Where did I go? Who am I now?
Bermy and I were talking on the Before and After Picture thread and I thought we should move the discussion here because the topic is so close to my heart. I hope she doesn't mind me quoting her.. This was my biggest fear once the decision was made to get the band. Everytime it would really hit me that I was actually going to see 130 pounds again, pure cold panic would run through me. How was I going to be treated by family, friends, me?! once I was no longer "me". Now, everytime I have to go buy new clothes I stop and think... Wow, I have bought the same pants and shirts for years now. I know how to "hide" myself behind material. How on earth do I dress myself now? Im not young anymore so I cant dress like I did when I was 17. But... I'll weigh what I did when I was 17. Confusion abounds... how do I stay comfortable with this new person in the mirror??

Mexico or States
Amy's not banded yet, but she'll be going to Dr. Sanchez in Monterey. Rumbaut and Sanchez are the only two Drs in Mexico that I would recommend based on heresay. (dont anyone get mad at me now ) I had mine done locally mostly because it never occurred to me to go far from home for surgery. Just be very certain that you have good LOCAL follow-up care set up and that you can get back to your surgeon IF something goes wrong that requires more serious medical attention. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

Whoaaaaaaa... Locking threads at will?
Hiya Divamsm, welcome to LBT! We do try to keep things interesting around here. And sometimes we even succeed. Welcome to the family! And let me hook you up with some other threads and sites about the band that will be helpful. Surgery Video and Q&A: This is a recorded Web Cast of a Lap Band surgery. The surgeons provide a lot of basic information and answer a LOT of questions from the viewers. The video shows the placement of the lap band via laparoscopic camera and also shows the positioning and attachment of the port. It's not gory at all, but it is surgery so watch with caution: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3190472028990485080&q=lap+band Questions to ask your Dr before getting banded: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=15595

Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
Ok, here goes. The horrid - never seen by human eyes outside of my home - before shots with the progress so far.... In my defense, those first shots were 10 days after surgery and I was recovering from a lot more than band surgery. I really didn't give a hoot what I looked like. I was already down 20 pounds in those first pics. About 100 lbs to go!

*nods and smiles from the sidelines, singing quietly* I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind. It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. Oh yes, I can make it now the pain is gone. All of the bad feelings have disappeared. Here is the rainbow I've been praying for. It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. (ooh...) Look all around, there's nothing but blue skies. Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies. I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Here's the rainbow I've been praying for. It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. Real, real, real, real bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. Yeah, hey, it's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiny day. *winks at Sue* (I really do hope you have a sense of humor, Sue!)- Is this stupid?
I was so tempted to just pop on here and reply "Yes!" without reading the post. *snickers* Hmm.. I wouldn't advise you to do anything unethical or illegal, but student loans are also for helping people live while going to school. Perhaps you need the band to live? *snickers* You should check with the School's insurance and see what they cover. I knew of a gal who was getting approval for the bypass surgery via school insurance. Not sure if they've woken up to the benefits of the band yet though. Never hurts to ask. Good luck! (Adding to this: I was raising kids when I went back to school. I took the loans and bought Christmas, a tv for our home, and clothes. If I had only me to think of, I would use the money to better my health. In a heartbeat. Unless it were illegal. But thats just me.)- Whoaaaaaaa... Locking threads at will?
DrewsLou needs to be arrested for inhumane treatment of emoticons! Someone call the SPCE! *chuckles*- Possible solution for PB's and restriction pain
LisInBoston - PB stands for Productive Burp, a nice name given to a not-so-nice event which occurs when people eat foods that refuse to go through the band and become "stuck". This often producing an excess of saliva secretion to help move the food through. Since the food is already stuck there is no swallowing that saliva so it often fills the mouth and has to be spit out (sliming). Some PBs happen quickly, with the food just coming back up with no pain or effort, while other more sever cases include pain and take some time to resolve. The pain is compared to getting a large airbubble or golfball stuck in your esophagus, just behind the breastplate. You are not derprived of air during this time, as the food isnt stuck in airways. There are many foods that are known to cause PBs for bandsters. Those include, but arent limited to: Breads pastas salad Fruit with thick skins (grapes, oranges, etc) Steak or ground beef chicken Usually, meats can be dipped in juice or sauces to make them moist enough to eat. Dry meats are usually a problem.- Hubby Doesn't want Wife to work
Remember, she wants this. Its not something she is trying to deal with or avoid. She likes it. Some women do prefer to stay home with their kids. I did and in today's society it is hard to find men who support that, NOT require it. Big difference. It could very well have everything to do with it. Although, look further into it and ask yourself WHY are they lower end income. If the answer is laziness or lack of motivation, then I'm willing to bet that IS the answer. If you are drawn to men with those personality traits, try being aware of that inbuilt attraction and force yourself to see attractive qualities in men who are stronger in character.- Whoaaaaaaa... You still cant have my Bud Light!- Gone for Good Club - May 2006
Heya Christy - just post a little bit about yourself so we can all get to know you, and have a look at page one of this thread. I'll add you to the Members page and put your stats up if you want them up. The Members page will show you how we post our stats. Then some of us choose to weigh in each week or participate in challenges we have. Our spring challenge is just ending but we have another starting up tomorrow. So you're just in time! Weclome to the club!- Gone for Good Club - May 2006
Its very normal to hit plateaus, even with the band. Just keep doing what youre doing and dont worry about the scale. If you weigh every day it becomes frustrating... like clock watching. I have had weeks that I only lost 1/2 pound or nothing at all. But my overall average is just under 3 pounds per week. That is a great average! Are you tracking your weekly loss? If so, average it out. It will help you see a true picture of your progress. Ok.. Im up for a June Challenge! Tomorrow will overlap. It will be the last weigh-in/scorecard day for the Spring Challenge as well as the first day of the June challenge. Here we go again. Any of you quiet Gone for Gooders interested in joining this go-round? I hope so!- Gone for Good Club - May 2006
The Spring Challenge ends at midnight on Wednesday, May 31st. I will check everyone's score cards on Thursday afternoon. I want to give everyone time to have their cards completed. Those who do aren't going to finish the challenge, please just delete your scorecard and put Withdraw instead. Those who are going to finish up, please get your cards updated by Wednesday night. Remember, there are going to be points for your weightloss, bonuses, and your daily points. So dont give up until you add it up! On Thursday, you will all find a new Gone for Good Club thread. I will post the link on this thread so you can easily find it. Then, all posts will be made on the new thread. We do this each month to keep the thread from growing too long. If I get enough positive responses to a Summer Challenge, then I will have the new scorecards ready for copying on the new thread as well. Come on everyone! Join in if you missed it last time! Join in if you flaked out last time (I did )! Let's make this a summer to remember, ya big losers! *laughs*- Gone for Good Club - May 2006
You know what? Its fine with me if you all want to keep going in June. I know that Lins was talking about starting a Challenge but we can certainly just do it here. I'm not tired of it at all and I'd really like a chance to do better next month. So.... what do you all say? Start the summer challenge on Wednesday and maybe let this one go thru June and July? Same reward - the badge of honor. Everyone in?- Anyone close to goal
This was both funny as hell AND encouraging. I know Im going to need to have this done and it's been kind of daunting. It really helps to hear that it's really not so bad to go through and very worth it. Now... what to do with my underarm wings... :faint:- A Big Huge Apology!!
*snorts too* Your joke was better than Tricia K's... Idaho Hedapimp *laughs* Oooo.. and when I come over, I want to go through the Biltmore estates again. I LOVE that place! Magical! - Whoaaaaaaa... Locking threads at will?
