    Less than 24-Hours

I had an awful first two days where I was definitely regretting this but it does get better! I'm only 2 weeks out and still struggling with some things but feel a million times better than I did at first. Hang in there!

    Complications

Hey, just wondering if you've had any blood work done while using Genepro? I'm 12 days out and struggling to get all my protein in without getting sick. I've seen all the controversy about it but went and bought some from GNC tonight and I'm actually tolerating it in some Crystal light.

    Insure Nutrition

Yeah that's what I read too, but not until after I got everything. I don't think I have a cap but I need to call and double check because I have monthly meds I need covered. I am pretty sure that my insurance won't cover the shakes since it doesn't even cover my vitamin d. I think they just threw it in since they make so much off the scar cream and the main reason us bariatric patients sign up at all is for the shakes.
  4. That stinks. I know I can't have pudding pre op but I can have everything post, except for the day before surgery and days 1-6, which are clear liquids only.
  5. I'll be on a liquid diet for two weeks before and then up to day 20 post op. I'll be stocking up on jello, SF pudding, yogurt, Crystal light, protein shakes and SF popsicles. I also bought the clear premier fruit punch drink and a protein broth powder (haven't tried either yet) and am trying to find an unflavored protein powder. And even though I don't like it, I bought some unsweetened applesauce.
  6. I just got my date today! I'm getting sleeved on August 9th. I'm 33, married, with one furbaby.

I just got 4 cases today. Hoping it's not too good to be true.

Did you tell them you were interested in the scar cream or just the protein shakes? I said yes to everything (I figured why not if insurance pays for it). Today I came home to 4 cases of shakes and the scar cream. Now I'm second guessing everything because other people have been saying it's some kind of scam. I was just reading another forum and someone said that it's really about the scar cream. If insurance will cover it they charge the insurance like $6,000 and throw in the shakes to get us to sign up. If you try to cancel the cream (some people have yearly limits that they met really fast due to the high cost of the cream) they stop sending the shakes. I'm going to call my Rx insurance company tomorrow and see what they say.

    #FitCouple?

Yes. We both qualify so no issues there. They cover 80% but our out of pocket max is $2,500, so that's what it will cost for both of us.

    #FitCouple?

Yes! My husband and I are both getting the surgery. Our surgeon even said he would do both of our operations the same day as long as we both get the sleeve, which is what we both want. I don't know if that will work out due to work schedules, but no matter what it will be nice to be a to support each other.

    Goal Weight?

I'm kind of in the same boat. The goal they gave me is 190, which is a little disappointing. My lowest adult weight was 132, which didn't last very long because I quickly went back to my old habits. I think I would be happy around 150, but the surgeon doesn't seem to think that's realistic. I'm 281 now.

    Compression Garments?

Thrombo-embolic deterrent hose. Support hose basically. They can be knee high or thigh high.

    April 18th Sleeve

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm a nurse too. Happy nurses week! I am hoping to only be off for two weeks since I've only been at this job for 3 months and don't have a lot of time off accrued yet. I work in an immunization clinic so I'm hoping it won't be too hard. I just have to bend a lot but I have an awesome MA who will help me out. The worst thing would be a kid kicking me in the stomach, which does happen, but I'll have to be extra careful.
  15. Im just starting out with my WLS journey and figure I'll post some info in case it's helpful to anyone else, since everyone else's stories and posts have been very helpful to me. I just left my first appointment with the surgeon. When I was first considering WLS I wanted the sleeve since it's less "severe" than the bypass, but once I started doing more research I didn't think I would be a good candidate due to my heartburn and reflux. After speaking with my doctor today he said that my reflux isn't bad enough to rule out the sleeve (it's well controlled with medication and diet changes and I never suffered with it until I gained all this weight) but that he would be fine doing either procedure. He wanted me to pick a procedure today (I can change my mind later) so I went with the sleeve. The difference in projected weight loss between the two comes out to be about 15 pounds for me (175 with RNY and 190 with sleeve). Both of those numbers are kind of disappointing to me, as I would like to be closer to 130-140, but I am confident that once I get going with the weight loss that I'll be able to increase my activity to help me lose even more. I'm not sure if that's realistic or not. Does anyone regret going with the sleeve instead of the bypass? A little background on me: I'm 33, 5'2.5", and currently weigh 281.3 pounds with a BMI of 50.6 (just high enough to get out of the 6 month supervised diet required by BCBS of MI). My highest weight that I know of was 288 the other day. Not sure where the 7 pounds went because I didn't change anything yet. The surgeon wants me to lose 15 pounds before surgery which seems very doable. I also have to get medical clearance and a letter of necessity from my PCP, psych evaluation, exercise evaluation, and (TMI) see my gyno since I haven't had a period since new years eve (not pregnant, just good old PCOS). I met with the NUT today and then made all of my appointments in my car before I left the office. I hope to have everything completed by the 31st, which is the date of my exercise evaluation. The surgeon said that I could possibly have surgery at the end of June, which would be awesome.

    Insurance approval

I have BCBS of MI too. My consultation with the surgeon is May 9th so I can't actually answer your question, but I read somewhere that they don't actually formally approve the surgery. They just tell the surgeon's office what the requirements are and it's up to them to make sure you meet them. I'm not for sure about this though. Where are you at in the process?
