  1. I fly to get all of my fills... I live in Nevada and fly to San Diego to get my fills done. I have never noticed any difference from the flights, but I live in a high elevation area (5,000+). However, I did notice that when I went on vacation for 2 weeks at sea level that I had less restriction.
  2. I would love to meet up with you. I will send you my contact info.
  3. Hello, I too am from Reno...I wanted to take the time to welcome you the the boards. You will find the answers to most of your questions here. I am a few days away from my 6 month bandiversary and have lost 100 lbs, so far. I wish you luck on your journey and we are here to support you.
  4. Wow... It's hard to believe that six months ago I was in the same place that you are. I am so glad that I made the choice to have lap band surgery. Like you... I tried what seemed to be every weight loss strategy that came along. I was successful for a little while and then I would get stressed and put it all back on and then some. I am 30 years old and it felt like life was passing me by. The lap band will not solve all your problems, but it will help you make better choices. Instead of eating my way through problems I have developed new ways to cope. I wish you luck in your journey and know that you will make the decision that is right for you.
  5. Sorry to tell ya this but, It happens... I did the liquid stage pretty much low carb. When I moved to the mushie stage low carb wasn't really an option and I gained 5 lbs back. I will go back to low carb when I hit the solid stage, I'll just do a little more walking during this stage and tone up a bit and in the end hopefully everything will be fine.
  6. I think anyone that has had good results from their surgeon feels like they had the best. I feel like I made the best decision for me. I researched alot of Dr's and made the best choice for me medically and financially. I would not have been able to get the surgery done here in the states... It is not covered under my insurance. I was not willing to fight the appeal process for the next year and hope for approval. I chose to have the procedure done by Dr. Huacuz, because he was the best Dr. for me. I am happy with my level of progress and I am also happy with the aftercare that I have through him.
  7. I understand you completely... Only my boyfriend knows about my lap-band and I only told him, because I didn't think I would be able to hide it from him. I will wait to tell my parents and sister until I see them in person, because they live out of state... That should be around the end of June. I hope that my results will be able to speak for themselves by then. As far as co-worker's go I will never tell them...It's really none of their business. They notice that I have lost weight and I just tell them that I eating better and not drinking soda anymore.
  8. Unjury makes an unflavored protein powder. I have added it to just about everything you can think of jello, pudding, apple juice, yogurt... you can order sample packets online before you purchase it in the bigger canister. Hope that help you:thumbup:
  9. I was a self pay also. I took out a Flexible Spending account at work for $5000 and saved up the other $2700 and went to Mexico for the surgery. Getting the lap-band was the best decision/investment that I have ever made.
  10. I am doing very well. I have been working 10 hour shifts at work since Monday. I still have some tenderness at the incisions, but that is to be expected(So I'm told...This was my first surgery). I haven't really had alot of problems with gas since Saturday. I measure everything out and never drink more than 3/4 cup of anything or I get pain in my chest or my left shoulder. I haven't had to take any pain medication since I came home, but I really do alot of walking and sleep with a heated blanket at night. 5 days post op and down 9lbs... I'm sold on the lap-band!!
  11. I am also loving the chocolate unjury... I just mix mine with milk put it in my mixer and throw it in the freezer. Nice for a Protein filled snack.
  12. I was banded on 3/28 and have been doing fairly well with the gas pains. I figured out after the second day that most of mine were caused by taking in too much liquid to fast. Since then I have been measuring out all of my liquids... my limit is just under 3/4 of a cup. If I sip it slowly I do not get gas... If I don't well then my body lets me know.
  13. I was just banded on 3/28 and I woke up the morning after surgery on my stomache. Now I just put a pillow down on the bed and lay right on top of it. I don't wake up at all throughout the night with pains and I don't have the gas in the morning either. But then agin when I have pain at the incision sites I think compression gives me the quickest relief... And I'm sure that's not the norm either!!
  14. Thanks for the heads up... I will check on it!!
  15. We have the same band date... I understand what you are saying about feeling like you need support. I still haven't told anyone that I am getting the lap band. I'm really just hoping that the results will speak for themselves.:sneaky:
  16. I'm glad that you are doing well. I can't wait until the 28th, it seems like time is going by slower now that I am getting close. I think I am going to go with Dr. Billy in Truckee for fills if I don't want to go to TJ. Any advise that you have to offer would be great...
  17. Thanks... I am getting so excited!! i only have 21 more days to go. You will have to let me know how your surgery goes on the 10th. Are you prepared??
  18. Congrats on getting banded today!!! I hope that all is well with you. Please let me know if you need anything or just want someone to talk to.
  19. Right now I am doing the Atkins Diet to reduce some of the carb cravings, because I don't want deal with that addiction the same time as I am trying to get used to the band. I will need to do the liquid diet for 3 weeks, because I have a high Triglyceride level and that can cause bleeding during the surgery. I wish that I was able to get banded in Reno, but I am a self-pay and there is no way that I can afford to pay $14-$16,000.
  20. You must be getting really excited about finally getting your lap band. I can hardly wait to get mine... 30 more days. I have run into that with the fills also. I know that there as a Dr. Billy that comes to Truckee once a month and will take people that have been banded in MX. Right now I'm just planning on going back to MX for the fills... At least I will be able to get them done under fluoroscopy and hopefully not need as many.:smile2:
  21. Thanks... Good Luck with your surgery... Keep in touch and let me know how everything goes!!
  22. OK... I have looked all over these message boards in the hopes that I wouldn't have to be the one to ask this question. Is it possible to get the lap band procedure done if it is your time of the month?
  23. I'll have to try that flavor next... I'm drinking Alpine Punch now and it is definately not my favorite. I just ordered a chocolate flavored Protein shake off the internet yesterday called Hank's Finest Protein Milkshake... I will let you know if it really tastes like Nestle's or a Godiva milkshake like they say it does.:smile2:
  24. Thanks... I'm trying to look at it like all the weight that I am losing will not be coming back after I get banded, so I'm jump starting my weight loss.:smile2:
  25. Thanks... I'm really trying to get the most out of this whole experience. Everyday I see things with a new perspective, but it is always helpful to get some advice from somone who has been there already.
