Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?
I'm sitting here, reading back through this thread, and worrying about my youngest child, a son. He is only 15 and quite frankly I don't think he has even begun true puberty yet. ( No voice change, no armpit hair, you guys know what I mean). He is built completely differently from his brother and sister, both tall, lithe, in great shape. This child has always been the most active, but over the last two years, without getting much taller yet (5'4" compared to his brother who was 6' at this point), he has certainly become stockier. Definitely "chubby". I have a younger brother who has been obese since he was 9. At 40 he weighs well over 400 lbs. and is only 5'6". I FEAR DAILY that Patrick is taking after his uncle- the difference being I don't allow for the constant junk my brother was allowed to consume while he remained sedentary his whole life. But the genetics are there- and my biggest fear is that he will have to deal with this during his lifetime. I was never overweight until I became sick, immobile from pain and on huge doses of steroids for 9 years, but I had to work at keeping myself trim and fit before that- I recall the summer before my first year of high school while working at an ice cream parlor my mom saying to me "you better not eat too much of that ice cream or they will be singing roll Out the barrel to you when you start school." I weighed all of 108 lbs at that time. Parents comments on their children's weight have huge consequences. They must choose their words carefully. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Our Year From Hell....
We have tried Medicaid and she was approved starting this month, but they will not pay any past medical bills. So sorry for your difficulties. Praying for you. As for the bills- file bankruptcy. See an attorney and get a fresh start. Too many others do it " just because". To me, it seems like it would make a world of difference in your lives and you are who it was designed for- a tool to help you make a new go at it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Other than drinks/soup, what do you mix your Genepro into?
Any way you can start carrying the Protein2O ready to drink? Tons of people can't find in their local stores. Their toll free number is 855-290-7820 I was just at their offices - turns out they are near me- and what a wonderful company!!! Very committed to producing a good- tasting, pure, low cal drink. May be worth a phone call? I think the people here would benefit from the addition of a Protein drink that is lighter than a shake and who have a hard time locating it. I'm in love!
Strange, I can't stand that stuff, but I'm the odd man out who likes Isopure. Well there is a butt for every seat I guess. I just found out today that they reformulated and rebranded it. Taste profile completely different - may want to give it another go. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm in love, Part 2- Protein2O
So, more on my post about Protein2O- I was really interested in purchasing a case of this goodness and found their FB page and then their website. I ordered a case via Amazon- they're offering free shipping and $4.20 off a case right now but saw them out of stock. Well, I ordered it anyway, would ship in a week, but decided to do some more sleuthing. I was shocked beyond belief to find them literally in my backyard!!! Seriously I could ride my bike to their office/warehouse. I called and the lovely guy invited me to come over and sample the other flavors- so I did!! An amazing company! They are doing costco roadshows currently, so you all may find it there, too! The coconut- which I was not going to purchase- amazing! Add rum and call it a piña colada lol. All flavors- wonderful. We chatted for quite awhile, and as I was leaving he gave me a HUGE stack of coupons for store use! Great customer service ???? I'm glad they re-branded the bottles as I would have walked past the old ones. And apparently they also reformulated they taste profile. I'm also glad that I tasted the "new" version. I would say- if you haven't found them near you, look at Amazon as he told me they just shipped them 120 cases and they will have them shortly. Also overheard that Walmart.com will have them shortly. But I think the thing to do if you can't find them is ask your local grocery store/ health shop to order it in for you. You will have readily available supply that way! Tried cottage cheese for the first time - help me jazz it up
Any spice store has wonderful spice "blends". There is a Thai coconut one I adore- as well as pesto blends, etc. All can be added to cottage cheese to give it a little zip- tiny amounts (scant) work, and as you transition to other foods, like chicken, you can continue using them to create different recipes. InstaPot and Pressure Cooker Question?
I COULD NOT live without my pressure cooker!!! I too use the instant release method. Mine is electric as well, so I can sauté any veggies like onion in the bottom first and then add the rest. Heck! I dump frozen veggies on top of everything right in the begin inane have a table ready meal in 30 minutes! With a family of five- kids in sports, tons of running around, I would not have survived the last few years without it!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Revision from VSG to RNY Due to GERD
I had horrid GERD prior to surgery. Luckily, no signs of damage to my esophagus. I went right to RNY and had a short bout around month 3, but before and since no issues. At 5 months now. Can't imagine doing one procedure and then switching to another. Perhaps with sleeve you have more freedom in terms of food types you can consume, but for me, bypass was the best choice. No regrets. Black bean tomato chicken stew
So- made this for dinner tonight and thought I would share. Need- 4 bone in chicken breasts or leg/thigh piece 1 large can black Beans 1 large can tomato sauce ( not spaghetti sauce!) 2 small or one large onion 3 cloves garlic 1/2 c minced giardiniera in oil 3 tbl olive oil Salt and pepper In large deep fry pan with lid, add olive oil, diced onions and garlic. Sauté til onions are soft. Season with S and P Wash and pat dry chicken pieces, season with pepper, and lightly brown in onion and garlic in pan. Add one whole can of black beans, including liquid, one can of tomato sauce, 1/2 c of giardiniera cover and simmer on med for one hour. Remove and set aside chicken, reduce heat and simmer slowly to thicken sauce- about 10 min. Serve alone, or as in my case for my hubby and kids, with Pasta. Spoon sauce and beans over chicken and enjoy! Simmering... Strained oil from pot... Removed skin... Chicken set aside while reducing liquid... Serve and enjoy!! (for me minus the pasta) Oh! Some nice Parmesan on top is delish! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Is Eating Fruit Like Eating Candy?
I was actually admonished by my NUT for not eating fruit every day. Her belief is akin to yours- our bodies need the nutrients found naturally in them. Her suggestion was veggies with two meals and fruit with one. I stick to cantaloupe, blueberries and strawberries for the most part. Have had watermelon but it gives me a bit of a tummy ache. Honeydew I can't do. Have not touched an apple yet but someone online here suggested grating them so I'm going to try that. Raw banana? Nope. But I have a food dehydrator and slice them, dehydrate them, and will munch on a few chips if I need to crunch. However, I draw the line at beets. They will not pass my lips lol. Thank you again for a wonderful post!

Post op regrets topics - not popular
Ridiculous. My child's OPINION on my situation pre op, does not make it fact! Nor does it change this actual topic. You can't "help" me like a sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I find it odd that you quote and reply to this message, yet you blatantly ignore being called out for the discrepancies in your own statements... I'm thinking you need to take this to your local news instead of here, Gina. Whatever you are going through, this will not make you a "whistleblower", and whomever you choose to "take on" here is really of no service to you. No one here can help you or your situation. No one here can change your healthcare access or treatment protocols. Perhaps actually standing up and shedding light where it has the most impact- in your community- would be the most prudent choice. You mentioned having OT's move you. I don't understand why they are in charge of your housing? Perhaps you are on some type of government assistance and housing- which is fine, I pass no judgement on that. However, perhaps a move to an area that has better hospital service would be a consideration. If you stood back a moment and realized that your retorts back to people here is what stirs the proverbial hornets nest, you'd come to see that your silence would, indeed, stop the insanity this has become. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes they are in charge because I am disabled and my current housing is unsuitable. I have already said that I am going to other hospitals where available. Chicken and egg. They post, I post. People come here to this thread, I never ever comment on other people's threads anymore as I have been hated on since I declared that I dislike my sleeve. If it is insanity, it is other people causing it. If you like your sleeve, don't comment on me disliking mine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App This is my point, exactly. I said nothing inflammatory to you- simply suggested that you might be better served voicing your issues where they have the most impact- in the community where you reside. However, you choose to be nasty and confrontational. And for what it is worth? I don't like or dislike my sleeve since I don't have one. I'm a bypass patient and loving every second of it! Mic drop. Let's talk meat post op RNY. Please
I promise You guys are going to love this! My doctor is fine with coffee. And at my last appt, he suggested I consider adding oats and POPCORN to my diet. And this from a doctor who is normally against these types of carbs. I think he wants my weight loss to slow a tad. And meats are weird, so much variability. I can eat shrimp and scallops, but not crab. I can eat chicken, pork and steak, but cant tolerate any ground meats! The ground meats are the most confusing. My theory is because no mater how much I chew ground meat I can never get it to a near Water like consistency before swallowing like I can with other cuts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I actually enjoy popcorn occasionally. It has to be a specific brand, called Slim Kim's. Any other brand bothers me, Including home made. I actually find it stirs up my metabolism a bit- perhaps by confusing my body- and breaks any stall I am in- and it stimulates the bowels when it's been too long between them. I'm not suggesting this for anyone else, just seems to work for me. Ground meats? Same issue. Can't tolerate them at ALL. Hey!! Here's a riddle for you-- what happens when you mix a Spartan with a Wildcat? Somehow or another you end up with a Hawkeye. Lol. Having that put in a Tshirt for parents weekend at Iowa. Did they provide you with an "expected" weight loss
My doc didn't give me an "expected". His Nurse Practitioner did, and her number had me at 180. I'm sitting here at 5 mos post op at 181. What surprised me was when I saw my doc at the 3 mo post op visit he said to buckle up because I was entering the "sweet spot" after surgery, and that the greatest loss comes between months 3-9. Told me to make the most of it and keep up the good work. By those calculations, I have 4 more months in the sweet spot and think reaching my "perfect" weight of 140 is very do-able. If I don't make it that low? So what. I feel wonderful!!! And THAT is what counts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
