    A New World

Welcome and good luck! My insurance doesn't require the 6 month supervision, I began with my first inquiry appt the 1st week of Aug and I am scheduled for a bypass on 10/5. I also have GERD and it was highly recommended by my surgeon to go with the bypass. However, GERD was not on the list as a co-morbidity, but Barrett's esophagus was and I do have that. My BMI is 42. My PCP "doesn't care about me"

@evenya. My primary care did not address my weight problem until too many problems popped up to ignore it. My annual was in June and I got the stern talk too, along with an insistent recommendation to at least go hear what the bariatric surgeons have to say. In fact a GI dr recommended it 2 years ago and I was so angry I returned to my primary care to report him, lol, look where I am now! Preparing for the very surgery I could have had long ago if I wasn't so stubborn! WLSresources is right. You don't know if he was going to say he doesn't "care" .... About you ..... Or about the lifestyle you wish to live ....... ? But he does think you need to discuss surgical options, so in the end he was doing right by you. That being said, if you have any doubt about how he cares for you, you should consider a new Dr after your surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Questions For Surgeon

Yay! I had mine yesterday. I have to go with the bypass for 2 reasons. I have Gerd and Barretts Esophagus. He told me that the bypass is recommended when someone has Barretts because if throat cancer is found later on and they need to perform surgery, having the stomach still available is essential for a better outcome. The excess portion of the stomach is removed with the sleeve and therefore not available for future needs. Keep your options open for the 2 of you to decide what's best. I have a tentative date for 10/5 if insurance approves. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Different stages

I am not required to take classes and am scheduled to see surgeon, nut and psych over the next month. I haven't been given to much paperwork on post-op yet, but my healthcare provider ( Brigham & Womens hosp in Boston) has nearly everything accessible online publicly. Does your provider have anything available online? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
