Surgery tomorrow!!!
My surgery is at noon tomorrow (although I’ve been told that my surgeon likes to move things up when possible which I experienced with my EGD) and I am SO excited! I’ve got to go finish some shopping today, finish packing my overnight bag and then do the Hibicleans showers. Sleep tonight and then it’s time for my VSG! The only part I’m dreading is the pain and nausea after surgery. Perhaps I’ll get more nervous as the day rolls on but for now I could just jump up and down with happiness! Woah! Thank goodness for insurance...$25,000
Oh I would 100 percent not be doing this even if my OPM was the full $10,000. There’s no way I could afford it. And while I’ll definitely go to Mexico to get 2 missing teeth implants, I’m too worried to get a big surgery done there. I know it’s worked out really well for a lot of people, but I just couldn’t. Pre-surgery
I’m going for VSG on Thursday!!! It literally just sunk in that when I wake up tomorrow, the surgical preparations begin! I can’t believe it! Right now I’ve moved past the nervous stage right into the LETS DO IT NOW stage of excitement! [emoji23] But we’ll see what I’m thinking tomorrow night when it’s time to try and get 8 hours of sleep! Ladies, TMI question
That’s exactly it! And it’s still friggin happening! Good lord! I’m going to call tomorrow to see if they have and suggestions but I’m definitely not canceling. I’m sure this has happened before and they’ll know what to do. I’m not ridiculously crampy anymore, but I definitely want to let them know that this is most likely still going to be going on. Day of surgery testing for nicotine
I’m May 10 too and they don’t test at all unless use is suspected. I went to nicotine free vaping and they have no problem with that. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! First goal weight: 191 lbs Second goal weight: 159 lbs Goal weight: 142 lbs 5’6” 34 yo female in NC

Woah! Thank goodness for insurance...$25,000
Tell me about it! That’s about the same for mine. My OPM and deductible would have totaled $9,750, BUT because I’m on some expensive meds (mainly humira) which my insurance charges me $1,300 for each month, I’m only going to have to pay a little over $2500 for the surgery and all that goes with it. And no, I DO NOT pay that for my humira either! I use a savings card which makes my portion $5 but my insurance company still makes it like I’m paying the whole $1300. Ha! Any MAY sleevers???
Yes it is! I’ve marked down the days when my diet will change, what I can eat, etc. I planned out every pre-op test and appt to the T. I collected all the information I could, whether it was given to me by my doctors or nurses or research I had done on my own or advice I received from previous sleevers. I bought certain things in advance. I track EVERYTHING on the Baritastic app. Planning every little thing controls my anxiety in a massive way. If you’re like me and worry about the price of eggs in Nebraska (a psychiatrist told me this once and it DOES describe me and is also funny) plan EVERYTHING. Put it in your calendar. Track it on an app. Keep in constant touch with all your doctors. If you’re working over a question, call you doctor and ask it. And ask on here too. My only word of warning, STAY OFF WEBMD. And, avoid the few negative posts you see on here. Realize that those people’s issues are typically very rare. I just plan plan plan. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! Suggested Protein Powders Please
I LOVE the unflavored Unjury. I couldn’t stomach the Optifast bars and soups, so my surgeon let me have a cup of strained low-fat soup in place of a shake each day. He suggested the Unjury and I’ve never looked back. One scoop is 90 calories and gives you a whopping 21g of protein. It doesn’t have a taste, but it does have a slight smell. This has not bothered me at all, but just letting you know. I also got a sample pack of Unjury flavors at my pre-op appt, so I’ll be trying those after surgery too. I just don’t want to buy too much prior to surgery since your tastes tend to change. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! Any MAY sleevers???
No. You’re not the only one. I too was terrified of the anesthesia because I had never been under before. But I had my EGD done and they used propofol. I was terrified before! Then I had it, everything went beautifully and I don’t remember a thing. Now my surgery is 2 days away and I’m ready. Just going through that one little anesthesia experience gave me the chance to be comfortable with it and relax. I also has everything very bad anxiety (hello klonopin on the daily!) Fair warning though, the pre op diet (especially if you’re doing all liquid) is a real bear at first. I’m not saying that to be mean or make you anxious about something else, but personally I like to be super prepared because it helps aliviate some of my anxiety. You will be hangry, you will probably have a headache or two and you’ll get tired pretty easily. BUT after 3-4 days, you’ll feel fine. It’s all about beating that head hunger. Just drink water like crazy [emoji38] I am also a great candidate for my sleeve, have no problems like hernias or ulcers or polyps and my surgeon is top notch. I think you, like me, will get less anxious about the whole surgery once you get that little bit of anesthesia and come out of it fine. If you ever need to talk to someone about anything, hit me up. Since we both have anxiety that requires medications, I think it would be good if we talked to each other. Similarities and all that. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! Is everyone losing weight but me?
3 days left of my preop diet. Next 2 days only protein shakes. I lost 8 pounds pretty quick the first week. Now.... nothing. Just staying at the same 257 every day. I went from never having periods thanks to my Nexplanon implant, to 5 days of the heaviest, crampiest, longest I’ve had since my 20’s when I was diagnosed with PCOS. And to top it off, I woke up this morning with 5 huge pimples! I’ve always had clear skin. I never had large breakouts even when I was in my teens. I don’t have a set weight loss for my surgery since I’ve already lost 53 pounds, but jeeze! I feel like a loser (not the good kind). Am I failing at this before the long haul even starts? I don’t understand. Is it hormones? All the water? Bloating? Too much protein? Have I hit a stall because of losing those 50 pounds earlier? What’s going on? I feel like everyone is already doing so well and now I’m just stuck at the back of the class. I don’t mean to beg here, but if anyone can offer any reassurance that this all ok or even a bit normal it would help put my mind at ease. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! The surgery journey begins
THREE DAYS UNTIL SURGERY!!! Let me tell you (and myself in case I forget or get feeling sorry for myself later) that the excitement IS REAL! After today, it’s only the Optifast shakes for 24 hours. No more protein bars or soups or anything. But I can do this. I’m a little discouraged by the past couple days. I’ve been drinking over 100oz of water a day with 5 Optifast products and 2 servings of jello. The first 6 days, I dropped a pound a day. But now, I’m stalled. Is it the water? I’m not peeing nearly as much as I was in the first week despite drinking more water now than I was then. I feel like my hormones are all out of whack now. I have the worst period I’ve had since my early 20’s. Heavy, crampy and nonstop for 5 days now. I have the Nexplanon implant in my arm, which I’ve had since January 2017. After 4 months I had completely stopped having periods and it was a magnificently glorious time in my life. Now it’s like all those missed periods are getting together for one giant party. It’s awful. They also brought 5 nice pimples with them. They weren’t there yesterday, but I looked in the mirror this morning and BAM! Say hello to my little friends! I’m just feeling really down. Have I done something wrong? Why can’t I lose those few extra pounds? Am I bloated? Too much water? Too much protein? Just crazy hormones? WTH? My surgeon doesn’t have a weight loss requirement for me before surgery Thursday since I’ve already lost 53 pounds on my own, but I feel like I’m a failure before I’ve even really started. Is this foretelling my future? Am I going to be a mess who can’t even lose weight after having a sleeve? I’m excited by the surgery getting closer, but the overwhelming feeling now is that I’m disappointing everyone but myself most of all. HW: 311 CW: 257 SW: We’ll see on May 10! Almost quit on Day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet
Howling at the moon would be nothing new for me [emoji23] But so far I’m still excited and not nervous. I’m sure the night before I’ll be panicking out though. At my pre-op testing the nurse told me “make sure you get 8 hours of sleep before your surgery!” I just looked at her. And then we both laughed. I’m just hoping for no complications, no staple line leaks and that I only have to stay the one night as planned. If the WLS gods could throw in only slight nausea, I’ll be pleased as punch!
