Do tired of vomiting
That's honestly ridiculous and I'm so upset for you. I have a nausea med that I don't have to swallow, it just dissolves on my tongue. I don't have any advice and I'm sorry about that, but I really hope you can find some relief soon.

Little Green getting little(r)
Had a pretty good day today and I felt much better than yesterday. I got up with my husband and made his lunch, etc. and that felt really nice. I started the quadrant plan to drink my protein shake and I was successful for the first quadrant, haha (although it took me 3 hours to convince myself to drink the whole 5.5oz). But then I ended up taking an epic nap from 12:30-5pm and that threw everything off. I had some delicious soupbroth (my word for taking a can of soup and straining everything out, rather than actual broth like you cook with) around 7pm that likely had a few grams of protein left in it - and now I am, as always, doing my make-up sips to try and get to the protein goal. However, I did REALLY well with hydrating today and I think that was key in my feeling better - plus the amazing nap! Me & Lovenox aren't getting along right now. I have developed such a complex about doing the injections because of the pain on my left side and the epic square mile of bruising and tenderness on my right side (from the previous injections). I tried my thigh and it was okay, but the embarrassing truth is my belly is so f-ckin big I can barely see the fleshy parts of them, so I wasn't really comfortable. I'm having to listen to music and just sort of force myself to autopilot through while focusing on the lyrics, and even then I'm having trouble actually putting needle into skin. I have no fear of needles, shots, injections, etc. whatsoever (I have 12 body piercings and two tattoos, yearly flu vax, blood draws, etc. plus I took care of my husband for months after his accident including administering these exact same Lovenox injections lol) so this is not that. My mind is just rejecting the whole notion or something. I only have five left - two tomorrow, two Thursday, one Friday morning - before my post-op appointment Friday where I will, fingers crossed, be blessedly released from the obligation to do them. So I've figured out that I can sleep quite well in the bed if I'm on my right side, but not my left. When I'm on my left, that is when I get the stinging fiery ouch pain. Usually I pick a side depending on which side of my nose is stopped up LOL! but I might have to default to my right side until things get better over there on the left. The one real bariatric sin I am committing at the moment is that I'm not walking regularly. It's been either too hot or raining. The heat is a concern because of fainting, but I could walk in the rain if I really wanted to - I love being out on a trail with a light rain going. I resolve to do better, particularly after I'm cleared to drive and can go to the park or a trail nearby (or Planet Fitness if I really have to, lol).

EGD TEST RESULTS
Yay! I've been checking your thread hoping for the best. It's always so nerve-wracking when they come back and say "we need to do more testing" etc. So glad you're in the clear! Less than a month to surgery

Either two premier protein shakes or one shake and one protein water (also PP brand). That's enough, honestly, plus all the water. Sometimes I'll have broth here or there - I really like to have soups that have all the stuff taken out instead of premade broth, lol, it tastes so much better that way! I've had tomato soup a few times, but dilute it with water b/c it has high fructose corn syrup in it, blah. An occasional jello. I've had popsicles once or twice. I would experiment more but I just am never hungry or interested, it's so freakin bizarre. Don't think I haven't thought about trying the same thing! I'm making beans and chili today to puree for later and I know it's going to be hard to resist blending a tiny bite up and trying it. I've also thought about ordering a soup from Panera and putting it in the blender. But I really want to follow the letter of the law just in case something goes wrong - I'm so paranoid I would hate to have to admit to my surgeon that I forked up and that's why I'm in the ER or something haha.

Anyone go to the hospital alone?
To answer your post, my hospital requires someone to be with you at discharge (unless you leave AMA as someone else brought up). To go off-topic on your post, I'm cracking up at people who told their family members to go to work or not worry about being there. My mom and husband were at the hospital from 7am to 8pm on surgery day and came back the next day around 9am, staying again until 6pm or so - and my in-laws came that second day, too. I was in surgery (pre-op, op, recovery) from 9am to 7pm the first day and too drugged and groggy and sleepy to even remember most of the next day. But there they were! We all walked the halls together, including my dad too at one point. There's no judgment either way but it just tickles me to think of some folks being alone in their hospital room for 24-48 hours and then there's me with my entourage

Working after Gastric bypass
I hate to add to the bad news but I was also still down for the count at 2-3 days post-op. I could barely stand without my belly feeling like it was ripping apart from the inside. And I was still having aftereffects from the anesthesia, mostly feeling groggy, a bit confused, and very fatigued. I'm sorry you have to deal with all this at the same time as school - I wish you the best of luck! Maybe you'll be just fine

May 2018 losers bench
May 17 for me, so today is 12 days post-op. I had a ton of post-op pain which is mostly resolved now, but I've been so lucky to have had literally no issues drinking water or protein shakes. No bloating or crampy feelings, no discomfort or tightness, and no nausea or vomiting at all. I don't have hunger or a sense of fullness, I just sip when I think about it which is the hard part for me. I have no interest in the shakes anymore - I'm not hungry and after 21 days pre-op and 12 days post-op, I don't really want them, so it's difficult for me to actively push myself to drink them. I should be able to start purees on Friday and when I tell you I cannot wait.... man I CANNOT FREAKIN WAAAAAAAIIIITTTT!!!! I predict that will be a totally different ballgame haha so I'm interested to see if my RNY stays happy-go-lucky the way it is now or if I start experiencing some of the more common issues you guys have been talking about. I'm not sure why but I haven't had any issues with taking normal sips of water. I'm not gulping it down or anything but I am not taking tiny sips or really even thinking about my sips, just drinking like I did before. Maybe I've always taken small sips, lol?

Need advice for my unique situation (specifically two months post-op)
No advice to add as I'm just post-op myself but I hope I can say without sounding too patronizing that I'm so happy you've made this choice at this time in your life! I weighed 250 lbs or more when I graduated high school and I really wish I could have lost weight then instead of gaining another 100+ pounds over the intervening 10 years. You will not regret it. High five for planning your camp experience in advance - and good luck!

Little Green getting little(r)
My RNY is still happy, I think, but today I've been feeling kind of weird. Not quite nauseated, not quite crampy, not quite bloated... some kind of mix. Things seem normal - I had two normal bowel movements today. I am having spotting/bleeding although that's been going on for nearly a week now. The nerve pain I was discussing before is much less today. The only feedback I get from eating or drinking is occasional burps. Everything seems just fine and getting better, except I'm feeling blah. Not really sure what's going on. Maybe lack of sleep? I did nap later in the morning but I don't think I felt particularly rested today. I am having trouble getting in all my fluids and protein on a regular schedule because of my disinterest in food. I've been hitting at or just below my goals (usually only miss by 5g) but I have to do a fair amount of sipping at night to make up the difference I miss during the day. Starting tomorrow I am going to pour out my protein shake into a glass - I am thinking I will do half a bottle at a time - so that I have a visual guide of how much I've had and how much I need to go. And maybe I will split up the day into quadrants. 7am-10am, 10-1pm, 1pm-4pm, 4pm-7pm and try to drink at least one half of a protein shake during each quadrant. When I say "try to drink" I don't mean I'm having trouble getting the protein shakes down. Again, today's weirdness notwithstanding, my belly seems happy. Nothing hurts going down or tries to come back up and I don't have any sense of hunger or fullness yet so I don't hit a wall or anything. Maybe I'm just mentally tired of protein shakes and that's why I conveniently "forget" I have an open one sitting next to me for hours at a time. Because I am definitely excited about purees, lol. HUMMUS, REFRIED BEANS, OATMEAL, PEANUT BUTTER, COME TO MAMA!!! I wanted to make it until Friday before weighing myself, but because I'm feeling kind of crappy tonight I went ahead. I've lost 15 pounds since surgery day! I am 11 days post-op so that's a pretty crazy number, but makes sense in the context of my weight. It's hard to feel that great about it since the reason is because I'm literally starving, hahaha, but I'm happy to be getting the weight loss honeymoon started and looking forward to eating again soon!

How do you, personally, define a carb?
I'm so excited to put pureed blueberries on my oatmeal when I start purees soon! And peaches are an approved fruit on the soft phase so I can add those in about 2.5 weeks, too!

I'm honestly assuming I'll need to lose 100 pounds before I have to buy new clothes. I wear mostly dresses and skirts just out of preference and I know all of my sundresses will keep fitting for a long, long time lol.

Opinions on peanuts.
I love raw, unsalted nuts (esp pistachios) and my liquid-stage post-op belly is just dreaming of the day when I can have them again!

Coffee after weight loss surgery?
Just wanted to pipe up that while this is true the effect is very small. According to this study, the effect can be offset by "as little as 1-2 tablespoons of milk." So maybe if your labs are showing a calcium deficiency, then be careful, but I don't think it's enough reason on its own to drink decaf if you want caffeinated.

Sleeping in the bed was... ok. I had a tremendous amount of pain getting into position (on my side with my upper body twisted toward the pillow - I know, I know) but I slept roughly 4.5 hours once I got there. However, once I woke up I couldn't get back to sleep in any position I tried. So I came out here to the recliner to try and catch another 2-3 hours but now I'm awake! I might try to nap a little bit later. Right now just sitting here sipping some water. Hey, maybe I should start a protein shake so I don't have to play catch-up like yesterday haha.

How do you, personally, define a carb?
"Some people don't care" as in they don't care if the grams of carbs come from a whole grain vs. a starch vs. sugar, etc. Just to clarify.

How do you, personally, define a carb?
I didn't intend for this post to have any leading questions, and I'm sorry if it came off that way. I was trying to word it in a neutral way that would result in specific answers about specific foods. I see so much generality, like "avoid carbs" "keep carbs down" etc. and I'm just wondering what people mean - what foods specifically they mean when they say that. A lot of the answers have been really helpful - some people do delineate between "bad carbs" and "good carbs" and some people don't care, they literally count the grams and keep them below a certain #. That's the kind of info I was looking for. Hope this helps a bit!

YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!! This thread! I'm thrilled and honored to be in the presence of you ladies. I honestly feel like it's a totally different experience when you have a BMI above 50 and sometimes there is so little to relate to when reading about smaller women's journeys, no matter how hard you try. My highest known weight is 381 - I had stopped drinking soda and started trying to change my diet about two weeks before I saw that number so I'm assuming it was higher, 385+ at least. My BMI was 58, I believe. I weighed 367 when I first met with the surgeon and 342 on surgery day. No idea what I weigh right now but I'll know Friday It's difficult to realize you need to lose 220+ pounds (the same weight as some women who have WLS!) in order to be a healthy weight, and particularly depressing when you look at statistics that say you'll likely only lose 70% of your excess weight. Honestly, I like being "big and tall." I would really like to have a normal BMI for health reasons, but I don't expect or desire a "slim" silhouette. My secret wish is to play roller derby and I would love to have a solid, strong body with big skating thighs and hips I can bodycheck people with My only concern is my health, my fitness, and my mobility.

There's no need for the attitude I politely disagreed with your assessment of Creekimp's diet as low-carb. That's all. I appreciate your responses on this thread!

I will be googling nerve root overstimulation very shortly to compare my symptoms! Haha, thank you sweet lady. I will surely be so proud (I am already am) and ready to cheer you onto the slim and narrow weigh!

Oh, pardon me. I didn't realize we were talking about energy expenditure; I assumed we were discussing energy consumption. It seems really strange to call a diet made up of over 50% carbs "low-carb" in an effort to include the person eating that diet in a category containing people who, by contrast, avoid grains, legumes, fruit, etc. But by all means, carry on!
