pulling from the internal incisions.

    question about coffee

I'm six weeks out and have been drinking alittle 1/2 caff in the morning. I know, I know... But, it's my only vice I have left! I have 2 little ones and don't get the sleep I should. Haven't had any trouble - in fact, it is soothing in the AM when the band is tight.

    Are you enjoying the ride??

It's really an interesting journey. I feel like a baby learning to eat all over again. Sometimes it sucks - but... having my husband, who loves me no matter what, say "You look smaller" or buying one size smaller clothes, or being able to go on a 2 mile walk with my family is making the ride great!

    Lifting a baby post-op

HI - I got a 2-step stepstool for my 2 yr old, and she climbs up to her changing table and into the crib, with my "spotting"her. It really hard not to lift them when they want you to - just tough it out. I did lots of playing on the floor with her too so she'd still feel like I was lovin' on her alot. Good luck!
  7. I promise you'll be able to eat again. I was banded on 5/19, and felt just like you do for the first couple weeks. liquids were even a struggle. But, as soon as my stomach swelling went down, hunger returned and I started eating little bits of mushies. You'll do just fine!

    Diet Soda, Post-Lap Band

I was a Diet Coke Freak! I kinda miss it - it was comforting, which is weird. What I miss more is BEER! I love me some microbrew!!!
  9. It is sooo hard not to lift, snuggle, carry my 2 yr old daughter. She can climb in my lap for books at bedtime, and I got a two step stepstool so she can climb to her changing table and into her crib. I notice that she is really irritable, and I think it's because I haven't been able to do the normal things I do with her. I think she's feeling alittle neglected! So, Don't lift! be creative - it's tough but you'd hate to rip stitches or pull something after coming this far! Good luck!
  10. I know!!! We are going to a family wedding, which I normally would dread because I am heavy. When I was shopping for an outfit, I actually tried on a size 20 and it fit! I was a solid 24/26. I feel so much better about myself. In actuality, I probably don't look very different on the outside - I've lost 29 lbs. - but inside I feel so different and proud, and feel kinda cute now
  11. I felt the exact same way. The first week was tough with the pain, gas, feeling weak, etc. I completely had times when I thought "why the heck did I do this?" Now I am 3 weeks out and feel great and really excited about what is to come. It'll pass, I promise. You did a really loving thing for yourself, taking care of your health!
  12. what about taking it with a little milk? I have a blood pressure med that I have to take with food or milk, and milk has been just fine after the band.
  13. Me too! I'm going on vacation and have to wait for the fill. I'm freaking out because I was zipping along on the liquid diet, but once mushies came in, no weight loss. Plus, I remember what real food tastes like and am getting HUNGRY. I am going to the crabcake/rich food heaven that is my mother-in-law's house for vacation and am very nervous!!!

    Whats everyone eating?

ok, I just started mushies on Thursday, still eating about 500 cals per day (trying to step it up, but hard so far) and I gained 2 pounds. what the hell??? Does this even out?
  15. I'm still on mushies, mind you, but I've been ordering a side or a soup. Still can't eat it all, obviously, but at least I don't feel like I waste a whole meal. I also can share with my 5 yr. old, who never eats his whole meal. I just get something for him that works for me too.
  16. sometimes if I sit up straight and lean forward, kinda crunching my tummy up, it helps me burp. I have the same problem. Sometimes it lasts half the day and I feel like I can't eat a thing!

    Protein Intake

I got mine at GNC - it's Pro Performance unflavored whey protein. sometimes I can taste a little something, but mostly not. Also, unjury website has unflavored protein powder.

    Protein Intake

yup, I add unflavored Protein powder to almost everything. I also made a ricotta cheese, garlic, italian spice, parm. cheese melt thing I read about on here and then put spag. sauce on top, delicious!!! Try Protein Water - you get 5 grams and some of your fluids too. Your can add a bit more Protein Powder to it too, to boost it. Oh, and I've gotten lots of good ideas from the Nutrition section of this forum good luck!

    high blood pressure

Your body is probably still freaking out a bit from the surgery and the drastic change in eating. It'll even out, I'll bet. Maybe its from your body not having food really and trying to adjust.
  20. Hi! Yes, I think they all do banding now, and I think just in the last year. There are several docs in the practice- I think Fisher does the most bands. But Fedorak was awesome. Penrose has that whole specialized unit for bariatrics. I actually had mine done at Printers Park surgical center since that's all my insurance would approve, but had a great experience. Your friends are welcome to post questions to me if they have any
  21. Hi, Colorado Springs Surgical Associates all do bariatrics. My doc is Dr. Fedorak, and he is wonderful! The are in Colorado Springs at Penrose Hospital on Cascade Ave. downtown. Penrose Hospital is a Center for Excellence in Bariatrics. Good luck!
  22. you are probably feeling restiction from your stomach being swollen. I do feel some if I drink liquids too quickly. I haven't lost anything since the surgery, which logically I know is OK, but is kinda discouraging! And this damn gas!!!
  23. Not really, just really puffy. What is most uncomfortable is the port placement - I feel very sore there. How about you?
  24. Me too - I was banded on May 19th, and have sooo much gas. My stomach looks pregnant! And I just feel really puffy. I do think it's getting a little better each day, though. Hang in there!

    Am I hungry?

I was banded on May 19th. I thought the opposite would happen, but oh man! Hope this doesn't last. I am trying to mix Benefiber with everything.
