New here...Meeting with Psych Dr.....nervous
He asked me how the extra weight stopped me from doing certain things. What other weight loss programs I have tried. How long I've been over weight. How was my life as a child, how is the relationship with my parents, spouse, children. I was completely honest about all of it and he approved me. It was more laid back than I thought it was going to be.

My journey has begun..
Thank you! I keep imagining next summer and all the things I will be able to do . That keeps me going. My Nut. Is very sweet but I don't see her again till November for my pre op discussion. The program I am in has monthly meetings so the surgeon and staff seems to be in constant contact with me which is nice

New here...Meeting with Psych Dr.....nervous
Hoping your appointment went good. Mine was a breeze, no lengthy form to fill out. He sat across from me and we talked for 30 minutes about my life. I got emotional a couple of times but he reassured me that this is the right step and cleared me for surgery

My journey has begun..
Hi! My name is Cindy. I'm a Maryland girl I'm 42, Wife of Dan (21 years) mom to Alex (she's 19) and Wyatt (he's 17). I have been over weight for 23 years and I finally feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am 5'2" (on a good day) and 215 lbs. I feel that my surgery is a shameful topic that no one wants to talk about. As if wanting to get healthy with help is a bad thing. I have a slew of medical issues that makes it hard to lose weight. Not just an excuse I use..I've tried many times. I can't use diet pills because of high blood pressure, so when I came to the conclusion that this is the route I wanted to take I have been met with resistance. My husband sees as the easy way out...far from the easy way out. He has come around but I wish he wasn't so closed minded ????. My daughter went with me to the seminar and she understands what I am going to go through. I'm beginning month 3 of the 6. Looking at January for the surgery.

Worst things people have said to you or behind your back regarding surgery
We have a few people that we know that have had a wls and have gained all their weight plus back. So in my husbands eyes "it just didn't work". I tried to tell him that everyone has the surgery to lose weight but some do see it as a fix all and they don't want to change their life style. He had used the phrase "the easy way out". How is having major surgery the easy way out? I brought my 19 year old daughter with me to the seminar. The surgeon and nurses explained everything and opened her eyes to what it really is. A tool to aide me in losing the weight. I know what is being asked of me. I have to do the work because if I don't...I'll find myself in this shape again..and hear that "I told you so"

Cheated on liquid diet
How much have you lost during the 6 months prior? I know the reason for the 2 week liquid diet is to reduce the fat on the liver but if you've lost a good bit during the 6 months the chicken wings won't matter but if you haven't, try to keep strong here on out. I'm sure you don't want to get to the "day" and then not be able to go through with it.

Weight Loss Before Surgery and Insurance Coverage
The program that I am in has classes that cover post surgery but every program is different.
-
Insurance coverage
It really depends on the hospital and Surgeons requirements, if your insurance doesn't have stipulations. My dr requires a 6 month weight loss program. NUT visits, Monthly classes and weigh ins, psych evaluation, and tests. Whether your insurance requires it or not.

Weight Loss Before Surgery and Insurance Coverage
I was told the same thing. My BMI is 39.5 with several medical conditions. I was worried about the 40+ BMI and losing weight before surgery. They go by the first initial weight during your apt with the surgeon.

December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
I'm thinking January for mine..earliest I can have it is December. My insurance resets December 1 so that won't factor. I just don't want to be recovering at Christmas. I'm in Maryland (not too far from Jersey) I'm meeting the NUT tomorrow, the upper GI Friday and psych evaluation is next Monday. August is month 3 for me my biggest fear is the insurance denying me.
