    First problem...

sorry you had soem issues with someone so close to you. but this is YOUR decision and YOUR life. jsut as you cant live his life. just ignore him and let him know if its raised again, that you are very pleased and proud of your achievement and that you would prefer his support but if you dont have it then he should say nothing. his "lazy" comment is a cop out.. all of us here know how hard it is.. I believe you have done a great thing. theres nothing lazy aboty it, it certainly is hard work. all the best to you. as a foot note I havent told everyone some people dont understand how it works, but Ive gladly accepted their compliments on my weight loss. no need for them to know how i did it. just that i watch what i eat. I told my siblings, they dont all udnerstand it but were certainly pleased that i thought about it and made the right decision for ME.

I too felt strange, like i wasnt goign to hospital cos i was sick, nor was i having a baby! but I did say to myself this is gonna hurt, but IM strong and there will be pain medications, its only for a few days, and I CAN DO THIS. This is the first day of the rest of my (NEW) life! it will all be worth it, i Promise. write back and let us know how youre going. this group is so supportive, i couldnt have managed without it.best wishes

    calling melbournians!

my surgeon told me that i can only expect to lose 50% of what i really need to lose. he says thats the average. but i only read on here the good stories. people who have lost it all. a show of hands for those who are making it and those who dont think they will? if not, why do you think that is.
  12. i am also aussie was done on 24 april. so thats nearly five weeks ago. i have no idea how much weight ive lost as i dont have scales. I know i have lost two dress sizes though .. thats so cool! but looking forward to seeing the surgeon again on friday to get weighed see how Im going.. keep in touch. this site is so good! full of useful information. feeling good now but had a bit of pain for a week/ ten days. im ionto solid foods now and am starting to get hungry! maybe thats time for the first fill? I dont know how that works. not sure that i got enough information about that part of it before the surgery. but I guess I will find out.. did your drs tell you of any local support groups. this is the only website ive found? but i wouldnt mind a local group....
  13. hi all, we dont have canned meat in Australia apart from sardines, tuna and salmon, which i dont eat.. i made a lot of veg and blended them with poached chicken, . iput these in muffin tins and froze them. the ones which are made of the rubbery bendy material. i also made some with meatballs all mushed with the veg. it was so easy to just defrost one every nigth in the microwave, with a bit of extra milk or cheese to moisten or soften it again if necessary. I even blended some roast lamb with home made gravy. it was lovely even though it looked awful, tasted just like what the rest of my family was eating.. and that stage didnt last long at all, i just made up my mind that Id got through the surgery and it had to be done so i did it!

    When is your first fill?

hi! i want to know too! i dont feel that i was told enough about fills. i see the surgeon for first post surgery visit on friday may 30. which will be five weeks after the surgery. i asked the nurse will this be for fill and she said "depends" on what? i dont know... i can eat anything now as long as i chew really slowly.. havent had any vomiting or anything. does this change after the first fill?
  15. I paid $3000 for the surgeon which covers the operation and the appointsments for a long time to come.. BUt all the pre appointments, psych, respiratory test, sleep test, dietician etc, cost me nearly $1000 out of pocket, and now i have another $1000 out of pocket for blood tests, anaesthetist, medicines on discharge, one bill says GAS GAS GAS GAS GAS GAS $196. I already put them into Medicare/NIB and only got some back from NIB.. and not much.. i dont understand why Medicare and NIB hardly paid any of these, i thought they would be mostly covered??
  16. hi Nicole, im from Melbourne. and im about to start REAL food, after two weeks of liquids, then two weeks of mushies. good luck.. this forum is really really helpful. cheers
  17. i was banded 3.5 weeks ago. have no idea how much weight ive lost although i know i did lose about 4 kg on the two weeks of Optifast prior to surgery. the next two weeks were hard, as it took a while to be able to sit up and get up after the surgery.. then at last onto mushies.... but only 4 days to go of them.. im so looking forward to some toast and vegemite.. hope i can eat it. i feel a bit cut off almost lonely to a point. dont know what the fills are all about how long have to have them for.. and if i ever see another bowl of pumpkin soup again i might scream! just wanting to be able to live a "normal" life eating my choice, being able to shop for trendy clothes that arent tents... or polyester.. and to be able to do gardening/dancing/housework/ or sleeping.. whatever I want..

    Please help me help myself....

hi. i just want to send you a great big hug! ive only had my band less than three weeks and im sure there wil lbe struggles ahead. u take good care of YOU xxoo
  20. i was told not to even consider it until 2 years post banding and that it maynotbe necessary. some people are lucky and skin moudls to new shape, ifound that quite unbelievable. though i wonder if excercise on those areas might help
  21. hi, i am also prone to keloids. have been rubbing Bio Oil (vitamin E lavender, calendula, rosemary) on my scars. i have another big keloid from gallbladder surgery 20 years ago and one of the keyholes from lapband went through it, but it doesnt seem to be bad. of course it was only less than 3 weeks ago. I havent felt the port apart from putting the oil on, because it is too senstive to touch, ie i cant stand it!
  22. how would i know if something was wrong? dr did say that three weeks from surgery is the danger time for slippage. how would i know if the band had slipped? or can anything else go wrong? i dont have scales at home but dont feel like i have lost anyting since the surgery?
