    December 28th here I come!

I am remarkably calm. I have to leave at 4:30am for the hospital so I am in bed and going to try to get some sleep. 12 hours from now, it'll be over and I'll be on the loser's bench!

    December 28th here I come!

I am also on the 28th! Started my 7-day clear liquids/protein shake diet today. Can't wait to join the losers' bench!

    Surgery Dec 1st

My surgery was cancelled at the VERY last minute (I was ready to be wheeled to the OR) because I developed a cough/cold yesterday. I've been rescheduled for Dec. 28th.

    Any December Sleever's?

So, as the anesthesiologist was leaving and they were ready to take me to the OR, the surgeon came in and cancelled my surgery. He wasn't comfortable with my newly developed cough/cold. I know he felt badly about it (as tears rolled down my cheeks) and he promised he would get me back in by month's end. His PA just called to tell me he opened 12/28 to do my VSG. Thanksgiving AND Christmas on the liquid pre-op diet - ugh. But as he told me, I'll have many more Thanksgivings and Christmases to enjoy in good health. I know God is in control so I'm okay.
  5. I woke up coughing and congested. After all of this, I'll be crushed if they push my surgery back! I also don't want to take any risks so I'll call my surgeon's office when they open. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Any December Sleever's?

Dec 1st for me! I'm on day 5 of the pre-op diet. Nothing but clear liquids tomorrow and Monday.

    Surgery Dec 1st

I'm getting sleeved on the 1st also. I am nervous but excited! We are very similar - I'm 43 years old and 245 pounds. We can do this! Just think - 3 days from this moment, it will be over and our new life begins...
  8. Today is the first day of my pre-op diet and my surgery is one week from today. All of a sudden, I am nervous! I've been looking forward to this for 6 months and yet I can't shake my nerves. I am not questioning my decision. I know that this is the best thing for me and that it's the right thing to do. Did anyone else have this happen to them before their surgery?
  9. My surgeon is also Dr. Eid. I really like him but I love Chloe and the dietitians! Good luck!
  10. Yes! I'm having my surgery next week at West Penn. How about you?
  11. @@tera1982 and @@Half of Bri - I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one to think like that. I keep thinking that the risks are low, but SOMEONE has to be in that percentage! How do I know it won't be me? I am doing this so that my kids have me around for a long time. It would really stink if this surgery was the thing to take me from them. But then I remind myself that I am fully trusting God to see me through and He is in control. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. Thanks for sharing everyone! I feel much better now.

    Anyone else nervous?

My surgery is one week from today and the nerves have kicked in big time! But we can do this!!! I just keep reminding myself that one year from now, the holidays will be even more joyous because I will be much healthier. Wishing you all the best!
  13. I start my liquid diet on Tuesday so I will be heading out to go shopping this weekend to stock up. My surgeon wants me to drink 3-4 Protein shakes per day with unlimited Clear liquids. Can anyone who's already been there or is going through it now give me any tips? Now that it's getting so close, I'm both excited and nervous but mostly I feel overwhelmed.
  14. I lost 13 pounds but they didn't want me to lose too much because I was only at a 41 BMI (with co-morbidities) to begin with.
  15. Thanks! They gave me a long list of Protein supplements and told me to stay away from the Special K Protein Drink because it doesn't have enough protein in it. The dietitian suggested Muscle Milk Light if I want bottled drinks to grab and go. I need to start getting serious about this now...the 6 months of waiting for approval made it seem like I had all the time in the world to get it together. Now that my surgery is in 11 days, it seems very surreal.
  16. My husband does not have many vacation days left and I don't want him to waste one to sit in the hospital while I'm in surgery. I'd prefer to have him there when I come home. He's not happy about it, but so far he's going along with it. My plan was to drive myself to the hospital and have him come down after work. Does this make sense? Or is it a bad idea?

Driving myself to the hospital...bad idea?

Thanks everyone! My husband will come down after work and he'll drive me home when I am discharged.

I'm with you on December 1st! It's getting really real now...

    Pre-op Dieters, check in!

My surgery is scheduled for December 1 and I see my surgeon this afternoon for my pre-op visit. I'm excited and scared to death at the same time! Not sure when to expect my pre-op diet to begin as I am already within 2 weeks of my surgery date. I'm so glad I found this forum today! It's just what I needed. There doesn't seem to be any support groups for me to attend so finding this online community will be very helpful.
