    Got a surgery date!

I finally have a date for surgery! January 4th, 2017 is the date! I am a bit nervous as I have never had surgery or been under anesthesia before but I'm looking forward to dropping this weight for good! The surgeon wants me to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery as he would like the liver to shrink to make it easier to get to the bits he needs to work with. This is me now but I am so looking forward to posting some after pics some time next year! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Me a couple weeks ago.....CW- 288 SW- 355
  3. Yeah, showing up on the right day is important. I had an appointment scheduled for a Tuesday and I mistakenly went there on Monday. Turns out it was Memorial Day and no one was around. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Brown sugar.

I was eating brown sugar flavored cream of wheat less than a week after surgery. But that doesn't mean that everyone can do that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Got a surgery date!

Congrats on getting this journey started! Do you mind my asking what your start height/weight were/are? Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App I'm 5'9 and I was around 365 or 370 when I started. I'm now around 345. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Got a surgery date!

My BMI is 52. It was 54 when I started the program so I did lose a little weight before. My surgeon wanted me to get down to 50 before surgery which I think I might just pull it off. :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Got a surgery date!

Thanks everyone. 12 days to go! Doing liquid diet for 2 weeks to shrink liver so I got a tub of Phood Meal Replacement powder, and some Soup, yogurt, v8, juice, and oatmeal. I'm starving.....lol. It's all worth it though. :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Less than two weeks and counting!

I've been telling everyone on Facebook and have heard nothing but positivity back about it. I'm not sure why people would choose to be negative about it but those people are not worth your time, imo. Kind of hard when it's family though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. January 4th is my surgery date. It's not December but it's close to your date. I've never had surgery or been under anesthesia before so it should be interesting. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My age and starting weight...anyone close?

I am in the program now through Mayo Clinic. I started out at 408 lbs and am 35 yrs old. I now weigh around 370 (with a goal of around 350 before surgery) and that is just the weight loss/exercise portion of the program. I don't even have a surgery date yet. Will figure that out once I finish all the requirements of the program. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I see some people choosing to keep their surgery private. Who do you choose to share that info with? I find myself advertising it all over Facebook and to people I know that I'm in a bariatric program since I like the positive encouragement. Have had nothing but positive comments so far. :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    PCP Appointment Advice?

I did not have a PCP when entered the program and they have 2 that work with the bariatric team so they are unlikely to try things unrelated to the surgery. Glad I don't have an outside one like you do who might give me a hard time. Glad it worked out so far though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Who do you share the news with?

I figured that telling everyone makes me more accountable, since they will be expecting me to make progress. Some of us need that extra push to keep on track. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I think I have a date!

My date is Monday March 28th I'm doing the DS but I'm only doing one day liquid diet on Sunday all day and nothing to drink/eat after midnight. I'm excited scared n nervous all @ the same time. But good luck n best wishes to you. God got us all protected! Sent from my SM-G386T using the BariatricPal App Wow, I didn't think anyone did BP/DS anymore! Usually that's only reserved for extremely high BMI. And even then, most insurances won't cover it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    DENIED!

I'm so glad I chose a local company as my h.m.o instead of a giant like UHC. The large corporations are always out to screw people. My local provider has a good relationship with the surgeons in the area and will usually approve whatever is medically necessary without any headaches. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I want to be able to exercise without getting winded right away. I also would like to go hiking in different areas and maybe take up a martial art. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I was thinking sleeve at first because my sister had a sleeve and my mom is getting one. But I'm much heavier than they are and I believe I need more than just a restrictive procedure. My surgeon says if you are going to get weight loss surgery, then you should get the procedure that will provide the best results. In my case, that's RNY. 18. The insurance I have is a local h.m.o, and my surgeon said that they are pretty good about approving anything that the medical team deems necessary. And I don't even have to do a diet but my surgeon wants me to do 3 months so I can lose at least 30lbs prior to surgery. I'm 368 and he wants me around 340 before surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Instragram and "coming out of the closet"

I've just started the journey towards gastric bypass and I'm telling everyone about it on Facebook. Over 30 replies and they were all positive so far. Not a single negative, and if someone like that does come along, they get blocked. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
