  3. Thank you outsidematchinside! Its good to know about the hair issue! Like meeseemcmeesee, im not opposed to wearing wigs if it comes to that. Im having my surgery mostly to get rid of my diabetes & losing the weight is a Big bonus!?
  4. Hello All! Im new this site. Im a 62 yr old AA california women. My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 1, 2017. My current weight is 211. My goal weight is to get no smaller than 160-150 range, otherwise I would look sickly. I noticed this site has been around since 2011 with over 450 comments. Due time Im not able to read most of the comments. However, im happy to read the issues we face as an AA culture that others may not have dell with! I too am not looking forward to loosing my hair. Its long but is thin & i wear it mostlr natural. I have to tame the gray hair around my edges by using a little relaxer but otherwise im natural. I guess that comes with old age![emoji4] I have 1 daughter who was sleeved 2 months ago & she said her hair is getting thicker! But she has worn her hair short & natural since b4 her surgery. But my younger Sister had her sleeve done 8 months ago & has experienced lost hair. Its just now starting to grow back but she has come to love the short hair look! Im not sure if I or my husband ( of 43 yrs) would want me to wear my hair short after surgery! [emoji53] Im looking forward to reading more experiences on this AA site hopefully some from Cali as well! Bye, Bye for now![emoji113] Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app

  7. Hi Emma! My name is Niseys4. Both my daughter & sister had WLS. They were encouraged by their Drs to get up & walk soon after waking up from recovery. It helps with the gas you will have & to help prevent blood clots! My surgery is not till Nov 1st!?. Lots of walking is very important. Bed rest only when your tired.
  8. Hello Cassiegirl No I understand that's normal after surgery. I was with my daughter who had her surgery 2 months ago & she was very gassy! I had to burp her like I use to do when she was a baby

  12. That's great news! I got my date yesterday but I have to wait till Nov 1, 2017?
  13. I finally meet with my Kaiser Fontana surgeon after attending the WL class back in April of this year. Now I have to wait another 4 1/2 months ,Nov. 1,2017, to get my surgery! This is do to the shortage of bariactric surgeons & the high volume of people getting this surgery! Im not complaining of the long wait though because this gives me more time to firm up my skin on my arms & legs!
  14. Wow! That's great news! I wish you all the best & good health to you,!
  15. Hello everyone! Im from California & I see my surgeon tomorrow.(6-20-17) I have 2 questions; 1) any suggestions i should ask him? & 2) how long after seeing the surgeon will i get a surgery date?
  16. You can do it! Just remember its only hard because you haven't had the surgery yet. Once you have the VGS the liquid diet will be filling! Plus you need to do this so you can remain qualified to have the surgery!
  17. I too was told gummed are not good. Something about them having Too much sugar or doesn't digest well. Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Hello my name is Denise. I live in California. I'm on a journey to have the Bariatric sleeve. I currently weigh 211 & I'm 5' 1/2". I have struggled with trying to lose weight for about 36 yrs now. That the age of my youngest child.[emoji38] Even though I have been going to the gym for 2 yrs it wasn't until I learned that excercise is only 20% of losing weight.[emoji34] so i joined a Healthy Balance class offered by my Kaiser Ins. That's when I really started to lose the weight. The surgery is so that I can get rid of the diabetes medz and be a more healthy 62yrs old. Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. I wasn't going to have the surgery because I was losing weight naturally since attending the Healthy Balance class Givin by Kaiser. But when I saw the Bariatric Dr ( NOT the surgeon) he explained to me how my diabetes can get worse the longer I have it an that having the surgery can cause my diabetes to go into remission. He used a very sensible illustration of termites being confined in 1 part of my house & how I may be okay with that and not being willing to pay the money to get rid of them. But what if of those termites started to move out from that spot? Now you will have to pay more money than you would have if you would've takin care of it when it was just a small area that was infected. He helped me to appreciate that I should focus more on the health benefits of the surgery than the weight loss part! Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app
