I'm going through puberty again.
I'm not sure this is correct. I don't wanna be a 'know-it-all' and of course I most certainly could be wrong. My understanding is that ghrelin (the hunger hormone) is not altered with the Band. It is significantly changed/deleted with RNY as that part of the stomach is "cut off" from the rest. Ghrelin is highest before we eat (stimulating hunger) and is lowest after we eat. With the LapBand, there should not be any changes in hormone production/release other than what would naturally occur with weight loss. I had talked to my surgeon about this once before, but now that you say this, I will ask again tomorrow when I see him. ~C

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...
It's called Stomaphyx. It is being used currently to correct RNY complications where they've stretched their pouches. It is experimental for a WLS by itself. There are some wrinkles to iron out yet, but the prospect is looking very good. It's a very cool little tool, and it used with an EGD scope so no incisions! My surgeon says there are many new options on the horizon in the Bariatric/Weight Loss Surgery arena. Many are still in trials. I think there will be lots of options for 'us' in the future. Maybe just in time for our bands to fail! LOL ~C

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...
I too was given the Band over any other type of WLS because of my cancer. I'm so grateful that so many were looking out for me. The doctors wanted me to have something adjustable for "just in case" I ever needed to gain weight (right now I can't imagine that! LOL) green: I'm sorry about your diagnosis. Let me know if you just wanna chat. ~C

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Wow Stef, I'm sorry you are going through this. I didn't realize you were having problems to that degree. I don't mean to sound dumb, but how does that happen so quickly? Wouldn't stretching the pouch take time? Doesn't it hurt? Did you know when it happened? ~C

Calling all April Bandsters!!!!
Your welcome! I swear I felt better immediately. I guess I just wasn't like so many who were fortunate enough not to be hungry! I was in Bandster Hell 2 days post op. LOL Anyway, I'm glad you're gonna call. Hope you get some relief. ~C

Calling all April Bandsters!!!!
I can't remember what day you were banded? The 10th? I was on the 10th and was very hungry pretty much from like day 2. I followed the rules, but was miserable for until day 5 when I asked my doctor and dietician why I was so hungry. They both said "oh, most people aren't hungry, but go ahead and advance to"...blah, blah, blah. I felt so much better almost immediately. I am SO GLAD I ASKED!!!!! Please talk to your doctor. Just call. The worst they could say is NO!! ~C

Yes TX, I'm feeling better! I am starting to feel how the band works. I am a little sore at the port site, but am getting through it just fine! Thanks for asking! Ummmm, I can't stand all those little acronyms either. My 16 year old daughter knows all of them. So just to be annoying, I regularly send her text messages with made up spellings and sign it. They are usually something like this: Diju tlk to ur coach? C U at home, ur BFF Mom! She usually calls me then saying, "what is wrong with you?!" LOL

After surgery check in for Avengers!
I'm so glad to hear that Leslie! I was wondering how your week has gone. Hopefully you can have something more to drink/eat than clears and get walking!! I too was banded on the 10th. I am back to work and doing well. I am a little sore at my port site, mainly muscular pain though when I move certain ways. I am starting to feel the benefits of the band. There was a carry-in at work and I didn't eat any of it!! I stuck to my packed little itty bitty lunch and got full right away! So far, I just love my little band! ~C

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...
Why would your insurance cover all these tests for your pre-existing condition? If you truely had a LIFE THREATENING problem, you would worry about money and insurance coverage after you recovered!! I'm sure that many lawyers would be chasing you down to take part in the enormous settlement you'd be getting! I don't appreciate the use of the words life threatening when you are clearly not in that position. Life threatening would infer that you can't breathe, are bleeding to death, your heart has stopped, you are in shock, etc. It is usually imminent and if not addressed within minutes, you'll DIE. Ports just popping out of skin, punctured colons, and all this "more on that later" stuff is just strange. I really hope you wouldn't make up such craziness for a little attention.

If I were thinner I'd.....
I want to climb a mountain! Longs Peak to be exact. And I'd like to wear a T-shirt and underwear around the house and not be self conscious (I haven't done that for years!)!!!! oh, and lots of SEX! ~C

mushie stage early
Please talk to your doctor!!! Sometimes they give you permission to move on and sometimes they won't. You should ask though, you never know what they'll say, but just don't do it without permission!!! I was banded on the 10th and I was STARVING so I called the doctor and the dietician and they let me move up from "applesauce" consistency to "pudding". Doesn't sound like anything big, but I gotta tell you I feel so much better today! I am very careful to follow the rules exactly and I am actually full on 2 oz. now! LOL Let me know what happens when you call your doc tomorrow! (wink) ~C

Do you have words that irritate you?
Okay, I found this for you! :rolleyes2: Although many tourists and foreigners favor say "ka-rib-e-an," this is a corruption of "ker-e-be-an," the accurate pronunciation truest to how the Caribs ("ker-ibs") pronounce their own name. The regional beer (Carib) is pronounced "kar-ib," not "ka-rib-eh." By the way, the Caribs say "po-ta-tow," not "po-tot-tow," and they should know. Potato is a Carib word adopted into English. Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
J: LOL I'll bet you did! I'm feeling better as of yesterday. I amped up my meals a little, and was given permission to have "pudding" consistancy instead of "applesauce". It helped, so I spared my keyboard, the wallpaper, my shoes... There's a ride tonight. I can't go and it's beautiful out. Guess I'll go walking.

Calling all April Bandsters!!!!
Welcome all you new AVENGERS! It's good to see everyone so active. I am improving every day. I am still hungry, but was given the "go ahead" to thicken things up a little to hopefully make me feel better. I DO feel better and it doesn't take but the 2 oz allowed to fill me up! It's amazing! I loved my band long before I got it, but I can see something special developing here! LOL ~C

Biggest Loser
I was so shocked and ELATED that Bernie won over Mark! I just couldn't stand Mark and his bad attitude, how he treated everyone and all that BOO-HOOING!!! Geez-man! Bernie always had class, and he looked terrific! I kinda wanted Kelly to win, but I knew once I saw Ali she'd beat her. She looked amazing! She left the campus having already lost 99 pounds, so she only had to lose another 6 lbs to win the contest! Her dress rocked, but I could've done without the feather!!! LOL ~C

Oh. Well, thank you for explaining it to me. I'm not sure that I like that idea either. Maybe it was put back there to encourage people to be nice to eachother. I don't think I like the idea of a popularity contest though.
