Truth
Just finished day 7 of my pre-op diet, and one more week to go. 3 premier protein shakes/day and unlimited clear liquids. I'm following the diet exactly. No cheating.

Waking up after surgery
Is the anesthesia different from what they give you during the EGD? Or what they give you for oral surgery?

I'm so hungry! (pre-op diet)
My nut said that gummy multivitamins do not contain iron and that I would need to take a separate iron supplement. Apparently it is not chemically possible for gummies to contain iron. I didn't want another vitamin so I've opted for a regular chewable that has iron.

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
One week of pre-op liquid diet in the books. Not a single cheat or even a thought of cheating. Surgery is next Wednesday. It still seems so far away.

Day 7 of Pre-Op Liquids - I need a few suggestions.
I've been drinking the premier protein drinks and adding coffee to them. Of course, that won't help you if you dislike coffee. For me it's amazing. I think we may have a different pre-op diets because I'm only on protein drinks and clear liquids - no yogurts, etc. I just bought chicken broth from Costco and add seasoning to it, and it's a really nice change from eating all the sweet things like jello and Popsicles. The coffee really cuts the sweetness of the protein drinks too.

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
Uh.... why the EF am I having 2nd thoughts right now?! Haven't questioned this once until tonight. I discovered keto diet recently (I know... another diet) and I guess because it's something I haven't tried I'm somewhat entertaining the idea of giving it one last shot on my own. Before this liquid diet I really felt controlled by food. It's just interesting how much strength and mental focus comes from eliminating the comforts of food. Perhaps that's why I'm second guessing it. I feel very clear-headed and my desire to succeed in health is amplified. I honestly don't even know what I'm getting at here. I guess this is more of a ramble, and I really don't think I'll back out. It's just an interesting thought process I'm having at the moment.

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
4:30 pm on day 5 of pre-op liquid diet and I'm down 6.5 lbs. I know weight loss isn't necessarily the point of the pre-op diet, but it still feels good [emoji4]

Muscle cramping on liquid pre-op?
Anyone have that problem? Apparently my muscles have become fatigued and are cramping if I'm up and about too much.

Day 3 liquid diet and feel great
I honestly thought I was going to be miserable and wanting to chew my arm off, but I actually feel really good. I know it's only day 3, but I'm sitting here enjoying a cup of decaf cinnamon coffee with vanilla premier protein used as creamer and it's fantastic. No hunger pangs, no brain fog, no headache, nothing. T-minus 11 days!

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
Me to but I struggled. I did not take enough extras to work. Tomorrow will have broth and propel on standby. Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App I made that mistake yesterday. I brought an extra jello today, and I had 2 cups of broth instead of one. I also only got in 2 protein shakes yesterday, but got in 3 today. I'm supposed to have 4 only 12 more days!!!

I'm so hungry! (pre-op diet)
I just bought the chicken stock from Costco and added some seasoning to it. I really don't mind it and it's a nice flavor change from all of the artificially sweet things I'm consuming otherwise.

2-week liquid diet started today. So far so good.

CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
Tomorrow is my last day before my 2-week liquid diet starts on Wed. I've already cut coffee out slowly even though my nut said I didn't have to. They did say to try to stay away from caffeine for the 1st week after surgery so I didn't want to be going through caffeine AND food withdrawals at the same time [emoji15] Anyhooo, I'll be taking a before picture and weighing myself one last time before the weight loss ensues.

Raw veggies... How long after surgery?
Yeah, my nutritionist is pretty much useless other than telling me what supplements to buy and giving me a piece of paper with a list of clear liquids that I can have during my pre-op. She was actually yawning (like 5 times) during my consultation. It was very awkward. Luckily, I love my surgeon and coordinator.

Waiting... still waiting...

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App That's awesome! I was actually hoping for the July 20, but my coordinator got me pretty darn close - just a week later. My coordinator is male, young, and quite attractive Mine in July 28th. When is yours? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App 27th!

"The Natural Way"
Statistics! Look up the statistics on the percentage of people who are obese or morbidly obese that actually lose all of their excess weight the "natural" way and keep it off vs. the percentage of those who have had bariatric surgery. Bottom line, bariatric surgery wins. Facts usually shut people up.

Raw veggies... How long after surgery?
I will be starting my pre-op liquid diet on Wed. I know I will be on liquids and soft foods for quite some time from then on. I am curious how long after surgery you were cleared to eat or able to tolerate raw vegetables? I'm just not a huge fan of cooked/steamed veggies. Of course I will make it work if I have to, but would like to hear experiences. Thanks!

How long before the insurance company had your paperwork.
I'm not sure how quickly the insurance company had it in their system, but my surgery was approved in about 7 business days.

Anyone in Indiana - need a buddy.
I'm in Illinois [emoji4] During my psych visit for pre-op I was told to pick up The Emotional First Aid Kit. It's a book specifically for bariatric patients. I've seen others on here recommend it as well. Good luck!
