  8. It's this kind of criticism that made me decide to tell only the people I had to tell. No one needs all that negative pressure from well-meaning family and friends. Something about the idea troubles them. That is their problem. Do whatever it takes, It's your life, your health, and well-being. Be polite, listen to their views. Smile and say I love you. Trying to make them see your side is probably futile anyway. You have to take charge and do what you know you must do. Don't let anyone stop you. You deserve to be healthy and happy. God bless you and good luck!

  20. Thin is a great feeling! It's trying on a new pair of jeans and smiling at the way they hug your butt! It's catching sight of your reflection in a storefront and thinking, "I look good!" It's feeling confident in a group of people knowing no one is wondering what the fat guy/gal is doing here. It's not dreading a blood pressure cuff! Thin feels better than any food tastes.
  21. I am so sorry! Medicare covers Bariatric surgery so I'm thinking you meet all criteria but your surgeon won't deal with Medicare. That is just wrong! Don't let this stop you! It's your life and your health. All I did was make a call and attend a seminar. There they determined if our insurance would cover expenses. Not everyone's did. Medicare does cover Bariatric surgery. Even if you are in the 35-40 BMI range with a co-morbidity. Don't give up!
  22. Hang in there! My PCP said she would refer me to a Bariatric Surgeon after she tried to talk me out of the idea. Nothing ever came of it. I did some research and found a very good Surgeon that my health plan would cover. I called them and went to the 1st seminar and found out more about the process. I too am in the 35+ BMI category but, I found I do have co-morbidities. I now have a tentative surgery date of Nov 8 awaiting my insurance company's approval. It's been a long process, but worth it! It's taken 4 months of nutrition classes, Psych evals, and endless internet research but I'm almost there. I have a plan for my post-op diet, supplements, and exercise. I am so ready for this! Stick with it! Don't let anyone or anything stop you. It's your life and your health. Take charge!
  23. I'm scheduled for Nov 8 and I understand exactly how you feel!
  24. Thanks for the warning! Just the thought of having my pants retreat to around my ankles is terrifying. I'm pretty sure the experience would keep me at home even more than now. In preparation, I'm going to dust off my sewing machine and happily contemplate the day I can begin taking in the clothes that I'm wearing now, pre-surgery. I'm at the very start of this process and finding this forum helps me handle the fear I wasn't anticipating. There will always be rude people with big mouths. How they must crave any sort of attention. Even to the point of almost everyone in a crowd thinking they're ignorant dickheads. I try hard to ignore these rude sorts. It doesn't shut them up but at least they don't get any more material for their obnoxious monologues. I hope someday they get to experience the other side of that coin. Oh to be a fly on the wall the day they are the object of public ridicule... We reap what we sow... rest assured they will get theirs eventually. Just saying...
  25. Rescue? I believe at that point it is more of a recovery mission... ew
