  1. Thank you! I have decided to wait until after my trip to have the surgery. I can't risk it.. I have been to Paris before, but only for a day and a half.. so I didn't get to see everything I wanted to. I love exploring and sometimes end up walking 10 miles or so a day.. I want to have the energy to do that!
  2. I had lapband surgery in 07' so I kind of remember all of the pain and grumpiness. I lost 140 pounds with it, but unfortunately it slipped and I had to have it removed. I just now got the nerve up to do the gastric sleeve, hopefully I will have no problems this time around. I'm ready to get healthy again.
  3. You're right. I would probably be a weepy miserable mess. I get grumpy now traveling on a plane for that long. And who can go to Paris without being tempted by chocolate croissants!
  4. I wasn't so much worried about the pain, as I was not having the energy to enjoy! And the chance that something could go wrong and that I would need medical care. So while I know everyone is different there is no way to tell how I will feel 2 weeks after. Thanks for all of the replies, and telling me your experiences! I'm not going to risk it! I want to enjoy my week in Paris.
  5. So if everything looks good after my EGD on August 18th my Doctor can get me into surgery on the 25th. The thing is I already have a trip to Paris planned, and paid for. Will be leaving on September 12th. The nurse I talked to said I should be fine, but I'm not sure 2 weeks will be enough time to recover. Has anyone else travelled that soon after?
  6. Just a little about myself. In 2007 I decided to change my life. At age 34 I found myself weighing 300 pounds. I got a lap band in November, and by July of 2008 I was at a healthy weight losing over 140 pounds. I felt and looked great. Then my band decided to slip and it just went downhill from there. I ended up having to have it completely removed by 2010. I kept the weight off for a while, but eventually it just creeped back up on me. Here I am 43 and 280 pounds. I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and it has scared the crap out of me. I made the decision to have the gastric sleeve, my insurance is paying most, and I am approved by care credit for the rest. My EGD is next Friday and they are scheduling me for surgery on the 25th.. it's moving so fast, and I am having terrible anxiety. Has anyone used Dr. McCarty in Dallas? I know this is the best thing I can do for my health, why am I so scared? It's like a scared to have it, scared not to have it type thing. Any advice or success stories would be greatly appreciated! 7. Dr. Barker did my surgery on November 1, 2007 and I am really pleased with the results. I have lost 57lbs and counting. Sometimes the office is REALLY busy, but if you're just in there for a fill it's usually pretty quick. My insurance required me to visit him monthly for 3 months prior, before they would even approve me.. so I got all my questions answered then. If you don't feel comfortable, it can be pretty scary! I would just schedule another appointment, and wouldn't leave until all my questions were answered. I wish you luck on your journey, it's a crazy ride but so worth it.
