  1. Hello RNYers! After initial consultation with my surgeon, he highly recommended that I pursue gastric bypass rather than sleeve given my high starting BMI. I had gone into the meeting set on the sleeve; needless to say, I am now looking at RNY as I trust his medical opinion and evaluation of my health. I am curious about those of you who have had RNY, specifically your starting weight/BMI and your progress to date. So...I invite those of you who feel comfortable to share your before and after RNY pics and progress. Thanks to you all! Dev
  2. You look absolutely amazing!!!
  3. Oh wait, you already said "Kaiser." Whoops! Ha! What area do you live in? I live in the Central Valley and they're sending me to Fremont.
  4. Hi there! By any chance, are you doing yours through Kaiser? Where do you live?

Hey there....WOW. Talk about feeling ambushed. I don't think that people really get how personal this is for us. There seems to be a sense of entitlement to your personal information which is not okay. It is your right to never have to disclose what you aren't comfortable disclosing. I really admire your integrity in the moment and can only imagine the violated feeling you probably experienced. Truth is, this is YOUR business and nobody else's. Obese people deal with enough discrimination already without having to tell the worked when they're trying to improve their health. At this time, you need peace of mind without others crossing that boundary line! Once you go further through your journey, it's up to you who you share with. Just my two cents. I'm feeling you on this. Always with Love and Compassion, Dev
  6. YOU LOOK AMAZING!!! Gon' head on girl!!!
  7. Looking GOOD LilTink!!!! You look so amazing!!!
  8. Thank you guys so much! A part of me feels as though there is going to come a day when I'll be so elated that I made this leap! I can't stop envisioning it!
  9. I've had several of these moments over the years, but more recently, I began to think, "I've seriously got to do something" when I changed around the furniture in my living room. I arranged the couch facing a very large mirror on the opposing wall. I began to finally get a glimpse of how I actual look sitting when I would see my reflection from across the room. Particularly, I noticed my stomach and how far out in front of me it stretched. I honestly couldn't believe it. I literally cringed every time I'd see it. I also turned down traveling with friends out of fear that I'd slow them down and embarrass myself (I turned down Disneyland for Pete's sake!) Coincidentally, a friend of mine who had sleeve surgery a few years back, began to share her journey with me
  10. Hello Everyone! So I'm very new to this online support forum, and I already feel as though I know a bunch of you guys already! Reading your stories and comments has been amazing. My medical coverage is through Kaiser Permanente, and I attended their general information session and my PCP placed a bariatric referral which was approved (referral only, not necessarily the surgery). I am scheduled to attend an actual orientation this week on Thursday, and I feel like I'm already counting down the days. My partner will accompany me to provide support and ask a TON of questions (she's still in that "Are you sure you haven't tried everything possible for your weight?" part of her process). I thought I'd post and get into the habit of staying connected to this support, and in doing so, I'd like to introduce myself to you all and share a brief bit about my journey. Here goes: I am 31-years-old, I've traveled around the world, I'm educated, have a loving partner of 11 years, I'm a Mental Health Therapist, I have 2 awesome dogs (my babies), I have wonderful friends, and I come from a large family. I also happen to have a BMI of 59. Isn't it interesting how many of us look good "on paper," yet there's always that ONE thing that seems to hold us back in every other way? My hope is that this journey will represent that second shot at life. It's great to be here with you all.
  11. @@careya123, I felt frustrated just reading your post on this. I think what some practitioners miss is the fact that we have been in our bodies since we were born, and there comes a time (usually by adulthood) when we begin to better understand our bodies and what it responds to. Simply put, it seems as though you may be in need of a new GP/PCP. Fortunately, it isn't all too difficult to select a new one that is aligned with your goals and desired outcomes. I'm wishing you the best!
  12. It's amazing how much younger you appear after meeting your goal. AMAZING!!!
  13. Very beautiful progress!!! Such a breath of fresh air!
  14. I hear you, Pink. Sometimes, we respond in different ways to different things (images, comments from others, memories that trigger us, etc). I totally understand where you're coming from.
