  1. I'm 8 weeks out from sleeve surgery and have been cheating with coffee. I either make it at home, very weak or get half caff when out. At home, I usually will mix up 4 ozs of almond milk with 1 Scoop of protein powder and mix that in with my 12 ozs of coffee and its great! It acts just like a flavored creamer and lets me work in a bit of protein, as well. I don't have it every day but on the days that I do, I really up my fluid intake. 2. I'm fairly new with the sleeve, which is not even a full 2 months old, but am happy to answer any questions I can. I've been following the food plan as closely as possible, that my doctor's office gave me but after being on this site, I know how much one doctor's instructions differ from another. I'm located near Buffalo, NY. Sent from my LG-K428 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I wish you all the best, CharlyScott! Leading up to surgery date and especially the day before, I went through every emotion there is, including pure terror. It was this site that got be through and I will be forever grateful. Sent from my LG-K428 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I'm 61 and was sleeved on 2/23/17. Including liver reduction diet to now, I'm down 40 lbs. Since surgery weight loss has been slower than I wanted but so far, I'm being patient. My doctor has me on only 600 calories...some days I might go over by as much as 100 and other days, I struggle to hit 600. I've never been one to exercise and that didn't change, which I'm sure is part of the problem. Clothes have been an issue. I went from wearing stuff that was too tight to wearing a size smaller in pants. I purchased 2 new, smaller size tops...same brand and size, without trying them on. When I got home, one was perfect and one was too tight. The point is, you just can't tell. As long as you know you are losing and feel good, that's all that matters. First holiday

Easter was way easier than I thought it would be. I made my family's favorites and took all to my son's house. While there I enjoyed a small spicy meatball when all were snacking on apps and while every one ate dinner, I played with my granddaughter. Later, I had 2 to 3 ounces of ham, while helping clean up. I was sleeved on 2/23/17. I'm a bit disappointed in weight loss so far...23 since surgery date but know as long as I stick to plan, it will come off. I'm 61 years...its not going to be quick but it will happen[emoji5] Sent from my LG-K428 using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. My surgery is tomorrow and along with being excited to start this phase of my life, I'm also terrified of everything that can go wrong...including failure and health issues or even death from surgery. Are these feelings normal?
  7. I'm typically struggling to get my daily quota of 48 to 64 oz of liquid in each day and have a question...does a smoothie count as liquid? Silly question but I'm really curious. I sip a 12 oz smoothie each morning and so far have only been counting the 4 oz of almond milk I add but wonder if I could count the full 12 ozs.

    February surgery buddy's?

I was sleeved Feb 23 and am down 35 pounds from 293 (start of liver reduction diet). I feel really good but avoid the scale so I don't get discouraged. Sent from my LG-K428 using BariatricPal mobile app

Can a Smoothie Count as a Liquid

Thanks - I don't add ice but add 1/3 frozen banana, 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup Almond milk, a scoop of unflavored protein powder and a packet of Truvia. I was never quite sure how to count it as all but the almond milk is 'solid'.
  10. I was sleeved on Feb 23 and with weight loss from liver reduction diet to now, I'm down 30 pounds and feel great!

    Surgery on Feb. 27

Its all scary but I love hearing the success stories! I am 61, was 293 lbs, 3 weeks post op and doing pureed foods. I thought I would get bored but so far so good. I made that lasagna/ricotta cheese bake that I found on this site, luckily love cottage cheese and just enjoyed some butternut squash soup. I grew up on spicy foods and am very thankful that they don't seem to bother me after surgery. What I continue to struggle with is getting my fluids. I'm hitting 48 ozs but know more would be better for me. I also seem to end each day at 500 calories, but I'm getting minimum of 60 grams of protein so think I'm OK. I stopped weighing myself about a week ago. I stalled after averaging almost a pound a day...now I'm just letting the fit of my clothes let me know if I'm losing. Mostly I just love the stories and support of this site and wanted to thank all for sharing!

61 Yrs & Surgery is Tomorrow

How are all making out? Per doctor's plan I have graduated to a diet that includes sugar free jello and pudding, along with plain (yuck) or vanilla Greek yogurt. Can also have plain ricotta cheese. All this with protein shakes. Can't believe how excited I was this morning to have first bit of jello. Now I'm nervous about hitting requirements for liquid and proteins. Any suggestions for making all go down a bit easier or how to make all a bit more interesting?
  14. Hi all - I was just wondering if there is anyone on this site from the Buffalo area. I live in Clarence and had my surgery Feb 23 (this year) at St. Joe's by Dr. Pham. Today is my first day of post-op wk 2...i got to have sugar free jello and just made some SF jello laced with protein powder, that I'll enjoy for lunch. I think I'm doing well, know I'm losing, but am still scared that I'll mess up. I'm also scared of how often my mouth waters when I drive past a McDonald's and have had to completely give up on watching the Food Network channel. Anyway, would love to hear from anyone, local or not

    1 week out questions

I'm just 3 days post-op and tomorrow I'm suppose to start on 4 chewable Bariatric Fusion vitamins spaced throughout the day.

Eating for the first time post-op

It seems like everyone's plans are different. A girlfriend had the same sleeve surgery a year ago with same doctor and her plan was different than mine. For instance she was allowed SF jello post-op week 1 and I'm not. My niece and her husband had same surgery in a different state and they were allowed pureed foods after 1 week, but I'm to stay away from them for 2-3 weeks. I guess the point is, each doctor or practice does what they feel is best but we all might react a bit differently to the plan. Right now my intent is to take things as slow as possible, follow my doctor-prescribed plan but to keep checking on this great site for help, suggestions, & support[emoji5]

61 Yrs & Surgery is Tomorrow

I made it through surgery and at back home with my beloved dog, sipping the always constant water and even doing some laundry:) last night was really rough but its amazing how well I feel now. I still have some very manageable pain from surgery and gas. To be truthful, the worst part of last night was my bum shoulder aching from lying on my back. Now, my worst moments are getting down my crushed meds. But...its all part of the journey and something I'm thrilled to share with all the wonderful ppl on this site!
  20. My surgery was yesterday, 2/23/17. All last night I didn't see how I would feel well enough to go home today and boy! was I wrong. What a difference. Am feeling pretty good except for the gas pains and trying to get in all the liquids! Also hate taking my crushed pills but I'm so glad to have the surgery behind me and starting this journey!

61 Yrs & Surgery is Tomorrow

People I've read about and people I know also had the surgery. Most have had great success but a few backtracked. After getting the surgery behind me, that is my biggest fear...going through all this and not being successful. I have a lifetime of bad habits that have led to these 293 lbs that I need to battle. My son is also morbidly obese and I want to be an inspiration to him, as well.

Thank you so much for reply I g and sharing your success. After looking through the posts I was surprised at the low wt losses and backsliding. I want/need to practice mindful eating going forward and your success is proof it can be done.
