My surgery was 2 years ago and I'm 90 lbs down, a size 8/10, healthy and fabulous. I eat whole organic foods, I exercise and have found that most of the time I'm very happy. (minus some heartburn issues). GOOD LUCK and keep the faith. Your shopping experiences are about to get seriously fun!!!
  2. I was just reading your 5K stats - that's AWESOME!!! I hate to run but am forcing myself, I thought 3 miles in 39 minutes was pretty good!!! I did a triathalon 5 years back and am trying to get myself back into it by Spring. You are doing so great with your weight loss I'm sooo imperssed. I was banded in July, 11 months ago, and have only lost 57 lbs. It took until about November for me to even feel restricted. Anyway - great job you're doing and I know that by the 4th you are going to be totally sassy!!!
  3. You are HILARIOUS!!! Love all of those ideas!!! I made it ... I made it ... I can't believe it. Thank you so much for your support! For some strange reason I thought it would never happen.
  4. Looking for ideas that go past manicure, massage, etc. Something that I will have forever ... any ideas?

I am 5'6" too ... I stuffed 3 rolls of quarters in my bra & drank a liter of water to "make weight"!!! I added 7 lbs. doing that. If you're close you can try it!
  6. HI! I'm relatively new to this forum and have not been banded yet so I can not give you any advice on that but this will work for you. It will because you are going to make that choice for yourself. Give yourself, and your body, some time. You're brain is going 100 mph and your body is probably about 25 mph!!! You've lost 11 lbs already - thats GREAT! Start reading the posts and learn ... learn ... learn ... as much as you can. You will be successful because you are beautiful [i can see your picture] and smart [because you're here!] and have a lot to offer everyone you know. Do I know you? Nope. Don't need to. But I know you can do it. We all can. Give yourself permission to accept your body's pace and to catch up to the rest of you. I hope that helps. Just keep reading here, type in a journal every day because in 3 months you are going to reflect back on this and think ... I DID IT!!!!
  7. I just realized, through my "mydailyplate.com" journal that a Panera Cinnamon Crunch bagel has 410 calories & 75g carbs. HOLY MOLY. And that's before the tub of cream cheese I put on it. D'oh. We then proceeded to go to lunch for a coworker but I was good at Macaroni Grill. I had the Skinny Chicken. It was actually pretty good. But then dinner comes along and I had a cheeseburger, fries & split a turtle sundae with the hubster. Oh man. I'm so stuck in this JUSTIFICATION of eating it now before I will never be able to eat it again. I'm sure lots of people on this site have gone through this ... I just hope it''s not a message that I'm not ready. Today is Saturday. Weekends are so much harder being home then it is at work. I have to go make french toast for the kids. Sigh.

  9. I love mydailyplate.com LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT ! I too read about it in a forum and joined right away. Did you know that a Panera Cinnamon Crunch bagel was 410 calories & 75g carbs? HECK NO I DIDNT - but I do now after I plugged it in so I ate a very good lunch to compensate. What a great tool.
  10. I know it's been a while ... but did the quarters in the bra work!?!?!
  11. I'm all set. All tests complete. Now I wait. Beaumont said that it's about a 1 month wait for the psych eval to come back. I'm not sure how considering all I did was pay $200 to fill in some circles. Oh well. Hopefully it will not take that long. I've been good on my psudo-preop diet. I took the suggestion of another blogger and started to log my food onto mydailyplate.com It's AWESOME!!! I feeling good ... and on track ... and not overwhelmed at the thought of 'never being able to eat again'.

  13. That is a great idea. I am going to call them today! THANKS!!!
  14. Yeah, I ran one in 2004 at the University of Tennessee. I had back surgery and when I came home from the hospital I said that's it! I'm getting my butt in gear. I did it at 213 lbs. and felt like I could have ruled the world that day. It was AWESOME! Although I hate to run. The exercise consultant couldn't figure that one out. Apparently I'm way to stuppord to realize that I hated it that much! haha So. Let's do it again! Let's do it! I haven't even been banded yet, what about you? How far down the road are you with this?
  15. I will have the last of my scheduled appointments tomorrow [heart ultrasound & oxygen test] and nobody has asked for my proof of my previously medically supervised diet. I'm getting concerned because my last appointment was Nov. 04. I called BCBS and they require in the last 4 year. Well, I started in July 03 but ended in Nov. 04. Oh boy, I'm starting to get stressed now. How did you validate your supervised diet?
  16. My very first day on my new diet from the dietician - I'm still pre-op - and it went very well. I went to the grocery store and I purchased some celery, beets, strawberries, mangos, cantelope, jar or almonds, soy milk and a ton of Kashi cereal. It was actually nice to shop for healthy items! Who knew! I think it's just the control thing. I'm beginning to take control over what has always had control over me! I purchased some disposable containers, cut up everything, portioned it out for work and have it all in the frig already. All I need to do is grab it before I leave. Yea me! I did my 1200 cal diet today and I was struggling this afternoon because I was pretty hungry and couldn't eat anything! So I'm actually prepared for tomorrow's work day & eating schedule. I go to the heart ekg & ultrasound tomorrow morning. Hope all that goes well and then I'm done with all my appointments. I believe then it's time to submit.

  18. Well, had my psych evaluation, exercise & nutritional sessions today. Psych: Paid $200 while she watched me fill in circles on a form. She was nice but I felt that they were only weeding out people that would possibly sue the surgeons later afterwards. I felt that it was in place for the hospital and not the well being of the patients. I really could care less - until I had to write the check!!! The other thing I thought was weird is that she didn't shake my hand upon greeting me or at the end of the seession. Now, I work for a top 3 automotive company and I suppose I'm just use to gretting peole that way so it but I thought it was really strange. I kept looking around like ... should I extend my hand? She the authoritiy figure ... but she made a point not to even be in the position to shak it. Weird.:confused2: Exercise Session: Good but nothing earth shattering. Here's a pedometer walk 10,000 steps and exercise 3 times a week. Exercise chick did not shake my hand. Nutritional Session: Fine. Again, not a whole lot of new information just a "typcial" 1200 cal diet to follow until the 2 week pre-op. Suprise - no shaking of the hand. Is that weird? I just don't understand how PROFSSIONAL people could not shake your hand upon greeting you. I don't get it. Germaphobs? Anyway, I have to admit I was suprised and a little disappointed by the entire experience. But then I have to think that they see soooo many people that I don't know if it could be any other way. It was MY big decision day - for them it was just another day.

  20. Will do!!! That is what so great about this site the support is [as my Maine newphew would say] Wicked Cool! So you've lost 10 lbs. just on the pre-op? AWESOME! You must be so proud of yourself! I'm getting anxious to move that stupid ticker myself .... I fell like I'm all talk and now action. I need to get my butt in gear. I'm struggling this weekend with ... well, I'm about to seriously eliminate my food intake so just go for it and eat what ever you want! Not good.
  21. Well I'm sure I don't know what I'm talking about that's why I'm so confused. But with all the million diets that I've been on I can just recall a zillion times hearing that you need to eat at least 1200 calories to maintain your metabolism so it doesnt "shut down" - like with liquid diets. I'm seeing the dietician tomorrow so I'm sure I will get some more answers tomorrow. I will be sure to keep post them.
  22. My best friend WORKS for the hospital that will do the surgery and they are requiring her to do 12 months! D'OH! She's not very happy about it and I'm not either she was suppose to be my band-buddy!
  23. There is one thing my brain can not wrap around and that is how is it that your metabolism not go into a nosedive? How can you be on beef broth for weeks and have yoru metabolism go to hell? I'm sure that is where the exercise comes in but I'm just not understanding how that can be effective [the non eating not the exercising]...? So I gues my question is ... DOES your metabolism nose dive?:confused2: I have my first nutritional appt. tomorrow and plan on asking them but I guess I wanted the truth from you guys first!!!!!
  24. When I think back to 2002 and how modivated I was [i had back surgery & realized I needed to lose the weight] - I weighed 268 lbs. I came back from the hospital after my surgery and decided I was going to run a thiathelon which had been a life goal. I never in a million years would have thought I would ever be that modivated. I went to the gym 5 days a week for 2 hours and never cheated on my diet for 18 months straight. Even with that I couldn't break the 200's it was soooo frustrating. But I kept my positive attitude and loved feeling healthy and athletic. I would rather be buff and athletic then skinny any day of the week. Paris Hilton, ew!?!? I would rather look like a swimmer or tennis player. But you made me realize something - it was totally my attitude. Every day I kept a journal and when things got rough I began to mandiate myself to writing down 2 things: Why am I doing this? and What do I love about myself today? I am going to start doing that again. Why am I doing this? Because I want to be proud of my body What do I love about myself today? I think I'm a great mom.
  25. Well, I have my psych, diet & exerise appointments tomorrow and my ekg/heart thingie on Wedensday and then I should be able to submit to insurance. I'm very excited about all of it. Of course I get nervous about the stories that people haven not only not lost weight but have gained it back and then some. Which I just don't understand. How can you gain weight when you can only eat 1/4 cup at a time? Makes me very nervous. I just suppose it's up to the individual but then that makes me worry even more! I've lost and gained HUNDREDS of lbs, why will this be differnt. When I ran my triathelon I was 213 lbs. and had lost 55 lbs. Well, I said I would NEVER gain that weight back. Never say never because here I am. In 5 years I haven't gained it all back but most of it and the very thought of RUNNING 3 miles on a treadmill is freaking me out. I did all of that while not working but now I work full-time with 3 kids [9/7/5] and there is no way I can spend 2 hrs at the gym everyday. Plus I hate to exercise!!! So, I think I'm with everyone else. I know this is the next step ... but will it work? I worked my ASS off to get from 268 down to 203 and could never break into the 100's. It got to the point that I was burning muscle for energy because I wasn't eating enough! Never say that to a fatty! Then I started to eat more and apparently have never stopped. Sigh. I'm lucky in the sense that my husband of 15 years is very supportive :w00t: and is always there for me but he's the go-along-with-the-flow kinda guy and he would NEVER say, hey toots put that twinkie down and go for a bike ride!! Sometimes he's to supportive!!!
