  1. Do you know your insurance requirements? My bmi stayed right on the line the whole 3 months because i knew aetna would deny me under 40, all companies are not that strict. Relax one thing i know those surgical teams know how to get that money. If they are confident you should be to. Good luck!!
  2. What i i found so far is my friends don't know what to do with me. I am 3 months post op so no drinking, I'm no longer excited or on the hunt for what restaurant, has the biggest portions for the best price. WLS has forced be to find a way to be social without food and liquor. My friends don't have to,k ive been told they feel bad if they are getting plastered and i cant. I have to keep explaining that drinking and food isnt that big of a deal, if i enjoy your company that is all that matters. But to someone who has not had surgery trying to explain that is hard. Also for the overweight friends especially if they are bigger than where you started, getting WLS (fixing yourself ), is like saying that they need to be "fixed". keep in mind its an adjustment for them too. This may sound nerdy but think about the movie Xmen...( not saying we are mutants ) But those who wanted the "CURE" were looked at as traitors. How dare you want to fix yourself right ?
  3. So after my 3 week stall and 5lb regain i freaked out and hid the scale(195-198). Didn't weigh again until 8/5 at the doctors office (186). On that day i was happy so i put the scale back in the bathroom. What fresh hell did i put myself into 185-186 haunted me the whole month no matter what i did... So between fb and here i started getting frustrated at those dropping weight constantly without one drop of exercise and im killing myself in the gym 5 days a week and could not drop one lb. i wanted to stop going and just say forget it. Instead i skipped the gym and went outside for a few days, got some sun , hit the track , even raced my 3 year old a few times...today 179!!!!! bye 80's hello 70's i guess my body was just tired of the same old gym routine everyday.
  4. Ready to drink.comes in caramel as well Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
  5. just to add i did the whole say good bye to junk food thing way before my first visit cause my insurance company does not allow any gain at all, and i refused to be denied over weight that is the only part of this process thats totally in your control. use this time to show restraint when bad things happen find a new outlet , it will help after when you cant stuff yourself to feel better
  6. Worst case you may have to do another month weigh in so 7 instead of 6. this really depends on your insurance not the surgeon, do you have a written copy of what they require. Some companies just want you to weigh less than the initial weigh in , some want NO GAIN AT ALL. you would need to get that information so you wont be blindsided at the end . Good luck
  7. FAIRLIFE chocolate + Premier Protein banana= yummy yum yum After surgery i could not tolerate even the smell of shakes, and being lactose intolerant my options were not exactly tasty.. but ohhh mmmmm gggggg these two together . just wanted to share
  8. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/184423-african-american-sleevers/?view=findpost&p=4247206&hl=%2Bafrican+%2Bamerican
  9. Not sure she understands the loc concept. But there are answers to your question on another thread its a a long one so you will have to search it. its a thread for African american sleevers. I did the big chop and am starting my loc process in jan by that time hopefully and shedding would have come and gone. i am 3 months out from surgery and nothing other than the regular shed after detangling
  10. Did wls lead to a change in career? i ask because with all that i went through to get insurance approval, and the constant changes in diet, and even just being on this site i realize that so many people are uninformed when it come to diet and nutrition. I'm seriously considering going back to school to be a Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian in either SC or GA. did anyone else go into a field that is Bariatric related or just changed career paths in general as a result of wls? I think the thing that is driving me to this is how much of a struggle it is for some after surgery. And how i want to be a success story and when i do i want to be able to help others do so as well
  11. I will be 3 months out on 9/1 and i am on my second stall so far its been a month long
  12. Sounds like im not the only one that was looking for her initial "rapid weight loss". but a good point was made in this thread no matter how slow its moving its still faster than it ever has been in life for me anyways. I started at a bmi of around 45 ish. surgery 6/1 so ill be 3 months out in 4 days i have yet to hit 30lbs down right around 26-27i think. yet i have a buddy how had surgery 2 weeks ago and has already loss 25lb. The big difference is she has about 200 to drop to hit her weight goal i have about 41 left(to the first goal) .Its hard not to compare journeys, or at least be envious of those with rapid weight loss or a penis in this case, but keep on trucking
  13. A weight loss forum is the only place in the entire universe that will ever say "200 lbs isn't that heavy". it seems like today ive read a lot of "low" starting weights and low bmi posts. What baffles me is, most people's biggest regret is not doing this sooner, yet so many are confused at why a person would consider this at a "low weight"( whatever that is ). I say have at it . Why wait . For the most part I don't think anyone is opting to have major surgery just for shits and giggles. Some are concerned that instead of people doing this as a last resort , that its being done for vanity. Can we be honest here, yes most of us have medical problems that weight loss can fix or even save our lives BUT WHO DOESNT WANT TO LOOK GOOD? me 4'11 hw226 w 212 cw186 surgery 6/1
  14. Personal preference i kicked out big money this year on wls surgery so don't need to spend money on a trainer to loose weight.. What i need a trainer for is tone, weight lifting, crossfit intense workouts etc.. Plus I'm obsessive over that number on the scale and weight training will make it go up... So i need to be happy with that number first Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
  15. so finally saw my nut and surgeon 186 now and they are cool with my food and calories but agrees that I have to get more water in , and add fiber to my diet even if it means increasing carbs by 20grams or so
  16. So I am now 41 lbs from goal. I am determined to bring my new year in with a bang, I think I can mange 10 lbs a month . For new years I want a trainer to work on tightening and tone. But cant do so unless im within 15 lbs of my goal weight. Plus ill be able to try a little drinking for new years as that is my 6 month mark, so what a thing to Celebrate. What are your 2016 goals? have you already met them ?exceeded them? Please share
  17. I don't drink any other liquids.. Just Water the big issue is work my breaks aren't scheduled it's when i can go... So I'll stop drinking at 12 so i can eat at my 1230 break but might not get to go until 130 so that's and hour or so i could be drinking plus when i finally go i still have a wait to drink when i get back.. 18. Again I had the same question about the exercise program. What my surgeons office did is when I went to my weight management (behavior modification ) class we had to fill out a sheet each time, Containing what are daily activity is like what we are doing for exercise and how long...we also made a food goal like cutting sweet tea , or reducing carbs.. I wouldn't count you out yet over those 3 lbs what is your current bmi? I ask cause even though I had to not gain weight I did not have much wiggle room to loose either . But if you are able to stay above the required bmi with no issue push as hard as you can to drop 5 before the next visit. and do not gain another lb if possible. I was so obsessed about this part cause i knew this was the one part of the approval process that was totally up to me. Aetna is strict about the weight gain but make sure its documented somewhere that either you are on a certain med that makes you gain , Water weight , cycle time etc.
  19. I agree during my process I went up 1or 2 on one of my non weigh in visits I made sure I was down at least 4 by the next visit. 48 hour liquid diets and laxatives (which im not recommending) kept me right on the dot the whole time
  20. During my process I emailed Aetna and asked for clarification on this the response I got back: Thank you for using the secure member website to contact Aetna. To help protect your confidential information, please continue to use the secure member website to contact us. This online form provides greater security than standard Internet e-mail. The CPB's can be highly technical. Members and consumers should review the information in the CPBs with their doctors so that they may more fully understand them. The net gain means that you can not gain any weight during the 90 days. You will need to ensure that this surgery is precertified, prior to it being performed. 21. very helpful I am going to ask my team for something like this seems like good guidelines
  22. Thank you all for such a quick response. I do have a chart to keep measurements but I have to admit I have missed a week or 2 . Not staying consistent is one of my struggles that lead me here. the clothes are fitting better and when I do measure inches are definitely dropping. I have recently added flaxseed to my yogurt daily . But the lack of bm's got pretty bad 2 weeks ago and it was literally impacted.(sorry tmi).. The few times I jumped on the scale at the gym I was still at 195ish... been that weight since week 3. I get about 32-40 oz of Water a day eat plenty of Protein but have little to no Fiber in my diet.
  23. I have not been to see my doctor or nut since my staples were removed a week after surgery. I have not weighed myself since like week 4 (now at week 8 ). I have an appointment with both my surgeon and nut next Friday. But wanted to ask is it possible that im not eating enough calories? or enough of the right things? I ditched the scale because of the dreaded 3 week stall and I don't feel or see a difference in weight at all. I aim for 80g of Protein a day and usually get between 60-80. staying under 30gm of carbs and getting right around or under 800 calories a day. Im not having bm regularly only once a week tops, and that's with help of either a softener or enema. So I guess I said all that to say this, Any suggestion would be great ....
  24. But every Aetna policy doesnt include it. Some employers exclude it. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
