May bypass
I've heard that we shouldn't ever trust a fart, post op... but if the level of gas afterward is anything like what I've had through the liquid diet, I'm going to be in the bathroom more than I'm out. lol

Day 9 - meditation I've never been one for meditation, but I've been a little curious about the different apps to help. I'll spend some time today checking them out. B-side - caffeine post-op? My RD hasn't really said much about it, but then she knows I usually only have coffee once or twice a week at most. Mostly, I use it as a laxative... drink one cup and an hour later I'm as happy as a lark.

Nope, I asked. Now I just have to knuckle down and get through. 6 more days of shakes, and a day of clear liquids. Then this bit will all be a memory.

Thanks! Sadly, I don't have a lot of choice in the matter. I'm on 5 Glucerna shakes + 200 cal of veggies... that's it. Trying to stay active and not let the food thoughts overwhelm me.

Surgery release question
My hospital's instructions say no driving for 3 days and I'm not allowed walk home. We only live 2 blocks from the hospital, but my hubs will be going to get the car when I'm released.

Day 8 - Crafting Sadly, no time for any sort of creativity today. They were able to salvage the info off the hard drive off my dead laptop, thank the good Lord, so today is devoted to trying to get all the essentials situated and accessible on my husband's computer. I have a class to teach tonight at my church and I need my lesson plans! Going to do my darnedest to get in my 12k steps today and push ups will definitely be happening before lunch. B-side: What can't WLS fix? The stuff that's always been in my head... the negative self-talk that tries to remind me that I'm a failure, that I'm going to screw this up too. That's something I have to continue to work on and face down every morning when I look in the mirror.

Day 7 - work up a sweat. With my walking workouts, I've been attempting to up my speed and intensity. Normally it take me 33ish minutes to get 4000 steps. Yesterday I was able to get that down to 29 minutes. And for at least one of my walks (I do 3) I have started using my 2lb weights to work my arms a bit too. Push ups will be done shortly! My countdown to surgery is in the double digits now! Woohoo! Have a great day everyone!

Is this a horrible idea?
I agree with what Briswife said. You can change your mind at any point right up to surgery, so use the prep time to absorb all you can about it and what to expect afterwards. Ask questions, read everything you can, and learn about life post op. Weigh the benefits of change versus the benefits of staying the same. Someone on these boards suggested to make a list of what you'll miss post op compared to what you look forward to post op. For me, when I was totally honest with myself, it was truly eye opening. Be true to you and you'll make the choice you need to.

One cruel twist of fate for me on this liquid diet... my week of PMS has started so not only am I retaining water like mad, but I'm also twice as hungry as usual. Grrr...

B side... I'm big on scrambled eggs, and they have to be dry. None of those soft squishy runny scrambled eggs for me. I've only recently (in the last couple of years) come to appreciate a runny yolk. I'm interested to see if my tastes change post op.

1 week post op, liquid diet
Hmmm... my clinic doesn't recommend protein shakes for the pre OP liquid diet (they prefer meal replacement shakes like Glucerna or optifast), but post they're totally fine with protein shakes. Have you looked into unflavored protein powder to add to soups, etc?

Sous vide cooking!
It's a method of cooking under water. You need a special appliance that fits on the side of a pot that keeps the water at a constant temperature. You place your meat in a ziploc or vacuum seal bag with whatever seasoning you like, then in the water. You brown the meat afterwards and it's supposed to be super tender and amazing.

I'm sorry you've had a bumpy road this far and glad that you're on the far side of surgery. Hope your transition to real food goes smoothly!

❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤
Yesterday was a bit of a write off for me... church, cooked a turkey for the fam (using some of the leftovers for freezer meals for them), and just lazed around. Didn't get my steps or push ups so I'm trying to make up for that today. Day 5 - garden. Not planting my balcony container garden this year. I might pick up some herbs later in the season when they're on sale. Can't imagine a summer without a big bunch of basil. Day 6 - talk to a friend. I have a weightloss buddy who is starting a new program today. Planning a phone call to check in on her and offer some encouragement.

May 2019
So, I had a horrible nightmare last night. I dreamt that I had an appointment with a surgeon (not my surgeon), a sort of final prep appointment. She did an examination of my abdomen and declared that I wasn't a candidate for surgery and that she would never would have suggested it for me. She said I should never have been in the bariatric program and I wouldn't be allowed to have the surgery. She was really quite mean about it. In the dream I went to my regular surgeon (who didn't look at all like my surgeon) and asked him why he had let me go through 2 years of prep only for me to be disapproved at the last minute. He said that he gets paid for everyone in the program, whether they have surgery or not. When I woke up I was so upset, it felt soooooo real. It was a solid 15 minutes of being awake before it sank in that it was only a dream. You think my poor brain is trying to process my anxiety and nerves? Lol

Ok, liquid diet has been kicking my behind today. I confess to licking the spoon after dishing up mashed potatoes tonight for the rest of the fam. And I may or may not have inhaled a small crumble of meatloaf. *hangs head*

No vinyl or 8-track, although I remember them fondly. I still own one cassette, that has lived in my junk drawer for years and years, a friend's demo tape that I will never part with, even though I have no way to play it. And I still have a few cds... although more audiobooks than music CD.

From a very young age (under 2yo I think) I have been very phobic about birds... anything with feathers and anything that flies as I often say. They freak me out the way some folks are scared of spiders or heights. The good news is, I can handle all kinds of creepy critters, so long as they don't fly.

Day 4 - have an early night Normally I'd giggle a bit at this, because a normal night means I'm in bed by 9:30. Any earlier and I'd be in the same bedtime range as my wee-lings (they do go to bed earlier than 9, but they rarely are asleep much before then). All that said, I probably could go to bed earlier tonight as my darling husband's snoring was particularly loud last night so I was up half the night. 1 of 3 walking workouts done, along with my push ups. I do wall push ups, and every day I've been inching my way down the wall to increase the angle and difficulty.

Excessively long clear liquid phase
Which surgery did you have? At my clinic, sleeve patients have post-OP clear liquids for quite a while, whereas bypass patients start right on full liquids right after surgery.

May 2019
Right? I've been waiting for so long for this and now it's getting super real. Pre-op diet phase 2 is working well. Down 5lb in 2 days. Cooking for my family is challenging but not as bad as I thought it would be. One big thing that's messing with my head is the fact that IT'S BEEN SNOWING ALL WEEK!! When I got my surgery date back in March, I had envisioned spring. Waking up to fresh snow every day is messing with my plan to be outside walking every day. The weather is supposed to get back to seasonal on Monday, but this is absurd even for Alberta. Anywho... May the 4th be with you all!

The 'Skinny' on drinking with meals and weight loss after surgery
I've been following the no drinking with meals rule for a few months now, as it came up in one of my classes with my dietitian. I've struggled to explain why this is important to my friends and family and this helps a lot. Thank you!

Geeky newbie here!
Harry Potter, LotR, Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly GoT, a bit of Marvel... I could go on and on! Lol
