caffeine withdrawal
I agree....that's why I'll be discussing this with my surgeon.....now I just need to get him to "recommend" what I want him to...haha and no I don't put any of those things in my coffee!

I'm so glad I posted this topic! I feel so much better now!

caffeine withdrawal
I am certainly going to be asking my surgeon and NUT about this........I don't want to give it up unless it is really needed. I don't over do it....in my opinion anyway.. I have a 12oz cup of coffee in the morning and a diet coke at lunch and dinner.....Now I know I'll have to give up the diet cokes and I can replace those with tea without it being too bad....but I want to keep my three doses of caffeine...

I think I'm Failing...Miserably :(
The reason we all need this surgery is we can't do it on our own. Don't beat yourself up! Just because you are having difficulty now doesn't mean you'll have this trouble post surgery. You're not a failure!!!! Keep your head up. Maybe you'll be surprised and they'll actually give you a date! Positive thoughts coming your way!!!

Not sleeping during the sleep study
wow! That is mild....at least to what I have to compare it to....My husband has sleep apnea and during his sleep study he had 78 episodes!!! That was more than a year and a half ago. He has slept soundly from day one with his machine.

Humana Insurance?
I'll just say this.....if you don't have any other qualifying conditions it's important that when you are weighed during your initial visit with the surgeon that you have an BMI of at least 40....

BCBSTX approved now refuse payment!
Still sounds like a mess. hopefully it'll all get straightened out....the good thing is you've already had your surgery and they can't take it back... :-) I still feel positive about your situation. Surely it's just a misunderstanding somewhere. Keep us updated. Good luck!

caffeine withdrawal
Be strong! :-) However, if you have to give in to one it's probably the least destructive. I'm going to try doing it gradually....I mixed decaf with regular equal parts this morning......and each week I'll try to use less and less of the regular....That's my plan!!

caffeine withdrawal
Most all diets I've been on in the past say "no caffeine" but I've never followed that......I've always said "I know I'm addicted to caffeine, and I'm willing to live it"....haha....Anyway, with the previous diets I never really saw a reason to have to cut the caffeine.....But with this I can certainly see that because caffeine is a diuretic it should be cut, especially at first....I think you'll have a hard enough time getting enough Fluid in without having a diuretic in your system......So that's the main reason I see for stopping.....is there anything else? Any post op folks out there that didn't cut out the caffeine??

caffeine withdrawal
So I'm still a ways out for surgery.....it should be sometime in May. But I thought I'd try to start getting off caffeine, so this morning my coffee was basically half and half. I mix on pound of decaffeinated coffee with one pound of my favorite flavored coffee......and now I have a pounding headache.....How long does it usually take to get off caffeine and not have the terrible withdrawal headaches?

Surprised at how fat I am
I also really relate to this post......I guess I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I've always known I was overweight but sort of always told myself it's "not that bad"......when I'm out and I see other women that look overweight I always wonder if I'm smaller or larger than her.....I've never asked anyone (haha) but it always goes through my head. It makes me feel crazy! Pictures and full length mirrors always seem to tell the truth.....I do my best to stay out of pictures! I'm so ready to not have to feel this way!!!

Vertical sleeve or bypass?
On the other hand if you have a problem with heartburn and gerd prior to surgery make sure your surgeon knows that....I certainly understand the thought that by-pass is more drastic but you don't want to have sleeve and end up having to have it revised to by-pass because of gerd.....just talk it over with your surgeon and let them advise you based on your individual needs and condition. best of luck to you!!!

Good luck Craig! Let us know how you're doing as soon as you can.

Vertical sleeve or bypass?
I had that same feeling.....I just felt by-pass was a little too drastic. I talked it over with my doc and he agreed that sleeve was my best option.

BCBSTX approved now refuse payment!
Also, I noticed your profile say's you're in CA....but you mention BCBS of TX. If you're coverage is with the TX plan but your surgery was done in CA, the claim will be processed by the CA plan but using the Texas guidelines....through a program referred to as "BlueCard" It's possible the wires got crossed between the two plans.....call your plan and ask for a supervisor......an upset member calling sometimes is all it takes.......but upset, verses mad will work much better.

Do you have a copy of your approval letter? did they approve the specific procedure or just WLS in general? Your doctor should be preparing an appeal....Contact them (surgeon) and ask if in their request for approval they specified which procedure they were doing.....ask them if they are submitting an appeal......Try to not stress, I work in the insurance business and I think you'll be okay....The most important thing is did they request approval for the specific procedure, and I can't imagine getting an approval if they didn't do that....The only problem would be if they got an approval for one procedure but they performed something different.....Your insurance didn't have any changes after your approval did it? You can also call your insurance company and ask why it was denied after being pre-approved, but your surgeon will probably have better luck because the appeal will require all the medical records and such.... Best of luck!.....

What if BMI falls >40 on pre-op diet?
What I was told is by the time I start any pre-op diet I will already be approved at that stage so no worries......now if your plan requires a 3 or 6 month supervised diet that'll be something else....thankfully my insurance doesn't require that.

March 28th Sleevers, here we go!
hahah really good pain meds huh? I'm glad you're doing well. Get some rest!

My Insurance doesnt cover WLS but......
Yes the others are right.....if WLS is not covered by your plan then they will not pay anything.... there would be no way you could meet your deductible if the surgery is not covered.....non-covered services do not apply to the deductible....I work in the insurance business. Please make sure to get clarification from them....and ask for it in writing. The doctor's office can also check your benefits for you. Good luck.
