  1. I'm April 18th. Just got approved today!
  2. Hello everyone I've been MIA for a while. But today finally after 8 weeks of submitting my paperwork to the insurance company and being on the pre-op diet for 4 days: my surgery was approved! I'm scheduled for April 18th! So happy. Finally this is really happening! After going back and forth with my insurance company it's all good! It's like I still can't believe it! Woohoo.

  5. Hello everyone. I've been trying to get approved since January. My insurance doesn't require 6 month pre-op but they have been giving my surgeon the run around for a little over a month now since they submitted. I spoke to them today and they hope to get a final answer some time next week. If all goes well I can be going in as soon as April 18th. I'm so excited. Only nervous because I am no good at waiting for an answer so it's been driving me crazy to sit around for almost 2 months now. Crossing all of my fingers and toes! Good luck to all of you that are scheduled or in the process!!
  6. Update I received a letter today from the insurance company. Denied. They say the surgeon didn't provide proof of nutritional counseling or behavior modification consults. Which I did both. So they didn't say anything about BMI or comorbidities. Tomorrow I'm stopping by with the letter so they can appeal.

  10. Waiting on Approval but hopefully March [emoji122]????[emoji854]
  11. I agree. It does go fast. First appt for me was 12/10, sleep study 12/17. Psych eval 12/22. Saw the psych again 1/11 and nutritionist 1/17. Lab work was done 1/13. 1/22 was abdominal sonogram (checking my gallbladder) Met surgeon again 2/4 and endoscopy 2/7. Only reason my surgery would be schedule last week of March/beginning of April is because I'm traveling out of country end of Feb for 2 weeks. After I come back- hoping they approve my surgery- I do the 2 week pre op diet and then I get sleeved. I can't wait!!
  12. Thank you! Im not sure if they actually submitted Friday but the medical assistant there really likes me so I'm sure she pushed for it. Every insurance company is different. My insurance doesn't require a 6 months of nutrition visits before you can submit. Even within the same insurance there may be different requirements for different plans. My advice is to call you insurance and have them tell you what the requirements are for you particular plan. This is the only way you will get accurate information and you won't waste your time. If I had know I had to do a sonogram m, labwork and endoscopy for them to submit I would have done it before the end of last year to avoid deductibles. But oh well. I'm here now. Looking forward to hearing from my insurance company to see what there answer is. Thank you for the good vibes. Keep them coming ????
  13. I went for my first doctors appt on 12/10. Did psych eval, nutrition visit, lab work... Submitting tomorrow. BMI is 37 and I have osteoarthritis. My labs showed high cholesterol, ldl and prediabetic. We shall see. I'm hoping this happens. I'm very nervous. Hoping for late March/early April surgery date.
  14. Submitting tomorrow. My BMI went up to 37. I have high lol and high cholesterol and my a1c is in the pre diabetic range. And my long history of knee pains. Hoping to good that's enough for approval. If I do get approved we are looking for March-April surgery as I'm traveling and come back mid March. Can't wait to know what the insurance says!!
  15. I Just came from my surgeons. We are submitting tomorrow. And my upper GI I Monday. Very nervous to hear back from them about the approval. I'm traveling out of country fro 2 weeks and of Feb so my surgery won't be until March probably or even beginning of April. Fingers crossed. I want to wish all of you that have had your surgery in Jan and Feb a fabulous journey. I will stay in this group as I've been here for almost 2 months. I am really looking forward to hearing about you all and see how your are doing. I'll keep you posted on my own progress. Hoping approval goes smoothly.
  16. Oh no. At least you will be able to do it in the near future. 6 months go by very fast! My surgeon said that BCBSIL is the best insurance he has seen in terms of requirements. I know he wanted to submit this week but I'm not sure they did. So we will see how 'good' they actually are. Good luck on your journey and know we are all here to support each other! Let's do this! ????
  17. Just came back from my Nut appt. it went well. My lab results are back. I have cholesterol and hga1c slightly high. LDL is high and low vit D. Between that and my Hx of arthritis I'm hoping is enough for insurance approval. My weight keeps creeping up. It was 196 when I first went and it's 202 today. Ugh!!! Can't wait to get started on this process. They require a 2 week pre op diet. I have another appt with NUT at beginning of February and also a Endoscopy. So it's looking like it will be end of March/beginning of April for me.
  18. Yes. Every insurance is different. To prevent further confusion I recommend you call you insurance and see what their requirements as they vary so much between insurances.
  19. Omg congrats I went in for a sonogram and blood work Friday. I'm getting a letter of necessity from my PCP. Hopefully my cholesterol is up too. I remember when I did it last it was border line. I have a $300 copay too. They rep told me that for pre certification I can call the insurance once I have a date to tell them what code they are using for the sugary, how long my hospital stay will be, how's the surgeon and what hospital. I think that when its my turn (crossing my fingers as the surgeon wants to submit next week) I'll call but I'll also have the doctors office call to pre certify. And a few days before surgery I would call insurance to double check that it's all good. These days you can't always trust people do their jobs. Congratulations on your approval. I am so excited for you!!!!!!!!
  20. Hello again everyone. Saw my doc today. He said we need to do all the bloodwork to see what else besides chronic knee pains I have. Tomorrow I go for sonogram and blood. This is the one time I hope that my lipids or my blood sugar are up. Tuesday I meet the NUT and then they submit. I'm getting very very nervous here. If I don't get approved I can't afford the surgery. I'm hoping for the best!
  21. Hi I have BCBSIL. I've met the surgeon 12/10, psych eval 12/10, meet the psych again 12/21 and meeting both surg and psych tomorrow 1/14. I have a BMI of 35 and osteoarthritis - but has never visit the doctor for that with this insurance. I don't want to be rude, but I was just wondering what your BMI was before surgery and if you had co-morbilities. I called and my plan covers the surgery so I'm happy about that but I am extremely nervous about being approved.
  22. Hi I have BCBSIL too. I have BMI 35. Did my psych eval and I'm good for that. I have met the Nut yet. I have osteoarthritis and gerd but haven't for official diagnosis for that with the insurance. Did you get approve for surgery? Did you have any comorbidities? I meet my surgeon and the psych tomorrow to see what we can do to get approval. I'm so nervous.
  23. Thank you so much! That's my biggest fear. I have an appointment next week and we shall see what they the surgeons team tell me. I really appreciate your response. More than you know. The insurance didn't say how long you would have to wait before it's a 'fail of treatment'?
  24. Hi I'm also a newby. I'm seeing the surgeon to get the process going. Did the psych eval and met with the psychologist a couple of times. Waiting to see the surg on the 7th to see how we can get my insurance to approve. My BMI is 35 and I have the requirements but we need letters from my physician etc so I'm very very nervous. I really want this and I'm ready for it I just need approval. I'm not scared of the surgery or the new habits that I'll have to have. I'm actually looking fwd to not eating the way I eat. Not been able to eat a lot. Feeling full with very little. Let's see what happens. Good luck on your appt and keep us posted! ????????????
  25. Hello everyone I started the process a month ago when I met with the surgeon. I had a psych eval and I'm good for that. My BMI is 35 and I have osteoarthritis (undiagnosed). As far as I know I don't have diabetes and don't have high blood pressure. Did the sleep study and no sleep apnea. I technically qualify because of the osteoarthritis but I'm very nervous that my insurance won't cover for the surgery. Anyone here has had 'low BMI' and gotten approved? I have blue cross blue shield of Illinois. Meeting with my surgeon again to see what the next step will be.
