    Acid Reflux Question

@@KristenLe Thank you so much for the response! So what's a good PPI? Is there any over the counter or will I need to call my doctor! I think you are exactly right! The acid makes perfect sense! I've been eating Tums but it only helps for just a few short minutes!

    Acid Reflux Question

I don't know what's going on with me. I knew I had acid reflux before my surgery but when my surgeon sleeved me, he fixed a hiatal hernia the size of his fist he said. He told my husband he didn't think I would ever have to take medication again but I've been having a feeling of a lump that food won't go down and I have that unreal hunger pang feeling that I had before my surgery. The lump isn't in my stomach but higher up so I am sure that is where the hernia was but the grinding hunger pangs are in my stomach, which I assume is the acid reflux because it's even after a meal. I don't know if this is just swelling that hasn't gone down from the hernia or if it's just normal after being sleeved. Anyone have any answers?

    Fluids

I drink a protein shake for breakfast, then eat lunch and then dinner. During the day I also have a lift protein drink. My question is Monday I will start week 7 and my calories are around 577 but 250 of that is the protein drinks. Am I getting enough food calories? I don't want my body to go into starvation mode and hold on to everything. I get so sick to my stomach though trying to get the water down all day and the two meals is all I can eat. Any thoughts?

    Curiosity, Please help

To pass the time, start practicing eating extremely slow. Sipping all day long! Wean yourself off caffeine and carbonated drinks! Also, rearrange your closet from biggest to smallest clothes so that as you lose you know what section of your closet and drawers to chose from! Rearrange your pantry and start stocking up on water and things you will be using after your surgery! Start researching new ways to prepare your food and look up pureed food recipes! If you do all this and start making lists of things to get done and have done....your surgery will be here before you know it! It will also help prepare you mentally!!! Good luck guys!!!

    Any August sleevers out there?

Best of luck to you guys!!! The best advice is walk, walk and walk some more and SIP constantly! Your body will thank you for it and it truly makes all the difference in the world as far as your recovery!
  6. Hi Jaysmm! I am 5'3" and weighed 188! I was sleeved on August 1st! Don't worry about anybody else approving or disapproving of you having surgery! It's not their life! The fact we chose early on to do something about our OBESE problem is a good thing as far as I am concerned! I personally did not want to wait until I had 100 lbs or more to lose and that was the best and right decision for my life! I had spent way too much money on failed diets and continued to gain it all back and then some! Yes, I had other issues BUT they were issues I was on medication for and had been for years and they were not the deciding factor for me opting to have the surgery! The fact that I was OBESE, no matter it was on the low side of obesity, was the deciding factor for me! I've lost 14 lbs. but it was what I lost prepping for surgery! I have stayed off the scales since my surgery and plan on doing that until all my swelling is gone! You do not have as much to lose so it will come off slower! Don't stress over or focus on trying to lose the weight overnight but focus on this being a tool to help you make healthier food choices and live a healthier life! Stick to the plan your doc and nutritionist gave you and the weight will come off! Good luck to you and good for you doing something early on and not waiting! I am very grateful I was blessed to be able to get this done before I was 200, 300 or even 400 lbs. heavier!!!

    Any August sleevers out there?

I still have swelling and sore around my incisions but I'm feeling like I am making progress every day! There is so much in the beginning that you are so focused on, like Protein intake and Fluid intake, medications that you kinda don't have much time to realize that a week has already passed! I had a horrible hiatal hernia that had to be repaired but the excitement of starting this new chapter in my life makes you forget the pain! It's like having a baby! Some people recoop sooner than others so on the first day they tell you to get so much liquid in.....do it! I didn't the first night and was back at the hospital for two bags of fluid after being stuck 8 times, in places that were horrible just to find a vein. So I can say, the only thing I would do differently is that first night no matter how hard it is or how bad you feel, get your fluids in and you will do fine! When you start feeling unreal pain get up and walk and it helps! Everything your surgical team tells you is the best advice to live by during it all!! Until Saturday I thought I was never going to feel ok but when I was able to start with protein it jump started my body and I started getting more energy and started feeling better! It's a serious surgery with pain but it's one I would do again knowing what I know now! I am excited for us all because we have been given an amazing tool and we don't ever have to be obese again

    Curiosity, Please help

I had all my testing before my pre op and at my pre op.....all questions were answered and I had my surgery one week later!!! I met with my nutritionist the same day I had my pre op because I was a little over an hour away. I was self pay so I only saw my doctor the first initial visit and wanted the surgery, then all the testing was up to me and I did it all quickly, then my pre op and surgery one week after! All this for me was June 27 (first visit) to August 1st surgery!! All went quickly! My nurse told me some people wait and they still need tests 4 to 5 months after their first visit! So if you are ready, get everything you can do yourself done and call them after and tell them you are ready! Good luck!

    plateaus and other ungodly events.

I started with a BMI of 32. My first appoitment to meet the doctor and committing to the surgery, I started PIGGING. I only had to be on the liquid diet 5 days prior to surgery. I was going from 183 to 188 then I started the liquid diet for the 5 days prior to surgery. The day of surgery...August 1st, I weighed 176. Two days ago I weighed 174.8 and today I am back up to 176! Having said all this was to say I have decided to let my body heal and stay off the scales. I still have so much swelling. The day after I was sleeved, I had to go back to the hospital and be given two bags of fluids for dehydration and had to come home with my drain tube because of bleeding. Finally got my drain tube out and am going to concentrate on healing and I will worry about weighing again in 3 or 4 weeks. For now, it's time to heal, sip and protein! I truly think starting with a lower BMI is going to mean losing at a slower pace but it's not about losing it overnight but more about a lifetime of better food choices Congrats on the weight you have already lost

    Soft Solid Foods Question

Use tomato juice in place of your tomatoes if you're not allowed the seeds!
  13. Does anyone know how to make your chicken salad without mayo?
  14. Hunnie, it's NOT you with the problem....it's him!! Truth be known, his self-esteem is a lot lower than your's! He has to tear you down to try and build himself up! He thinks the lower he makes you feel, the better he will feel about himself! Sounds to me like you are way too good for him and deserve so much better! Kick him to the curb and find someone who will appreciate the beautiful person you are! I can assure you, in the end, it will be him that's sorry he lost you! Stay on your plan and watch who will be sorry in the end! I don't even know you but I can certainly see that you are a much more of a beautiful woman than he will ever be of a man!

    1-2 week post op

My nutritionist told me a lot of people have a hard time getting scrambled eggs down and told me to try a boiled egg instead! I don't know if you like them but they told me it was a better choice to get down.

    Scared to Death

Hello! Thankful I came across this forum! I am waiting for a call from my surgeon's office today to tell me what day I will be getting my sleeve! I have been having anxiety and am in general, just scared to death! To compound my emotions, I have had to stop taking my hormones prior to surgery to prevent blood clots! I stopped them yesterday and I know my mood is going to get so much worse (bless my husband's heart!) I am so scared about the surgery, about my mood and anxiety with the surgery compounded with no hormones and scared I will have the strength to break up with my best friend.....FOOD!!! Can anyone tell me if they were this anxious, nervous and scared right before surgery? Also, insurance isn't paying for one thing and the fact of having to take shots (blood thinners) in my stomach for 30 days is scaring me! I know the needle is tiny and I use to take weight loss shots in my tummy BUT for 30 days! It seems my tummy will be bruised and sticking myself that many times in the same spot will start to hurt after a while!!!

    Scared to Death

Thanks ladies about the blood thinners! I have done injections on myself with some diets I've tried. I was suppose to do the stomach, and did a few times, but just something about the stomach that made me end up chosing to do them in my arm. The top part where we get flu shots and stuff. I guess I just felt tougher in my arm lol! Do you guys know if they send us home with injections over pills because of cost and what the price difference is? If it were just like $100 or less for a month, I think I would opt for the pills. Or maybe there is some other reason for the injections. My packet said if you don't have prescripton coverage, you would get the injections so that's why I assumed it was because of cost. Also, were most of you this scared and have anxiety right before your surgery?

    Scared to Death

Thank you so much TracyBar! If you find some good recipes, let me know! That's a great idea to freeze things! My doctor said blood thinners because a risk of the surgery is blood clots so you have to take blood thinners for 30 days. I assume the pills are really high when insurance doesn't pay so they give self-pays the shots.
