Today is my last Kaiser Options class
Congrats to you. I'm in northern CA/East Bay area and the requirements are much different. We don't have option classes to attend. There's a 2hr intro class and 4 1/2 hrs orientation. Once we meet with the surgeon, he or she will set your goal, which is 5%, the next appointment is made before leaving the office for psy eval. It seems that the process is much quicker. Every place is different. I wish you the best on your lifestyle journey.

Best decision of my life.
Wow...how amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. It gives me hope that I too can do it. I'm doing the pre-op diet. I have one question for you. I plan to have the sleeve done and I am a diabetic. Were you able to discontinue your meds after surgery?

Bay Area CA
Hello MusicMom and welcome to this wonderful forum. I am from the East Bay, San Fransico area. I stumbled across this website the later part of March and l absolutely love it. I'm currently going through the process of having WLS. I meant with my surgeon on Tuesday and on June 20th I'm scheduled to meet with the psy for eval. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. This is definitely a HUGH lifestyle comittment. But I think I'm ready for the change. So hop on in and ask as many questions, browse through as many post, give suggestions and make comments.

Please help! I'm in a dilemma.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I too have a very high sugar craving/addiction. I still have some time to decide. I just had my consult with the surgeon. It went pretty well. He said that I was a good candidate for either RYN or sleeve. RNY may be a better choose for diabetics. Did the RNY help your sugar cravings?

Thanks for your response. I appreciate it. I do have to make one correction in my previous post....I misread an ad in regard to taking pain meds after WLS. Tylenol is ok to take for pain. My bad.

Please help! I'm in a dilemma.
It wasn't until October 2016 when I went over the magic number (A1C). My A1C is 6.3 I've been keeping my sugar level and A1C in boarder range since 2005. My diabeties is control through diet....no medication precribed. However, I do take meds for BP. Yes, I do get heartburns from time to time and I believe my BMI is 45/

Please help! I'm in a dilemma.
I will be meeting with my surgeon for the first time next Tuesday. One the things that will be discussed is which WLS procedure have I considered????? I first was leaning towards the Gastric Bypass. But in researching, I understand that patients who have had GB surgery will no longer be able to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen after surgery. Ever. And I'm allergic to aspirin. The main reason why I selected this procedure is because I heard that it's has the best success rate in placing diabetes and high blood pressure in remission. On the other hand, I heard that Gastric Sleeve success rate for patients with diabetes and high blood is not as great. Meaning that these conditions may still be present after surgery. Also, with GS patients may develope severe heartburns. Please share your thoughts and experiences. I'm really looking forward to a new beginning and don't want to think of backing out with either procedures.

Surgery date May 30
I'm a Kaiser member in Northern Cali. I attended an awesome support group yesterday at Kaiser. I understand that the surgeon will set the goal of how much weight I need to loss prior to surgery. Once I have met my goal, completed and cleared the eval and blood work, I should receive the BIG surgery date. I started my pre op diet meal last Friday and have already dropped 7lbs. Amazing. I'm so glad the meal plan does not require drinking protein shakes. It's actually real food LOL...high protein low carbs. Anyway, I too wish you the best of luck on this rewarding and fantastic journey.

Surgery date scheduled. Feeling nervous & questioning if I should.
Congrats to you on losing 30lbs in 4mos. I think you'll be fine. It's normal to have these thoughts of not being able to stay on track after the surgery. I'm currently going through the process of WLS. In fact, I have my first orientation to attend tomorrow and I am so excited. Do you mind sharing how you lost the 30lbs in 4 mos? I mean what exactly did you eat each day. I'm trying to plan my meals.
