  1. Hello all...been a while since I've been on here. My wife had her band put in during April of 2008. My wife has been having some issues with weight gain/pain for the last few months. Today an ECG showed that her Lap-Band has completely eroded through her stomach. She was told by the GI doctor that she would have to have it taken out, let her stomach heal, and then, if she wants another, put another band in. We called the Dr's office that did the band, told them the results and they scheduled an appointment for next monday. Anybody ever have this happen to them???

    Question Help!

My BMI was 36 when my insurance approved it...I have United Health Care...they required a 40 BMI with no questions asked....Between 35-39 BMI you had to have co-morbidity factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. If you have any of these sometimes the insurance companies will lower your BMI requirement for surgery. Check if you already havent

    Hi Everybody!

The Optifast got a little tough...my wife had to do it for 2 weeks, I only had to do it for 1 week (there was a problem with my insurance approval). On top of the optifast, we did eat jell-o, and broth but that is about it. It is tough at the beginning, but after you get banded the liquid diet really isnt all that bad...after you get banded you will be on Clear liquids for 1 week and then full liquids for about 2-3 weeks. I recommend you buy a drink called Isopure from GNC or Vitamin Shoppe...They give you 40 grams of Protein in a 20oz. bottle. You will need the protein to help you heal and to give you a boost. When my wife and I go to our post-op appointment we will find out about the various things bandsters do from that office together. Hope to meet you at any upcoming picnic. Keep me posted about your experience with the group and your surgery...

    Hi Everybody!

I was banded by Dr. Dicicco and Grossbard on 4/3...So far everything has gone well and I go for my post-op appointment this Monday....We used this group because they came highly recommended, both me and my wife had the surgery on the same day. My wife works at Tampa General Hospital so they did the surgery there. No issues. Are you in the Tampa area?

    Am I Normal???

It all sounds normal to me...I was banded 7 days ago...my port still is tender but not as much as before...it is slowly subsiding. I have just been changed from clear liquids to full liquids (which included strained creamy-type soups and skim milk). The pain in your chest is normal....I do have food cravings throughout the day but they will get better once you are able to put something of substance in your mouth. Try and get some protein in you...Like Isopure drinks or protein powder. you will be fine...and make sure you dust off the television screen before you lick it....or maybe that will help...if you lick the screen and it tastes like crap it might curb you appetite for what you were looking at...ha ha...you might have something there
  9. Hello everyone, I am 4 days post-banding and still on clear liquids. I am drinking protein shakes and Isopure drinks to get protein. Anybody get pain in the left side (or right) of their neck? Not sure what that is indicating??
  10. Okay...so I had the Band put in several days ago..still on clear liquids, now I'm wondering if I made the right decision. Let me put this out in front now...I am a "murphy's law" believer in whatever can go wrong will go wrong...I'm now worried about long term issues with the Band...If I take it out will my stomach go back to its original shape? I work in a job that requires much physical labor, how will this affect it? worry worry worry

    eats

Hey everyone, I'm new to this site and I am still learning the navigation of it. I am 5 days post-op and I read that some people can eat chili during the mushy stage...Do you make regualr chili with meat, tomatos, etc.? Or is there some other way ....If anyone has a band friendly recipe please let me know...thanks

    Law enforcement thread

Hey everyone, I am a LEO in Florida and am 5 days post-op...Going to be on light-duty for about 3 weeks at work, but still a little nervous about damage to my port area. I work in a crappy part of town, and fight happen every so often, just a little worried about that. Anyone have any issues??

  16. So far so good.. I am 5 days post-op..My wife and I had it done at the same time. She left the hospital that day I had to stay overnight because my Oxy. level was low due to me not taking deep breaths (my stomach hurt). At home you will be groggy the 1st maybe even the 2nd day, but you gotta walk around. My belly was distended for about 2-3 days but it has subsided. My port hurts a little, but only if I bump my belly or sleep on it wrong. Just make sure you doctor, or your doctors nurse are open and good with any worry type calls you may make after surgery....They should be good with that...good luck!

    Port pain

Thanks for the reply to my original thread guys...My port is still slightly sore but is getting better, what I meant by sticking out was written wrong, I meant that it leave a small bump where you can see where it is. The nurse told me that its more noticeable on guys than girls. hmmm
  19. I am 3 days post surgery...I have 2 questions..Is it normal to be able to feel my port, due to it sticking slightly out of my belly and is it normal to have sharp pains centralized exactly where my port is?
  20. Hello everyone, My name is Dennis, myself and my wife were banded in Tampa, FL on April 4th. Very excited, yet still very nervous. My wife seems to be doing great, I, on the other hand, have a centralized pain at my port site, not sure if this is common or not, hope so...
