  1. I had my surgery on 3/23 and I am really struggling to get in my Protein. I literally gag on every Protein Drink I try. I did okay on the preop diet with the protein, but now I cannot get it down!! I have tried vanilla and chocolate and even bought powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored and tried mixing it with juice and still cannot get it down. It literally makes me gag. I have also tried Muscle Milk Cookies and Cream, Odwalla Protein drinks and Slim Fast low carb. I tried doctoring them up with Frozen Fruit and such but still no luck! Any suggestions from others that have a hard time with the protein supplements? I can eat soft foods now so I try not to eat anything now that doesn't have protein but I'm still not getting enough protein.
  2. I haven't tried the Isopure. I may have to check that out. I've seen a few posts where people like it. Thanks for the info.
  3. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Getting a little dehydrated can make you feel really lousy and nauseous.
  4. That sounds promising. I'll check that out. Thanks!
  5. I do have a blender and Magic Bullet (absolutely love the Bullet). Thanks for the suggestions.
  6. I was banded 3/23 and based on my surgeon's nutrition information I am on pureed foods. I tired to blend some things but really couldn't get it down. I'm sticking to things like eggs (egg salad, deviled eggs, scrambled), refried beans, mashed potatoes, chicken salad, tuna salad. I just make sure I chew, chew, chew and don't eat too much and I haven't had any problems so far.

This is SO Confusing! Aetna in Virginia

If your insurance is through your employer, it is possible that the state code will not apply. It depends on the type of funding your plan has. Take the CPB to your physician and have them review and contact Aetna.
  8. Hi all....I was banded 3/23 and since I started the preop diet on 3/13 I've lost about 23 pounds. This week I've been dealing with an infected incision and had to start antibiotics. Hope it heals soon! I am on mushy stuff now and not having any problems. I have been eating very little though and am not sure how much restriction I actually have. I stop eating mainly for fear that I might eat too much and wind of hurting. I don't get hungry very often and at times must remind myself to eat. I never thought that would be possible! I am a little worried that I might not be getting enough Protein in. It's nice to see the updates of those banded around the same time!
  9. Certainly check with your Dr. My doc's instructions were to be on full liquids the 1st two weeks but when I went back for my one week check up and told him I was tired of what I was eating already, he approved me to have cottage cheese, applesauce and anything with the applesauce consistency. You might get a nice surprise if you ask!
  10. My surgery was this past Monday and it seems like the past few days I've felt pretty good all day long but in the evening I start to not feel so well. Did anyone else experience this? Also, could I be drinking too much in one sitting? I have been drinking an 8 oz glass of skim milk with protein powder and can almost finish it. I was wondering if that might be too much.

    Post-Op Incisions

I'm two weeks out tomorrow and my port incision is also sore to the touch. The others seem okay, just this one is bothering me, especially with clothes rubbing against it. I also still have quite a bit of swelling.
  12. I was banded 3/23 and have lost just under 20 lbs with the preop diet. I'm having a problem with my clothes being too tight in the belly and it must be from swelling. These clothes fit before surgery!! The legs of my pants are way big but everything is tight across the hips, belly and butt. How long did it take for your swelling to go down?
  13. I had surgery last Monday and am going back tomorrow. I went to the Dr today and he was pleased with my progress...8 lbs lost since surgery and 10 lbs lost on preop diet. However, I was just trying to find something in my closet to wear tomorrow and everything seems tight!!! I guess the swelling is more than I thought it was....not sure what to do now!!
  14. I've lost a total of 17 pounds since I started the preop diet 10 days before my surgery. Only 4 pounds have been lost since my surgery. With my protein shakes I'm averaging about 400-500 calories a day.
  15. I wish I could have cream of wheat or applesauce.....not until the next phase though. Right now it's just creamy soups, protein shakes, skim milk and the clear liquids. Thanks for the ideas for the protein shakes and pudding/crystal light. I'll try those.
  16. Thank you all for the encouragement. I was beginning to think what the heck have I done to myself! I'm getting about 50 grams of protein a day and my doc recommends 60-80 so maybe I need to kick it up. I am just so tired of those darn liquid shakes. I get nauseous just thinking about having another. Oh well, I guess I'm whining now!

    Stomach Numbness?

Thank you all for the replies and reassurance.
  18. I had surgery on 3/23 and have some numbness in my stomach just to the left of my belly button. Has anyone else experienced this?
  19. I had my surgery on 3/23 and the Dr. everything went fine. I haven't been hungry much at all. Today I had a Carbmaster Vanilla Yogurt, about 1/4 cup tomoto/basil soup, a chocolate protein shake and a Creamy Chicken soup at hand. Just wondering if this sounds like about the right intake for a new bandster? I'm still having some pain in my shoulder and also some pain when I take deep breaths.

    Last steps before my jump!

My original surgery date was in November but I got scared and told myself I would give Weight Watchers one more try. Well, that didn't last very long. I am having surgery tomorrow morning. My regret now is that I didn't go ahead with it in November because I would be well on my way if I had.

    Help Please

    Thank you for the support.
  22. Okay, this is probably TMI but here goes. I am scheduled for surgery at 7:15 in the morning. I have been on the preop diet for 10 days. I had totally forgotten that I was supposed to do Milk of Magnesia today for a bowel prep at 10, 2 and 6. I just remembered and took the first dose at 3:15. If I am off schedule with this a bit do you think it will have an effect on my surgery?

    Help Please

Thank you so much! I appreciate the help. I'm already nervous enough about tomorrow's procedure I don't know how I could have forgotten this!!
  24. RM-thanks for the quick response. Okay, okay...I can do this. You're right, I don't want to come out from the anesthesia and find it was all for naught. At one point today I thought maybe lap band wasn't for me because this part really sucks! But long term I know it'll get better. Thanks for the encouragement.
  25. RestlessMonkey-what kind of preop diet were you supposed to be on? Did you stray just a little and they couldn't do the surgery? I'm on 5 protein shakes a day and can have SF jello. I'm been hungry the whole time and still have 2 more weeks. I feel kind of dizzy and nauseous and was thinking about having a slice of lunch meat or string cheese but am afraid it will negate what I have done the past week.
