  1. Absolutely. My BMI went from 41 to 29, and I've added years to my life, I'm sure. It's been hard work, but I got my head straight about it , made the commitment to myself, and started changing my life.
  2. Every.single.morning I look to be an ounce or few lighter. If not I know I ate too much or the wrong thing yesterday so I work harder today.

    HAIR LOSS!

Thanks for sharing. You made me realize I better get some "before" photos because it's too late!

    My Story

    That is so inspiring!

    What to eat?

I'm just over a month out, and I'm having a protein smoothie for breakfast, then I keep at work cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and chicken broth with chicken soup flavored protein. I have one of those items at lunch, then again before 5. Dinner later.
  6. Wow you look fabulous! Congrats and thanks for the inspiration

    Sleeve 9/15

No, my D levels were low so my Primary prescribed them, but the surgeon said it wasn't going to delay surgery and I got through it all just fine. Still taking the Vit D
  8. Good news. My surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet, but my bariatric Doctor did, so I kind of "split" the difference. Fluids all day and 1 small healthy meal for dinner, until the last 4 days. Then liquids only.

    Did anyone experience flushing?

My doctor had me drinking milk to pack in the protein and calories along with the 3 shakes. I don't know anything about flushing, tho. Sorry.

    Post Operation Pain

I'm taking two weeks off. I'm 10 days post-op and started back walking almost immediately. I feel great and my energy level is fine. I'm still on full liquids, getting plenty of protein (Premier Protein shakes) so that's got to be why I feel good.
  11. It's going to work out great. Try to enjoy the experience and trust your medical team. I'm 10 days out and still doing the happy dance! Keep us posted....

    Would you do it again?

No regrets. I was worried sick about post-surgery gas, and throwing up. I don't do nausea well either. Well, turns out I didn't have any gas pain, no nausea and have not thrown up. I'm 10 days post op. It is entirely possible for this to be a "breeze"! Luck? Probably not - Just following Dr's orders may be the magic trick!

Did you ever have second thoughts?

I never doubted myself and my decision, but I did go kinda all morbid, in that I made some last minute arrangements and instructions in case I didn't make it out of the OR. I'm sure I looked like an idiot in that gurney being wheeled to the OR because I was grinning ear to ear with excitement. If I DID make it out, I knew that I would have a new lease on life. It was like being reborn. A "do over". That was 10 days ago. Now I'm Home, recovering, have had NO nausea, no sickness, very little pain after the first two days and things are fantastic! They will be for you, too.

    Clear liquids

Nope - clear liquids was only from after surgery for the next three days for me.

    Psych evaluation. Fail

Oh honey, I'm sorry you feel like this is a setback. It's really not, though. For me the surgery is about getting healthy. I was already on depression meds and have a regular therapist that I haven't been to in ages, but the mental assessment was helpful for me. It helped me realized that I use food to deal with other issues, that I'm going to need to resolve in order to keep the weight off. I went to a few Overeaters Anonymous meetings and the materials and support from that program are going to help me address my compulsive eating problems - which I never even realized I had. I had to ask myself, "before I get this surgery, am I absolutely sure I've done everything I can - used every other tool I have - to get healthy?" The true answer was no. I hadn't dealt with why I eat when I do, and not trying to explore and fix that means to me that I was still looking for a quick fix. Which means I am prime target to be one of those statics that get surgery and 10 years later gain all the weight back. I can't let that happen. You don't have to "fix" all your problems before they will approve you, but you do want to demonstrate that you acknowledge them and are addressing them. Meds and therapy help many of us along this path. Get all the help you need so you can be your best self ever! Good luck .... To us both!
  16. I love this thread. It is so encouraging, because we hear "everyone's journey is a little different" and that's how our stores sound - a little different. However the over-arching theme sounds the same: WLS has been a great decision for nearly all of us, and if we follow the plan we lose weight and can maintain that loss. Pretty simple plan, dedication and commitment are required. Thanks everyone for sharing. I'm 10 days post-op.

    Update and Picturessss! :D

Wow this just blows me away. My doctors always told me I'd be better (arthritis) if I just lost a little weight. I'm 10 days post op and can't wait for it to be me who shares I'm off of the meds and not in arthritis pain. We see it here all the time, and I'm working hard to get there - so I know ... My day's coming [emoji322] happydance
  19. Good for you! It's encouraging to see you didn't lose it all from your boobs. That's usually the first place I see weight loss on my body and I've been dreading that part. [emoji57] thanks for the encouraging photos! Maybe I'll still have mine, too!

Update: 17 days after surgery. :)

No I guess I was saving for my pre-op visit. They do seem to have subsided, tho
  21. I had sleeve surgery 8/18. I started protein drinks yesterday, had my first taste of creamy soup today. I've been very fortunate - no nausea and no problems to speak of. I noticed yesterday that my skin and underneath in the fatty areas feels all smooshy and flabby and soft. I supposed that is fat melting away and I should celebrate but I'm a little freaked out about it. It's just weird and I guess I'm anxious about my body changing right before my own eyes. And THAT is taking me by surprise! #calmdowngirl
  22. I love my Yeti. I miss straws. Only 7 days post-op so I'm not ready to "break any rules" just yet. Although - sipping is a new activity for me and I'm somehow getting air in my sips. LOL must not be doing that right.... Lots of burping going on here [emoji15]
  23. Wow! I'm amazed at your accomplishment. Had my sleeve 7 days ago and it has been a positive experience. Your strength and commitment is an inspiration to me. Congrats! And thx for sharing photos. That really helps me.
  24. glad to see this question! I'm 6 days post-op and my numbers don't seem to have dropped a bit. I feel bloated and overly full and I'm just hanging on - hoping the feel lighter and see the numbers go down on the scale.
  25. Thanks for sharing that story. I gave up my 3-a-day Diet Coke habit pre-surgery, tried one a few weeks and then a few months after I quit and found I didn't enjoy them anymore anyway, so the lesson I'll take away is "always have water handy" especially when outside of my own controlled environment. Thx!
