What did you do with your old clothing? AND clothing goals?
I have gone through some of my clothing and i;ve already gotten a big bag of stuff to give away. Mostly stuff I won't wear or jeans that don't fit anymore. I'd love to give them to someone who is doing bariatric surgery and needs just a few things or so to tide em over while they lose weight. Does anyone know of a place like that? Also.... What is your clothing goal? that one thing you want to wear or size that'll be the ah ha moment? For me, being a music junky, I can't wait to wear band t-shirts. I've only been to one concert(Green Day) but most bands I like don't seem to have plus size shirts. My goal is a xl t-shirt. I need to buy one. I know i'll cry like a baby when I reach that goal. lol

This pre-op diet stinks. Major whine
The first two to three days were really smooth. I had the pangs of hunger at first but now...ending of day four...i'm really hungry for a few crackers. Insanely hungry for them LOL My stomach has been topsy turvy(hence wanting crackers). Last night it just went wild in a bad way. Were you able to go out much in the week before surgery? My stomach is really giving me issues today and i've had to stay close to home. I have to go to my niece's events in the next two days. Just a wee bit nervous. I am however not really doubting my choice. I do have fears...lots of em...but i'm ready to put myself first for once. Hope everyone is having a great night!

Day 4 Bariatric Advantage
i'm on day two and a half. I've had a difficult day. My mom made herself a hamburger. I'm not mad at her! BUT...it is so hard to smell that and know I have a protein shake or broth to turn to for lunch. I got a little bit of a late start on my pre-op due to insurance stuff(It was denied on a tuesday and approved on Friday morning). It is a rough time. I've been meditating a lot. Focused breathing helps me a lot. Music, loud music, has also helped keep my mind busy. I also make chainmaille so that keeps the hands busy most of the time I can do it. Knowing it gets easier is a great relief.

Liquid Diet and Diabetes Type 2
I started my pre-op liquid diet today. I have already lowered my meal time insulin by 10 units and had a low even after that. I am also almost out of test strips and can't get it refilled until the 6th. I'm not really hungry as of now. I feel a bit nauseated but i'm still plugging along. As of right now it isn't as hard as I thought it'd be. For me the getting started is always the hardest part. I am going to buy a super cheap meter tomorrow to keep an eye on it. Do any of you have tips for when I have a low and what to eat for that? I've got some bone broth, which honestly I don't like...made it myself. Just blah. Other broths, jello and protein drinks.

Premier Protein Clear
Agreed, I found them very sweet as well. I'm still pre-op but i can't really stomach them at this point.

It's a go! + premier protein info
Thank you! Good luck to you as well!

It's a go! + premier protein info
First up I finally was approved for surgery! I got a call Wednesday that it was denied. My doctor must of given em hell as I got the call this morning that they reversed the decision and my surgery is indeed on March 14th! Whoa! Also wanted to share a sale on premier protein shakes at Sam's Club. They are 12.66 for a 12 pack. There is a limit of three per member which sucks but still worthy if you use them. They have a lot of protein type products on sale too. It started on the 28th and I do believe runs until the 25th of March.

Any March 2018 Sleevers?
My tentative date is March 14th. Waiting for final approval. It's been a heck of a long road.

Can we talk about boobs and bras?
I have no hope, if mine do indeed shrink then they'll be in the negative letters. As it stands I am the only female in the family without major boobage. I haven't been able to find bras at all that fit me now. I have to wear a sports bra I hate as they need a little smoothing down. I am not upset but I get called sir a lot and that doesn't feel to great most of the time lol

Is the second date the one?
Wow, that's awesome! Congrats! My a1c is usually around 6.1-6.3 I was so bummed about it going up but it lit a fire for me.

Is the second date the one?
I was originally scheduled for surgery December 22nd of last year. It was denied at the last minute. I have a rescheduled tentative date for March 14th 2018. I am more hopeful. The plan is for the VSG. I should find out this week for sure if it'll happen then. The reason I was denied? My a1c was deemed to good(6.1%) and my other numbers were not bad enough. Despite the fact that I weigh 330 -/+ at any given time AND i've been that weight for a few years. I have tried in vain to lose weight. Well thanks to a few reasons(medication change and holiday eating) my a1c jumped to 7.2%. My blood pressure measures fairly high when I visit the surgeon. He, along with my other medical folks, were shocked I was denied. I think of it this way...I got the short straw that day. I was very upset but I do believe things happen, or not, for a reason. My surgeon really has fought for me to get approval, he and his staff have been really great. I just wanted to say hello again!

Yay!
I had my consultation appointment moved up to today instead of late FEB. Whoa was I nervous! No sleep for the weekend pretty much. Well I saw the surgeon today and he thinks I'll do wonderfully with the sleeve! I am so thrilled! I had also started the classes a bit early so he is thinking about 3-5 months out from today is when my surgery will be. I am so thrilled and the doctor is wonderful and very nice. I was worried, as I always seem to be, about everything. That i'd get told no and on and on. I also found out from a at home test that my a1c is now 6.1! He was very happy about that. I am just so over the moon! I know this will be a hard and well fought journey and I now know that the doctor is awesome and his staff is awesome. Really put me at ease! I am ready to fight for a healthy me. I know I can and will do this! Thank you to those that share your success and mis-steps. it is inspiring to have the honesty that I have found on this and other site!

What do you wish you'd asked at the Consultation
I just realized in my excitement I posted to the wrong forum!

What do you wish you'd asked at the Consultation
My appointment for my consultation was supposed to be in late February. Well, I got a call yesterday that they had a cancelation....now it's this coming MONDAY! I had to say YES! I am a little freaked out and feel unprepared. I plan on taking notes and what not and the questions I can think of. I would like to pick y'alls brains about what you wish you'd asked and what you DID ask. I've been to two classes so far but my mind is drawing blanks. I am super excited and super, super nervous. Any advice and tips are highly appreciated!

A first hello and questions.
You are so right on! I really couldn't agree more. It is part of the puzzle that is me. Most of my family is very supportive. Those that don't I don't have much to do with due to various reasons. My brother doesn't really know I have the appointment already but he is chilly to talk with anytime lol A man of few words. I think he supports me but sometimes it is hard to tell. I am cheering for you! You got this! Wishing you all the success in the world!

A first hello and questions.
I have seen in a few times as well. One of my cousins and her husband were involved with it while she went to school at WT It is indeed a big state. Amarillo is getting to big for my liking, I like smaller town living myself but I am blessed to be here where I can get surgery through Texas Tech.

Pre-Op weight loss, how much is to much?
I don't see the surgeon for the first time until late February of 2018. I want to lose some weight before that but i'm also afraid of losing to much! I am being weighed at the classes I am attending so they know my starting weight. Right now my BMI is over 40 and I am afraid if it drops below that I won't qualify. I still plan on controlling my diet no matter what to keep my A1c good. What was y'alls experience with this? It is just something i've been worried about. Thanks!

What are your favorite workouts???
I am a big fan of biking. I live in an area that isn't conducive to doing it outside so I have a stationary recline bike that I used 2-3 times a week. Usually at least 30 mins. I try to do intervals on it. I also try to get 5,500 steps a day at this point. Will be adding more and more.

A first hello and questions.
Thank you so much for the replies! I know this is the right thing for me. The meds I have to take make it hard to lose weight. I also have a handful of people I know that have been through both the gastric bypass and the sleeve. I do not know yet which procedure i'll be having so it is so great to have this forum to know about options and just the mere amount of information is mind boggling! In a good way of course! I want to be around for my nieces and nephew. BUT Mostly I want to be happy. I know that weight with or without it isn't the determining factor for happiness. I want to do something for me. After a life of mostly doing for others I am finally going to do something for myself. I've been on the back burner for long enough! Am I scared? You bet! I am so ready for this though. SO very ready. Thanks again!

A first hello and questions.
First off, hello! My names Melody and I am from the Texas Panhandle region. I have been reading for a few weeks and hope this is the right place to post this. If not i'll happily delete and move to the right forum. I've been to my first class but found out that my first appointment with the surgeon is in February. Long way off! Was hoping for sooner but i'll take this chance to learn as much as possible. Trying really hard to see it as a blessing! So far I am doing really well. Here is some info on me: I've been overweight my entire adult and teen life. I am now 36 and i'm morbidly obese. Why is that so hard to say? I also am Bi-polar and have severe social anxiety(which it makes it hard for me to post). I have the ok from my PCP and psych doctor. I have type 2 diabetes that has been controlled very well for five + years. My A1c is currently 6.2! I have struggled to lose any weight. I am eating what I should and exercising but the weight just doesn't budge. My PCP and me had a serious discussion and we both brought up WLS and talked it over. We both agreed to get the referral and set out on this long journey. My questions are pretty mundane. Do you feel like you have had to let certain friends behind? I am having an issue with my "friends" that are looking down on me for even scheduling the appointment. They think i'm lazy. Also have had friends that seem resentful that I can even get it done(lets face it...it can be turned down at any point so nothing is a guarantee.) I am struggling with this. Not enough to stop this journey. I am finally going to take care of me instead of others first all the time. Did your taste change drastically? I want to try some of the protein shakes and such before my surgery to see if I like them. IS that good idea? You are all so inspiring!
