July 2006 Band Crew
Sunshine, I have really tried to not think too much about the surgery and focus on my preop instead. I can create pretty intense anxiety and nervousness if I let myself. I'm soooo sooo excited but looking forward to it being done. BTW where in Alberta do you live?

Canadians Only Please! - Do you take your shoes off?
Lol omg these posts made me laugh. My best friend is an American so I could never bash America....it's a great country!...However....the questions that I have been asked...being Canadian and all is just ridiculous. Granted some of those questions were asked by teenagers when I was younger but I remember my sister and I being asked..." Do ya'll eat with utensils or your hands?"...lol...as well as..."Do ya'll have electricity and ride dog sleds?" Sometimes I wonder if people that aren't from Canada honestly assume that Canada is a little town and we all know "Bob from Canada." Not so much Americans...but far away other countries. In answer to the poll...I would never leave my shoes on in someone else's house....unless they lived in a mud hut of course.

I am leaving for the Dominican Republic in the morning!!
I agree with Jen. I think it's all about your mind set. My whole life was always about food. I planned things around the food. I wondered what kind of food would be at different event instead of thinking about the event. The FOOD was the event for me. I realized that I have to change that attitude if I want the band to work. It's just food....it will always be there. I keep telling myself that. It's just food, it's just food. It's not my friend, it doesn't make the party more fun. You can go and have an absolutely awesome time...have a treat here and there but remember it's just food. Years from now you aren't going to remember what you had on day 3 for lunch...you're going to remember the dancing and sight seeing and laughing. Have a great time!!

Son's Graduation Pics
My mom had me when she was 15 and my brother when she was 16 and then two more 15 years later...my little sister starts college this fall. I don't know how she did it. I had my first at 20 and I look at him and think...there is no way I am old enough to be his mother...lol...I'll be a mess when he graduates but hopefully I'll look good since that is 4 years away. Congrats on your sons big day Penny!! You must be so proud.

Oooo Amy yer so lucky....so you're turning this into a vacation for you and DH? My kids will all be with hubby and I will be with my best girl in Mexico but it's a there and back kind of trip. I kinda wish we had booked and extra night or two and coughed up a couple hundred more bucks ust to extend our stay since we are already going to be down there....oh well. I was grouchy this morning but feeling good now....amazing to me how much of a difference taking carbs out makes to my mood. Later gang.

I need ideas for week 3 TLBC post-op diet
I agree with Leila....from talking with my doctor a while back, she was quick to inform me that when you aren't eating enough your body thinks that you are starving it and hangs onto every thing because it doesn't know when it's getting food again. Maybe you could have really runny oatmeal or cream of wheat? Make sure your taking a Vitamin too. Good luck. On a side note...I'm having a heck of a time finding sugar free popsicles...looked at walmart, sobey's and superstore to no avail. Or are you guys talking about those real fruit no sugar added ones? Any "lite" ice creams I found seemed to be loaded with carbs. Where did ya buy yers? Thanks.

I'm cheerier but still ketosis-less
It made some reference to ketosis in my pre op....that when you going into Ketosis is when your liver starts shrinking. I guess I won't worry much about it. I'm keeping my carbs low and I've lost 10 lbs since Saturday so I think I should be okay.

July 2006 Band Crew
One week from tomorrow and I'll be in Mexico. Definitely starting to get really nervous. Aside from a few white knuckling moments the pre op is fine now. I think after a few days you really do get used to it. I'm sooooo excited but the butterflies are swirling. My best friend, Almostready76 is getting it done the same day as me. We get to go together and it will sure be nice to have someone there. The list is long of people that are going in July...which will make it great down the road for feedback and encouragement. Good luck to anyone that is going in the next few days.

Marriage on the Rocks?
I can see how, barring open comunication in a relationship, things like this can start to break down a marriage. Maybe she's feeling insecure about herself now that you're losing the weight. Maybe she finds it hard to throw compliments your way because then she starts feeling like maybe she doesn't deserve you(because of her own low self esteem) Maybe she wants reassurance from you that you've loved her all these years and losing weight doesn't change that. Maybe she wants you to encourage her to go with you when you go for a walk or work out. Maybe she wants you to make her feel like you are losing weight for yourself but also for her because you want her to have a hot husband because she deserves that. I dunno. Woman have deep rooted emotional needs and fears that need to be calmed. My husband has loved me since I was 18 yrs old and 177 pounds. Over 100 pounds has been added to my body and his love for me has never waivered. Granted he has gained weight too but not nearly as much as I have. He never fails to remind me(on almost an obnoxious daily basis..lol)that I'm still soooo beautiful. Both him and I are aware that we both notice attractive people and I don't see anything wrong with that...but if your eye is wandering to the point where you start imagining a different life....then I think it goes beyond just the typical stuff that marriages endure. Good luck with you marriage and your weight. Maybe you're marriage was coming undone before the weight loss and you just refused to see it....maybe not. But if you are having issues...you need to talk to your wife....dragging it out and leaving it won't help and that isn't fair to you or her.

We are starting our journey tomorrow...
Read through some of the posts on how much people have lost. I think you would be surprised to see that maybe your 130 lbs loss is not unrealistic....maybe it won't happen in 8 months but I think that if you work the band properly eventually you'll get there. This site has a ton of really amazing people on it who know just the right thing to say when you are down and have tons of realistic advice...oh and a few who will give you a good kick in the arse if you need to be refocusing...lol. Take care

I'm cheerier but still ketosis-less
I think that since I've been low on carbs for 5 days I'm way more cheerful. I've gotten a lot more done around my house and my family seems to like me better these days but I'm still not in Ketosis. I have the stick things and I barely have a trace....is this okay or normal?

Star Jones....leaving "the view"
Holy cow...on a side note....You're going hard on your weight loss funny...I noticed your sig line. Good job!

Star Jones....leaving "the view"
I'm looking forward to seeing how Rosie O does filling in for Meredith. I never really like Star either....and I think the hush hush over how she lost her weight made her even less personable to me. Wonder who they will get to replace her?

QUESTION for moms.. FUNNY
OMG this thread made me laugh so hard. Some of these stories are so familiar. It's amazing how when you think you're going through it all by yourself....there are hundreds of other moms dealing with the same thing.

Holy cow...this stuff is nasty
Lol thanks Drew for that little tip...gross! Thanks soooooo much everybody for the suggestions...I'm off to find something else to try. 5 pounds down since Saturday so I'm doing okay...it really is true what someone said in a different post....the first 3 days seem to be the hardest. It's going to be over before I know it anyways.

I need a new blender!
Whenever I use the blender attachment I put all the liquid in first and then the ice and we have an ice dispenser so I can put in crushed which makes it easier.

I need a new blender!
We absolutely love the bullet. My kids make their own smoothies right in the mugs that came with it....yogurt, fruit, a little ice, a dribble of milk and a little honey...we all love em. I love that it's little and the container has a lid to put it in the fridge if you don't use it all. It really is one of the few appliances that I use everyday.

Holy cow...this stuff is nasty
Mysherrijo and salljo -I did look for the Atkins at the Superstore and didn't see it and I've never seen Isopure anywhere...where did you buy yours? Funny: any particular flavor that you prefer over the others? Drewslou and Moorless: Where did you buy the advant? Yoda: The only reason I was going to try ready made was because both of the ones I bought were sooooo chalky and I thought the cans would be smoother going down. I really didn't want the pre op to be a 300.00 experience on it's own but geeez...I may have to actually waste 3/4 of a can of two different kinds. DH even tried to get creative and add a crystal light package to the vanilla....Hola...God love him...but that was a definite no. Anyways I shall go on a hunt for something else to try....thanks all for the suggestions.

Holy cow...this stuff is nasty
Sooooooo....anyone in Canada know of a decent tasting ready made Protein shake that is low carb? I looked online at the Slimfast optima and they have 20g Carbs..yikes!! I'm trying to choke back the stuff I have and who knew that eating liquid chalk could result in a 3lb loss in 3 days and it's my time of the month! I was just wondering if anyone lucked into finding a ready made that isn't nasty. Thanks all.

A little dizzy and nausea
I definitely feel better as the day goes on. I was not lucky enough to find good Protein powder on the first try...this stuff is gross...liquid chalk but I choke it back. I think I'll feel better in a few days....it is only day 3. Lean cuts of meat generally have no carbs unless there are other ingredients added to them so I'm not worried about that. I also started taking a multi Vitamin today. The extra shake a day should help.

Summer Time with Kids
My kids rarely whine that there's nothing to do but that's probably because there are always kids over. My DH was never allowed to have sleep overs so he is making up for lost time. We have a 13 yr old boy, 10 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl. Saturday night there were 12 kids sleeping here. The older ones slept on the trampoline(best money I've ever spent) and all the other kids slept in different places around the house. We always to tradzies..lol as we call it with a friend...you take mine I take yours. The kids put the sprinkler under the trampoline to cool off...I'd love a big enough yard for one of those huge pools. We take them to our little man made lake. We have computers so they go on that. They make huge forts in our basement. YMCA or the wave pool is another great option. Our zoo here only charges 10.00 for a seasons pass...stuff like that is fun though not on the really hot days. I dunno....I really don't get sick of summer break until mid August but by then they are just as sick of being around me and all my barking...lol... I let them have friends over so much I guess because I see how fast the time goes...before I know they will be gone and I will be praying for noise in my house.

A little dizzy and nausea
Well Saturday I got in 57g and yesterday 61g. It's a low carb, high protein so I've been doing a shake, then a lean cut of meat then maybe a bar and then a shake again. I guess I should squeeze in one more shake in the day.
