  1. I enjoy a couple of glasses of white wine once a week now that I'm about 100 days post-op. It's really quite enjoyable. I do drink slower and try to savor the drinks. But it's nice to indulge every once in a while. There's been pressing no medical concerns as a result of occasional session of moderate drinking. Bottom line, enjoy your drinks, but do remember moderation.

  4. First couple weeks post-op, I couldn't eat scrambled eggs at all. I would become naseous. I was heartbroken. I thought I may have lost them forever. But I'm about 10 weeks out now, and I'm able to eat them again. I don't choose them as often as before, but every once in a while I can enjoy a full scrambled egg.
  5. Always exercise if you can. You don't have to go hard every single day. But I do try to do something every single day. Even during the pre-op liquid diet, I always tried to get at least some light cardio work done. If you already exercise regularly, it should be a breeze. Good luck!
  6. Don't worry about losing too much weight pre-op on account of insurance. In fact, the more weight you lose pre-op, the better your chances are of getting approved. Insurance companies like to bet on sure things. A candidate that has shown they're able to lose weight pre-op is someone they consider a good bet to have a successful surgery.
  7. A shot is probably not a great idea. Alcohol will affect us more quickly and more decisively than ever before. I'm 5 weeks post op. I probably still won't drink for a while. But if I had to have hard liquor I'd try something I could sip. Something to savor over a little while.
  8. Chewable multi-Vitamins make me nauseous. I think there's something in them that my body thinks is toxic, so it wants to reject them. I'm going to try to switch to a tablet or pill. The calcium citrate and the B12 don't make me feel sick, just the multis.
  9. Nice work Shan5311! Under 200 is a good place to be. I lost my first 100 as of today. I hope I get where you are eventually.
  10. I consider myself very lucky. My recovery went really well. I have an office job. Two weeks was plenty for me. Some people need longer. It really depends on how each person heals and recovers from a major surgery.
  11. To post pics on your profile on this forum, I've found it's way easier to do on a computer. I haven't had a lot of success doing it from a phone or tablet. There's a whole area under your profile settings when you view this site on a computer browser.
  12. I've been having a couple tablespoons of creamy peanut butter. About 8 grams of protein.
  13. Great work man! If you can figure out the weight, which you did in a big way, you can figure out everything else I'm sure.
  14. The quick weight loss actually started for me during the two week liquid diet before surgery. Then after surgery, during the all-liquid phase, the weight loss was also quick. That's where I am now. Losing 7-10 pounds a week seems about right, mostlly because your calorie conumption is lower than you're used to. I was also very cranky, and very hungry during the liquid phases. Very bored with what I was eating, because there was no variety. But, the weight needs to come off, so the work and inconvenience needs to be endured. It's like a rite of passage. There's a tradeoff. But, the weight does come off. And health should improve as a result. Good luck!
  15. Two weeks off work was plenty for me after surgery. Some people have said they've taken as many as six weeks. I live alone, and had no trouble after getting home, although it might be nice to have someone around those first couple of days. The incision pain was a little rough at first, but it does get better everyday. It was mostly gone a week later, and then I was back up and around the second week post-op.
  16. I try to walk every day, sometimes as little as 15 minutes, down the block or on the treadmill. But I do try to do something to keep moving everyday, for at least 30 minutes. The little bits of daily activity do pay off, and then you'll be able to do a lot more as time goes on. It was important for me to start slow, and just do a little bit at a time at first, but always do something. I would sometimes go to the gym, ride the recumbent bike for 20 minutes, get a little sweat going and then just go home. But at least I did something. A little something everyday will pay dividends in the long term.
  17. I went with almond milk during liquid pre-op for my shakes because I found out I had a lactose sensitivity to regular milk. For me, that lactose sensitivity was the main reason I went with almond milk. I should have considered Lactaid too, mostly because it has more Protein than than almond milk.
  18. Congratulatios Tiana! You're doing great!
  19. Congrats on your progress so far! You're doing awesome.
  20. Thanks everybody! I appreaciate you sharing what your experience was. This is all new to me and it's good to be able to set expectations for myself.
  21. I'm planning on being away from work for two weeks to recover from RNY. I was wondering how much time other people took off from work to recover their their surgeries.
  22. I was told to try putting the fork down after every bite. Then chew, chew, chew. And then pick the fork back up after swallowing.
  23. Thanks everybody! This is great to know.
  24. ...although, I've heard from a few people that had had RNY, that they never experienced full dumping syndrom, They did say there were milder side effects after eating, like discomfurt, abdominal pain, and maybe a little vomitting. I also realize everybody is different, but I was hoping to get a sense for what types of food that you used to love just aren't working out for you right no. And also, what foods that you loved before, are you able to enjoy again, but are surprised they didn't give you any problems.
  25. Glad I found you. It's nice to be here! I'm having gastric bypass surgery on July 13. I wanted to know how everyone's experience has been going. Lots of helpful information to be found here. My peak weight was 338 in April 2014. I started my 6-month PCP supervised diet in December 2014, when I weighed 326. At the end of the diet in June 2015, I weighed 265, so I've lost around 70 since my peak. I'm halfway through the 2-week liquid diet, and it's as miserable as everyone says it is, so I'm glad that we're all in agreement on that. The first two days were the worst, and I almost quit. I didn't quit, and now the diet sucks less. Still not great, but the Bariatric Advantage shakes seem to do the trick. Also I get one BA bar per day, and all the sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicles I can stand. Yay jello! Thanks! Good luck to you all!
