  1. Thanks to all of you for your kind words. I am feeling better. I have been able to walk and I deal with the pain however I can. I decided I'm not going to let it run my life anymore. I'm now in therapy and I've attended a few Meetup groups and a library function. I am planning on attending an oa meeting too. Thank you all so much for your support.
  2. I am really depressed. I'm writing you guys because I don't know anyone where I lived. I was a homebody when we moved here. I couldn't work. Filled for disability. I've lost almost 20 lbs some august 14th when I got sleeved and 10 before. So I'm 267. And I don't see any difference or feel any different. I also had chronic back pain. Daily non stop before surgery. It's a little better but not much. Maybe I just thought I'd notice a difference more. I'm not even proud of losing 30 lbs. I'm not as active because of my pain but I'm still doing physical therapy and lifting small weight for upper body. It feels good to just get this out. I'm sure it will get better.
  3. Hi I'm in Louisville too! Surgery date is 8/14 for the sleeve. Have you had surgery? Doing pre op diet now. Only first day. So far not bad lol. Good luck to you!

  5. I am looking for other vegan bariatric patients. I haven't met many vegans around here having weight loss surgery or not. It would be great to meet up with someone who knows what it is like to be vegan and a WLS patient.
  6. My surgery date is august 14th. Congrats and good luck
  7. Thx! I completely agree. He's not making me really. I spoke with him over the phone about it. My husband also made the same comment you did about surgeons not trained in nutrition. So we are going to discuss it with him again. He's a very nice and understanding doctor. I think he thinks that vegan and vegetarian are the same thing. I moved here, to KY 6 months ago and no one has understood the difference when I told them. There's barely any fruit and veg section in grocery stores. I guess that's the south. I know if I drink those shakes I will just be thinking of all the baby cows that died and the moms that were made to stay pregnant to produce milk. Thx again. Your post has given me courage to stand my ground.
  8. My Dr. still wants me to use bariatric advantage meal replacement for pre-op after explaining I'm vegan and milk products don't agree with me. I am vegan and when I drink milk products they upset my stomach. Has anyone else dealt with this or discussed it with there doctor? If so can you tell me what they suggested you to use instead of the bariatric advantage meal replacement? I am afraid that the whey protein expressed from milk will upset my stomach.
  9. I'm working with his bariatric group right now and I'm impressed with him. He's very patient and answers any questions. He has a very calm demeanor and he doesn't talk down to you like some doctors. Cons- You have to call and stay on top of the office staff all the time. AS a patient I shouldn't have to tell them to do there job. I had my last physician diet appointment last Friday and assumed they sent everything to insurance because my doctor faxes it to them the same day. They did not. This is very important to me because I have disability for chronic daily back pain and losing weight will help it. So now I have to wait until tomorrow for the nurse to send in my preauthorization. Apparently it's hard for someone else to fax a few papers and call insurance on the phone. I've worked in healthcare and it doesn't take more than 20 minutes. Every time I call the secretary has to know why I'm calling the person. It's annoying and not needed. I will be telling Dr. Oldham about these complaints during our office visit.
  10. Awesome! Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

  12. 1200 calories, 75 to 80 gm of protein. 100 or less gm carbs, fat is 25 to 30 I think. I have heard of Dr. Davis because of his association with other vegan,/vegetarian doctors. I haven't read his book yet tho. Does he specifically talk about wls patients and protein or the average person and protein? I will definitely look into it. I've never heard of Dr. Weiner. I will look him up. I tried to do 1200 calories but i was lethargic and couldn't do anything but sleep. And I ate tons of veggies. My dietician said I should do that now so I can go back to it later. The problem with that is my metabolism is already slow as it is because I have chronic back pain and haven't been able to work at all. I actually just filled for disability. Anyways, I'm still constantly hungry on this 1500 calorie diet. Atleast I'm not as lethargic. Thank you for your advice Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

  14. I think that would be awesome. I actually just moved here in January for my husbands job. I don't know many people. I haven't gone to dr.oldhams meet up group but it is only once a month. I hope to see you guys there this month. My name is Jenn. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. Same dr. Here. Don't have a surgery date yet. 2 more months of my medical diet to go! Great to meet people so close. Is there anyway on here to add friends or do you just save the posts and get updates? Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Hi, dr.oldham is my Dr too. I'm in the 4th month of my medical diet for 6 months. I also have to get a hiatal hernia repair. It's good to know that it won't be that worse or really painful. What month are you in post op? Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. I also see dr.oldham. I will be in my 4th month of the medical weight loss diet. It's great to meet someone who has the same dr. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I am currently monitoring my macronutrients on myfitnesspal. I'm able to get the correct amount of protein. I am finding it hard to make sure I get under the fat and carb goals. I think it may be due to the fact that besides eating veggies, alot of beans and legumes contain carbs as well? We usually eat tofu, tempeh, black beans, and chickpeas consistently every week. And have the occasional sweety potato so they are better sources of carbs. I understand I will have to cut back even more on bread, pasta, and those types of carbs. That won't be hard for me. I eat hot dogs and burgers without buns. I found an extensive list of vegan protein products and how much is in each. I still feel like I need a list of vegan proteins including carbs and fat in each product. I am also on 1500 calorie diet right now. After wls I'll be on 1200 so maybe having even smaller portions will fix this problem? Did anyone else have this issue? And does anyone have a comprehensive list of vegan protein sources with the gms of proteins, carbs, and fat in each? Thank You! Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

  20. Jay Robb is whey protein so it's not vegan but the sun warrior protein looks great. They have a ton of recipes too! Thx Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. The protein drinks look like a his substitute for when my sweet tooth kicks in. Nutritionist squids substitute don't withhold because you will over eat. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Haven't done sun warrior or Jay rob. Thx! Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I have used the vega one chocolate. I thought it was too chalky. I use soy milk since it has more protein. I am going to use it for flavor with other ingredients in my smoothies. I will try to find the others at whole foods or online in some single palettes first. The texture may just be something I need to get used to. Thank you all so much for the help.
