Nutritional counseling
I'm a bit more cynical. I had to do a 6 month supervised diet program, that was mandatory from my insurance. I ignored it and even gained weight +7lbs until the pre op diet. Personally I suspect the supervised diet is meant to dissuade people seeking the surgery. 6 months is a big commitment and I have met people who dropped out bc of it. My insurance is bad ass and covered 90% of the cost, but if they discourage people from following through with the surgery, then more profit for them. sleeved on 08/09 day of surgery- 268 lbs

Deal breaker.
I gave up coffee and I LOVE coffee but I love my kids more. My father died early this year from heart disease. Heart disease is a slow decline that robbed my father of a better life. He was basically home bound for almost a year with constant medication. Guess what was a contributing factor? Yep, obesity. I felt like I was at a fork in the road: on one side the life I was leading which would inevitably lead to a decline in my quality of life and a painful death or doing something to improve my health so that I could live better and spare my children the burden of my choices. If you can't do it for yourself maybe you can do it for those who love and need you. Obviously it doesn't have to be GS but surely you realize that your body especially every year you get older is suffering the effects of being morbidly obese? I was 341 in my late 30s and it was happening to me, enough that now at 41 I had to do it. sleeved on 08/09 surgery day 268

Hello Out There August 2016 Sleevers!
Out of curiosity are the soups you are eating carb heavy? Carbs are a concern of mine because I'm a vegetarian HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 271 DOS 08/09/16 If I were you I'd switch soups. Granted every program is different I admit I'm kind of surprised that you have been cleared for all foods already. I'm looking forward to eating soft food by the end of this week, whoo hoo! WOMEN ONLY !
Oh yeah. The stress, your physical and food changes can totally contribute to an irregular menstrual cycle. I won't go into detail with my own menses tale of woe but let's just say that a 12 day event has never been normal for me. I'm sure you're good but if it's really concerning you, then schedule an appointment with your obgyn. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 271 DOS 08/09/16

Plant Based Diet After Bariatric Surgery
I'm lacto ova vegetarian too, 24 years now and I am going to continue being one and maybe a part time vegan. I have been hoarding recipes for carb alternatives like chips, bread, pizza etc while also acknowledging that this is a lifestyle change and I will not be able to return to my same habits. Doritos
Ha I've totally fantasized about this. I too am a salt/savory addict. I am not allowed real foods yet and have seriously thought about what will happen when I want that crispy crunch, which led me to research alternative yet more healthy chips like oven roasting all kinds of root vegetables. Idk where you are in your progress but look those recipes up, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if there was a vegan dorito recipe. Since I've been unable to eat food it didn't mean I didn't want them but I sat back to examine my relationship with food, maybe you've done that too, but if you haven't it wouldn't hurt to think about what emotions or moods you are attaching to this activity and it might help to research recipes for alternative crunch stuff. Be kind to yourself. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 271 DOS 08/09/16

Hello Out There August 2016 Sleevers!
Lucky you, I don't feel it anywhere and so far no one has noticed. Ha. Actually I wore a pair of shoes that use to feel tight but now feel comfortable. So that's something. I have the bad habit of weighing everyday. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 271 DOS 08/09/16 Congrats to you too HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 271 DOS 08/09/16

How do you feel after? Are you hungry? Does food mess w/ your head?
I had my surgery 7 days ago and yes I feel hungry but in a different way. I thought going in I would have an absence of hunger but I don't. It's different more muted and a combination of real hunger and head hunger. At times I've craved carbs like Pasta and pizza but then craved broccoli, bean sprouts and eggs. Personally I feel like GS is allowing me to really step back from my eating habits and obsessions. I was really surprised how much of my every day living was anchored to food: planning, fantasizing, preparing, etc. I hope when I am cleared for regular food that my food limit will encourage me to make better nutritional choices rather than the frivolous ones from before. Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.
Yeah NO protein drinks at all. I asked today and was flatly refused. I've been keeping up with my liquids fine. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16 No nutrients other than what's in the broth would have me in VERY BAD HUMOR I'm sorry you're stuck with such a severe set of guidelines...there's no wiggle room at all in your printed post-op dietary instructions? Just seems kind of harsh No I called the office and was told no. It's just until Thursday which is my follow up and I'm hoping for food. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16 I suppose my doc doesn't feel that way HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16

Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.
I'm 6 days post-op. I've complied with my Clear liquids and now I can't stand them. The idea of drinking broth or eating another popsicle turns my stomach, and I think yesterday was the last day for the SF Jello. I called my doctor's office to see if I could have a Protein drink or possibly pureed Soup. They asked if I was feeling weak and suggested that I drink SF Gatorade/POWERade (barf) but no to my request. I decided to drink coconut Water (100%, no sugar or flavors) instead. So serious question has anyone just decided not to eat? My follow up is Thursday and assuming all goes well I'll be allowed "soft food" apparently skipping the puree altogether, so looking forward to that. I know there's this argument that the facility imposes this for a reason but this is a blanket protocol applied to everyone and I did not have co-morbidities or pre-diabetes. I'm just plain ole fat. Thanks for reading my long venting post. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16

Thank you I've been researching that same ratio with veggies first and it seems reasonable and doable. HW 341 SW 298 DOSW 286 CW 275 DOS 08/09/16
