  2. I have to be at the hospital early tomorrow morning. In less than 12 hours, it will all be done. I have been pursuing this surgery for two years. Jumping through every hoop they produced. I won't actually believe it's going to happen until I am out of surgery! Exciting!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Thank you all for your support! It means so much. Yes, this surgery is right for me. You are right! I am a Grandma and I do want to get out of bed and live, not just exist. I know that tomorrow, everything changes. All for the good. I am nervous, scared of the pain and very anxious but so pleased that God has let me have this surgery. 4. @@LisaMergs I wonder what posts you read that contained "negative self talk" and requesting "pity"? I thought I had explained quite clearly that while I am disappointed in my daughter's decision to withdraw her support (and she has), I am making calm, decisive choices to make sure that this surgery is successful. That I accept her decision (I don't want to control anyone). But that I felt sad. And I do, I feel very sad as I miss hearing from her and my grandchildren, as I usually receive texts, photos and phone calls each day. Not to mention a whatsapp group conversation that starts and ends each day. My having this surgery against my family's wishes IS me being in control of my own life. I had to fight two years to get this op and I was gutted when I failed the pre op assessment. Thank goodness I finally scraped through! If I lost my surgery, then you really would have seen a self pitying post! No need to apologise, I think you must have misunderstood. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I feel like that too. I lost all my weight in 2006, then had a tummy tuck. I looked great. Then I gained it all back. So I have really beat myself up about abusing food. I live alone now so I can choose what food is in the house. That makes a big difference. Not having to buy food or cook food that is bad for me. I have every chance of success at losing the weight and maintaining the weight loss this time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Yes, I am in counselling. And I am being successful in my 800 calorie pre op diet. I can follow a routine, I like structure (former military). I have a very problematic bowel condition and eating small and often will really help. I know that this sleeve is merely a tool. Back in my day, they wired your jaw shut! lol. Now that I have started to break the cycle of overeating, carb addiction and needing huge portions of food, I have been concentrating on my emotional eating. Why I am hungry, when I am hungry. When I want to comfort eat, when I eat out of boredom, etc. I am sad that my family have let me down. But I have to do what I think is best for me. We were very close so I know this silence between us is sad for her too. I feel utterly alone and abandoned. I can't believe that she is going to let me go into surgery without her even calling to say good luck. I would never do that, not even to just a friend. So it's just me and Jesus! And that's what is important! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I think it will help me be more mobile. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome (my daughter doesn't believe in those syndromes either) so moving around is both painful and exhausting. I basically am 100 lbs overweight so it can only help me in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My surgery is on 31st of May. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. My daughter thinks that I have not given conventional dieting enough of a chance. She feels that I could lose weight normally if I tried harder. I explained that I am addicted to food, cannot stop overeating and that my disability prevents me from exercising. I now am 95% bedbound. She just sees this surgery as a shortcut to weightloss. Also she feels that after surgery that I will simply overeat again so it won't be successful. No, she is not obese. Thank you all for being so supportive, it really helps. 9. Because my daughter works fulltime and is a carer for my disabled grandson, I knew she wouldn't be available to offer any help after my surgery. So she knows I won't be a burden to her. I don't know what is disturbing her. I know that she has been doing some research because she has been telling me surgery horror stories and statistics. I never expected her to pull back from me this way, just when I need her support the most. Maybe the problem is that she is scared of losing me, who knows. I just feel sad. And it is embarrassing at the hospital to have to say that I have no one. They ask you not to bring your overnight bag on admission and to have your visitors bring it later during visiting hours. But I won't be having visitors so I have to take it with me on admission that morning. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. I am being sleeved on May 31st. My daughter is totally against me having surgery. So much so that she is scarcely speaking to me now. This has made me so sad. She says I am making a huge mistake and that I will have loads of loose skin and regret having the sleeve done. Now I am really scared. I don't want to lose my daughter and grandchildren but I feel that this sleeve will be the best tool for helping me lose the weight. I am disabled and struggle to exercise. I feel that I will regret it if I turn the surgery down. It's awful doing this all alone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. It's because my platelets are elevated. The nurse said not to worry about it six weeks ago. But now the pre op assessor won't approve me until the anaesthetist okays it. Problem is that the anaesthetist is on leave until the morning of my surgery! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I know what you mean. It is six days until my surgery date of the 31st but the pre op assessor won't approve me until she speaks to my anaesthetist who is on leave until my actual surgery. I am on the pre op diet which is hard enough but I am way stressed because I don't know if my surgery is going to take place. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. My surgery is on hold now due to an elevated platelet issue. Still have to be on the diet in case they operate anyway. Mine isn't liquid only but I am struggling. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Thanks all. Yes, I feel very low. And of course all my family that don't want me to have the sleeve are happy and hoping that I will stop fighting for the sleeve surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I am just so sad Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Failed my pre op assessment today. My bloodwork didn't pass. My sleeve is scheduled for the 31st but I won't know until the 27th if the surgeon will go ahead with a high platelet count. So upset. Mostly because my records show that my platelets were high consistently over the past year while on the bariatric pathway. I only found out today how high they have been. I brought this subject up in April and was told "not to worry" and that the team felt the high platelet count wasn't "significant". Then they blindside me today, ten days pre op. No one can "make a decision" due to work schedules so I have to simply wait it out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
