Welcome I'm also pre-op and in Northern Virginia. You have a better idea when your surgery is than I do! Hopefully mine will be somewhere between mid-December and mid-January. As goofy as it sounds I like the idea of having it right around the new year - you know, new year new me. I'm working my way through all of the appointments and tests at this point. I'm also working on cutting out processed foods and reducing carbs as cbonet suggested. Good luck!

Also there is The Weight Loss Surgery podcast that is done by a certified family nurse practitioner who specializes in weight loss surgery. I like that I can get the starter kit from unjury, it will give me a chance to try different flavors before spending more. Though from what I understand, my tastes are going to change after surgery so what I like now may not be what I will like then. I'm leery of GENEPRO every since I found out that their Protein powder doesn't actually have 30 grams of protein per scoop, but has what they say is the "equivalent" of 30 grams per scoop. Something about the fact that with their formula one scoop with 10 grams of protein all of the protein absorbs whereas other powders you only absorb 1/3 of the advertised amount.

@@Vombatidae I am excited to see how things go for you. I saw my surgeon for my initial consult this week, intending to go for GB, but he suggested a DS instead, so I am intent on learning as much as I can!

They did finally approve it and I have my first appointment with the clinic they referred me too on Monday. Hopefully things will continue the to move forward. An upside is my PCP knows the process which helps calm my nerves. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I am just starting the process of getting WLS, my PCP sent a referral straight through with no questions - my BMI is 51.3 so she felt it was a good step for me to take. I called today to "activate" the referral and was told that the request is being reviewed for a second opinion. Has anyone else dealt with this? The person I talked to couldn't give me any information about how this process would work and I've never come across it before. Any help is appreciate.
