jacon reacted to Aaron L. Shaw in Here I grow AgainHere I grow again!
I had surgery three years ago. It was a roller coaster ride, like everyone else. I did the pure liquid no carb pre op diet. I underwent surgery and after the initial feeling of having been through a bar fight, came out the other side ready to go! I was compliant with the whole thing, It was an amazing experience as the weight seemed to just melt off. . . until it didn't.
I got down to about 250 pounds and hit a very long plateau. In response I went to the gym. . . A LOT. I managed to drop down to 210 pounds and decided to go in for skin removal surgery. Things went backwards from there. The plastic surgeon was HORRIBLE. He didn't place a drain, I developed a seroma the size of a pringles can (1 liter) and had an incision infection. The seroma kept filling up even after I went to a general surgeon to have it cleaned out and a drain placed. I was not able to exercise because of the pain.
Old habits die hard. I became sedentary again, and I've gained back up to 257 pounds. Bad eating habits. A non supportive spouse. Too many carbs. Not enough exercise. Seroma is still there.
I went back to my PCP yesterday and weighed in. Much to my horror I was at 257. When I looked at my weight history, 30 pounds of that has slowly crept up since January of this year.
Compliance cannot be overstated. I went out and bought protein bars and yogurt. I'm cutting out any and all alcohol, and back to counting carbs. Since I'm a full time law student (at 46 years old with six kids at home) finding time to exercise regularly can be a challenge. Today I'm going to work some time after class into my schedule to go to the university's gym for at least 45 minutes to an hour each day (I have class 3 days a week).
I didn't go down this long, and difficult road just to wind up back where I started. Glad to find this forum

jacon reacted to J San in Am I the only one?BTW I read through this post a few days back
It bothered me quite a bit how the women were responding and not giving 2 $hits. There were some responses that were deleted so I don't know what sparked the whole thing but two years after a woman still had to have the last word and post a response. Nothing to do with the original topic/question but still had to pop in. Why do some people feel it entitled to but in and give their opinion when no one asked for it?

jacon reacted to Matt Z in Am I the only one?Personally, I respect the rules. It says "no men" in the women's room.. so I don't post or reply there. Just because someone CAN do something, doesn't mean they SHOULD do something. It's a respect thing, but I guess not everyone seems to care, I'll joke around and point it out to some members posting in the Guys' room... but I've seen others ask women not to post, or let them know it's the guys room... and they just don't care.
To me. It's about the rules and the respect in following the rules.

jacon reacted to TakingABreak in ONEderland...blessed!8 months post op. Hitting ONEderland is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone for being so supportive throughout this journey. This community has truly been one of the biggest drivers of positivity and my commitment to the process. On to the next goal!

jacon reacted to summerset in When did you start counting carbs and exercisingAfter being on this board since a whole while I can't help but getting the impression that a good portion of this "being overwhelmed" feeling is self-inflicted.
People start with the best intentions ("some rules") to "get everything the best way that is out there" but they end up creating something in their minds that seems more like the big mother of all bureaucratic system-of-rules-monsters.

Remember that the first little bit postop is the hardest, then you start melting away and it is all worth it!

jacon reacted to TakingABreak in Gastric Bypass-No Weight LostPlease don't stress about this. I stalled out after I got home from the hospital as well. In fact, I didn't lose much at all my first month and now I'm 7 months post op, down 132lbs. Your body essentially goes into starvation mode after your pre op diet and your first few weeks. I didn't find the loss picked up until I was back to eating a "normal" bariatric diet. This too shall pass, and this is NOT indicative of how your long term success will be.

jacon got a reaction from Auroragirl4489 in Yay! My Surgery is This Morning! So my surgery went very well they said! I was a little worried this morning, because my surgeon was around an hour late. I was so worried that my surgery was going to be postponed til a later date, but he showed up. My stomach is a little sore right now, but I’ve been getting great rest since the surgery, so hopefully that will speed up my recovery. And to everyone still waiting for their surgery date, I wish you the best of luck and the day will be here before you know it! -

jacon reacted to Frustr8 in Yay! My Surgery is This Morning! And @ Jacob I trust you are still doing well, today. Many people say that the 3rd post surgery day is the worst.,Most of your surgery meds has worn off and you start to worry that maybe this wasn't a good idea. But stay strong, there beautiful days ahead for you! -
The Sleeve only gives you a short window to change your eating habits before regain is a possibility. At Six months out I thought I had it mastered and could introduce small amounts of Carbs and Sugar back into my diet but Once a month turns into once a day and then you find your self on the road to where you started. I have faith in you and Hope you realize that no food tastes as good as being Healthy. This is just my Personal experience but it is one that I see posted on this forum day after day. I fight regain daily and have come to realize that I have to keep choosing Healthy over that warm fuzzy lethargic feeling that comes after I have ate something that I know I shouldn't.

jacon reacted to The Preacher in Prayer! If you do not believe in prayer, do not click on this post..I have been praying about this, and really feel led to do it.
I have been criticized for sharing my faith in Jesus Christ on this website, I truly do respect others feelings because it certainly is their right to believe or not to believe, even God does not force one to believe in Him, it must be of one's own free will.
I feel deeply that there are some on here that would love to be prayed for, before surgery, during surgery and after surgery, so here's what I am willing to do, if I can be of some comfort to anyone, please email me at brotherron98@gmail.com
I assure you that I do have a personal and close relationship with the Lord, he does and always has answered my prayers, and I'm sure as long as I walk in his ways, he will continue to answer them, so please if I can help you in any way, email me.
Sincerely, The Preacher.

jacon reacted to jultrim18 in Yay! My Surgery is This Morning!I am so glad that everything went well! I felt the exact same way! I was not in a lot of pain, I walked around the hospital unit, and I slept a lot. You might have a bit more pain at home because the nurses are not always providing you with medicine; however, it truly is not so terrible. I hope you do not suffer diarrhea like I did. I got it right after the x-ray drink and putting liquids in my belly. It's terrible. I really want to use depends lol. I cannot wait to start solids! Good luck fellow sleever!
